It's a nice Hero Quest type time waster like the first game but with improved graphics. You start out with a hero and then could recruit others to come with you to complete map after map until eventually you get to the end. Each map is a small dungeon maze with rooms and corridors and everything is turn based including movement just like a board game. They got rid of the annoying random event thing from the first game that would just pop up all of a sudden and do something (usually bad) to your character or party. This time they have stationary random skulls that you touch and something good may happen, most often times nothing will happen. The game requires you to have a balanced party with a tank, a wizard and possibly a healer but you can experiment....the game is difficult though and grinding is a chore or even more difficult unless you go online and play custom maps. You can also buy new equipment in the town and get some other bonuses to help out. It'll take you a little while to get through all the maps to reach the end as mentioned because of the difficulty and slow nature of the game. Haven't played the sequels yet to see what they improved on so I'm not sure if I can recommend this or not but I'll give it a thumbs up. There's no keyboard support with very few keys defined by the dev (maybe a total of 3 or 4). Everything is a mouse click and everything is drag and drop so it can get somewhat annoying.
Awful UI, slow and plodding mechanics that could be easily fixed. Terrible progression and aggravating to play. It had potential but it falls over at the play-ability almost immediately.
Fun game - basically heroquest in computer form - did enjoy.
Decent Heroquest-ish fun to keep you occupied for about 8 hours that you can pick up for very cheap, nothing amazing though.
Fixes a lot of the problems that the first one had, is far more interesting but it added a lot of new problems. This is still a DO NOT BUY for me and I would hope the next one is better.
Being a huge enthusiast of board game dungeon crawlers like Talisman, HeroQuest and such I tried looking for similar games on Steam and came up with the Dark Quest series. Given it was already on sale, I decided to give Dark Quest 2 a go. It's a nice little HeroQuest clone that is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. You start out with a single hero and then on subsequent runs you recruit other characters to come with you to complete a campaign comprising of a couple dozen maps until you eventually get to the end. Each map is a small dungeon maze with rooms and corridors and everything is turn based including movement just like a board game. There aren't too many stats to worry about, nor any of the more advanced systems of modern RPGs. Everything here is kept as simple as possible, in the spirit of board games of the olden age. This is a game which evokes memories of simpler times, doesn't take hours to play and is very easy to master. The gameplay boils down to clearing a dungeon, defeating the enemies and grabbing all the loot you can find. There is a moderate difficulty to each dungeon, but you may grind them as many times as you want by replaying the same map over and over with a slight incline in enemy difficulty on each subsequent pass. However, ballancing out your party lets you explore new possibilities and cover the skills required to beat each level. Following each level, you go back to town, where you can buy better equipment, acquire new skills and get some other bonuses to help out. There are many maps in the campaign with many more available in the Steam Workshop if you're up for a challenge. It will take a little while to get through all of the maps to reach the end because of the slow nature of the game. That being said, the game brings back nostalgic memories of playing D&D board games from my childhood and as such is a great way to burn some time with when one wishes to unwind after a long day. I'm pretty sure I'll be spending more time with this title and recommend it to anyone who's into fantasy themed tactical gameplay and/or looking for an equivalent to playing a board game dungeon crawler on their PC.
Gioco godibilissimo e molto divertente! Ci vuole preparazione e strategia per progredire e completare i dungeons. Niente di impossibile però bisogna impegnarsi! Durata circa 20 ore. Lo straconsiglio!!
As a Kid I loved Heroquest on amiga, this is so far the closest I´v come to that feeling :)
7.5 / 10 On a whim tonight I typed Heroquest into steam and it came back with these Dark Quest Games. "What the heck do we have here?" I asked aloud (and somewhat suprised I had never heard of these)... Being a huge fan of heroquest as a boy (MANY MANY moons ago) I read the users comments and decided to give Dark Quest 2 a go. It also didn't hurt that it cost me less than $5. I just played for an hour and what I experienced, I liked a lot. This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. This is a game that reminds me of simpler times, doesn't take hours to master or play through in one sitting, and brings back some nostalgic vibes of my childhood! Bravo! I am looking forward to beating this!
