If you like the Jonathan Boakes style of point-&-click supernatural stories, then you'll enjoy this.
Game-breaking bug, or dead-end, not sure which... 6 of 5 must play. 5 of 5 great story great game-play. 4 of 5 great story average game-play. 3 of 5 average story average game-play. 2 of 5 play only if it's your favourite genre. 1 of 5 play if you have nothing better to do. 0 of 5 play if you're a masochist. -1 of 5 avoid. Dark Fall Lost Souls score is -1 of 5.
I could put up with the game being slow and clunky, but the door combination puzzle decided to glitch (supposed to be a known issue) and made me just give up. Shame, as the atmosphere, etc, is done quite well.

Mixed reviews !?! Who do I need to beat up?? I love the Dark Fall series and this is my favorite out of them all! Great atmosphere and truly unsettling in several parts. Loved the story as well- it’s the perfect game to play on a fall evening. Exploring the station and hotel at different points in time was absolutely brilliant! I love the concept, and it was so well executed in this game. Definitely adding it to my fall replay queue. I hope Ghost Vigil wasn’t the last entry (though it was absolutely fantastic too). I remember seeing concept stills for a Dark Fall game set on a carnival pier many moons ago… That’d be RIGHT up my alley! :D Anyways- great game, great developers- if you like spooky point and clicks BUY IT AND PLAY IT!
Me encantó. Ahora toca jugar Dark Fall: Ghost Vigil. Vamos a ver qué tal está.
I beat this game after YEARS of it sitting in my steam library. I got it through one of the gaming bundles; it wasn't one that I wanted though I figured I would play it when things were slow. And my thoughts are mixed on it. First and foremost, I'm not an adventure gamer. This genre makes no sense to me. So I had a walkthrough open as I played the game to save myself some grief. The good parts: this game has a great sense of atmosphere. It's dark, grimy, spooky sounds all around. It sets the tone for a fun ghost story. I'm probably missing a lot since I've not played the other games, though that's on my wish list (thanks to Grimbeard). Essentially, you play as the Inspector who's looking for a little girl who went missing years ago. It's interesting. Especially when the other ghosts come into play. However, not having played the other games leaves me with a lot of questions about the plot. The down part: this is a point adventure game done in the style of Myst. The puzzles aren't as obtuse, though I'm glad I had the walkthrough or I would have been playing for hours feeling frustrated. The Bones puzzle, finding the hole in the wall, and the first lockpick puzzle really threw me for a loop. The Bones puzzle was easy after I heard the audio a few times (plus reading the walkthrough). The lock-picking is a little weird. You have to click around it in the right spots. And if you click the right spots in the correct order, it'll make a little jingle to tell you have made the correct choice. The walkthrough had one of the spots a little bit off to the side, which was throwing me off until I figured out the audio clue. Some parts that make up the solution to the puzzles are well hidden. The constellation puzzle comes quickly to mind. And thank goodness someone posted pictures of the correct ones! I could see this game getting a resurgence in popularity due to the intuitive controls and the HOG community finding it. Lost Souls is no where near a fast of a play as a HOG. It is a slow burn from start to finish. With that in mind: I'm mixed about the game. It's a fun spooky campfire tale. It's a slow burn (both good and bad). And it is somewhat enjoyable on its own. But the solutions are nowhere near as intuitive to be solved on their own without a lot of trial and error. If you can get it on the cheap, that's a decent reason to try it out. Otherwise, it is skipable.
my computer has all the right requirements and then some and i could never play it. the cursor never came back after the first scene, no keys do anything. this is lost money ...
