I love the idea and the execution, it's unusual and interesting. The game doesn't exactly tell you what's happening at the beginning, allowing you to figure it out yourself. When you finally get a grasp of the plot, all the pieces fall into place, giving you an unexpected "aha" moment. Without spoiling too much, the events could technically happen to anyone you know which is pretty scary.
Great concept over all - game runs extremely poorly with a lot of glitches and bugs ruining the experience. I encountered a softlock late in the last chapter and all I could do was to restart the entire chapter all over again; I'm sorry but at that point I would rather have a refund. The potential is there, though, don't get me wrong!
Horror anthologies are a very popular genre. Stories Untold puts together a tale that would be gripping on it's own; then adds an interactive element that allows the fans to become the protaganist and enjoy experiencing the story even more. While the narrative could have been a bit longer, or maybe add another story to the anthology, Stories Untold ranks on the same level as best selling horror. Rated 8 out of 10.
Don't drink and drive simulator? weird trash game.
1st chapter? Good text adventure with weird stuff going on. 2nd one? Now we are talking. Now where is Mulder from X-files. This is great stuff. I love the machine operating sequences. But then comes chapter 3. I got eye damage and the game forces you to try to read from a old microfilm reader machine instructions. I am old enough to have actually used these devices in the 90's and i dont recall my eyes hurting like mad trying to read, zoom and sharpen the image to the current zoom level. My eyes strained so hard it's unreal. And for what? So that you can do morse code, interpet instructions told sometimes in deliberately bad english and set radio frequencies. This one falls apart in my opinion. The further you get the worse it is. Ends in a interesting setting but then comes chapter 4 that is just a disaster from start to finish. I got nothing good to say so i'll speak of the worst part: Again messing with that light or lack of it. To me hunting items in pitch black rooms in a game where you cannot set video settings/brightness is something that is just no-no. And who thought it was a great idea to make the cursor disappear / barely visible? Barely finished this one in the end and noted instantly it was not worth it at all. I guess it's lucky it's short and cheap. I would have shelved this one quick if it was a larger game. So a narrow negative it is. Some good parts but the negatives override them. 4.5/10
Absolutely not my cup of tea. You cannot skip or fasten text-animations of things you have read before. For instance: You leave a location and the same text is being presented via slow typing-animation. This makes this trial and error game a repeating and boring chore to me. Also: It runs horrible on my Intel UHD 620 (core i5) while it is a TEXT adventure with some effects on a still image. (12 fps in lowest settings at 1280x800 pixels) Other than that: The atmosphere and sounds make a really good impression but that 1h of diving into was enough for me. Verdict: Unnecessary tedious
absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. text parser is completely worthless, writing is poor at best, visuals are painful to the eyes, and actually getting anything to behave how it's supposed to it quite challenging. a game that dares to ask: "what if we made everything bad, on purpose." a testament to the inability of the british to produce anything of value (except for trip-hop (electronic music is my heart, after all))
Gutes & Schlechtes:
Very cool, creepy, short retro-interactive stories here. Each episode is the perfect length, and complements Observation nicely if you've had a chance to play through that game first; although not mandatory. 4/5 tapes.
