this game is so addictive , i dont know what they put in it
Story and Mystery — 9/10 Danganronpa has a simple, easy-to-understand setup that immediately gives you a reason to keep playing. The mystery surrounding the school, Monokuma and the outside world develops gradually and remains engaging throughout. Some twists are predictable, while others are genuinely surprising. The final chapter is heavy on exposition and feels slightly rushed compared with the slower buildup. Characters — 9/10 The characters are one of the game’s greatest strengths. Their exaggerated personalities and Ultimate talents make the cast memorable, while Free Time Events add depth to characters who initially seem like stereotypes. Some characters mainly exist for comedy or conflict, and certain jokes become repetitive. However, the friendships, arguments and growing suspicion between the students make the group dynamic extremely effective. Class Trials — 8/10 Class Trials require you to identify contradictions and use collected evidence to reconstruct each murder. They become increasingly complex and are easily the highlight of the game. Some answers are obvious long before the game allows you to present them, while certain clues require an unnecessarily specific interpretation. Despite this, the trials remain tense, satisfying and visually energetic. Investigations and Daily Life — 8/10 Daily Life sections allow you to explore the school, build relationships and spend time with the cast between murders. Investigations are straightforward, with the game ensuring that required evidence cannot be missed. This prevents players from becoming stuck, but also makes investigations feel overly guided. New areas unlock after each chapter, helping the school remain interesting. Minigames and Controls — 7/10 Nonstop Debates work extremely well, making the process of finding and shooting contradictions simple but satisfying. The other minigames are less consistent. Hangman’s Gambit can be unclear, Bullet Time Battle becomes repetitive, and Closing Arguments occasionally use confusing panels. They do not ruin the trials, but some feel included simply to add more gameplay. The PC controls work well enough, although some sections feel better suited to a controller. Visual Style and Presentation — 9/10 Danganronpa’s colourful characters, unsettling environments and mixture of 2D artwork with 3D spaces give it a distinctive identity. Class Trials use rapid movement and exaggerated effects to keep long conversations energetic. The executions are creative, disturbing and darkly comedic, although their exaggerated presentation can sometimes weaken their emotional impact. Music and Voice Acting — 10/10 The soundtrack shifts perfectly between comedy, mystery, tension and despair. The investigation and trial themes are especially memorable and make important scenes far more intense. Both the English and Japanese voice acting are strong, although normal dialogue is only partially voiced. Monokuma’s delivery perfectly captures his combination of humour, cruelty and unpredictability. Tone and Writing — 8/10 The game constantly shifts between murder, emotional moments and absurd comedy. This unusual balance gives Danganronpa its identity, although some jokes appear at inappropriate times and weaken serious scenes. The writing also repeats clues and motivations after they are already clear. Characters occasionally make obviously poor decisions to move the plot forward, but the story remains entertaining enough to maintain its momentum. Replayability and Extra Content — 5/10 Replaying the main story is less exciting once you know every murder, culprit and twist. School Mode allows you to spend more time with the cast and complete missed Free Time Events, but its resource management and repeated routines quickly become repetitive. Most replay value comes from collecting items, improving trial scores and completing report cards rather than experiencing new story content. Steam 100% Completion — 8/10 Most achievements are straightforward, but earning 100% requires completing every report card, collecting Monocoins, purchasing gallery items and spending considerable time in School Mode. The main story achievements cannot be missed, making a blind first playthrough completely safe. Chapters can also be replayed for cleanup without restarting the game. The completion is not especially difficult, but the grinding and repeated dialogue require patience. Overall — 8/10 Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is an entertaining visual novel with a memorable cast, engaging murder mysteries and energetic Class Trials. Its investigations can feel overly guided, several minigames are awkward and the writing occasionally repeats itself. However, its characters, soundtrack and constant mystery make it difficult to stop playing once the killing game begins. It may not have the most complex cases or polished gameplay in the series, but it remains a strong and memorable introduction to Danganronpa.
