♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome, very mmmmmm but that`s how life work lol ♥♥♥♥
the game has one goal, speed, and it does it well while a little rocky to get into at the start, i started to really get a feel for how it works and can now run under 12 minutes the mechanic of jumping to stab your daemon enemies feels good but i've found i have some difficulty getting it to activate at some angles and in some places, particularly with low ceilings, but besides that it all feels good once you get a handle on it if you want speed, this a fine little gem, if you're wanting a full length quake experience, maybe stick to that
"You run at high speed and attack enemies." - this sentence is a perfect description of the game. The game design is odd and frankly interesting, it serves as a nice break from the traditional retro FPS games you have nowadays, to something more unique. The main mechanics are 2 - holding w accelerates you to insane speeds, but fast turning will slow you down, and the speed you get amplifies the damage you do. You deal damage by jumping while holding the sword, and the jumping timing matters. You might not hit the enemy or all the enemies you want (you can attack multiple enemies in a single jump) if you jump too early, and also you might literally go flying, by jumping off an enemy head instead, if you are too late. Also the level design works well with the mechanics, by giving you a lot of loops to circle in and gain speed for your attacks. Essentially it plays out as a joust. The main thing you wish to avoid it getting stuck in some corner or dead end, and getting overrun by enemies. You barely deal damage, if you even do, when you have no speed, so that is essentially a lose condition, though with enough health you can escape, but it will cost you a lot. You also have "special attacks", that uses charges or ammo that you collect from enemies. The sword special attack is extremely slow - mainly used for a last resort. On the bright side it can kill a lot of enemies in a single hit. You also get a lot of charges for the sword attack. The shotgun is way faster as it have no start up, and the reload is relatively fast. You can instantly cancel the reload, by switching to the sword, but that would cost you a sword charge, which could make them useful for something other than last resort. By canceling the shotgun you can basically turn it into a machinegun shotgun, but you won't really have that much ammo for it - it is something you will use much more rarely for some more dangerous enemies. The game have no music, but it does have very good sound design. Running around, jumping, attacking and shooting is quite more enjoyable because of the sound. The main issue is that the game is really short, I beat it in half and hour, but I've seen people need up to 2 hours and maybe someone might need a bit more. That is understandable since this is a game made by a single developer and somewhat experimental one as well. Up to you if you believe it is worth it for its cost. The only replayability I see for the game is speedrunning.
The mechanics and visuals are a really interesting spin on retro fps tropes, but the game is pretty short. It's only about 6 or 7 levels, each of which can be completed in less than one minute with enough practice. I'd love to see some sort of level editor or mod tool for this game, because I can't help but to want more of this. Very fun yet short experience, is definitely worth a few bucks.
A strange, unique game that plays like the mishappen lovechild of Quake, the medieval practice of jousting and Sonic the Hedgehog. The rather minimal story concerns an astronaut who manages to crash his spaceship on a planet crawling with hostile entities who inexplicably look like medieval knights. Our hero grabs a rusty sword and, having apparently never seen such a weapon before, decides to hold it out in front of him and charge into battle, impaling his enemies by running into them at full speed. The levels are set up to allow this, mainly consisting of large circular pathways with plenty of room to build up a decent speed. It's pretty fun, on top of being filled with a heavy, vaguely oppressive atmosphere, with no music whatsoever and level architecture that recalls the grand gothic halls of Quake, filled with dense rusted metal corridors and bottomless pits. There's a surprising amount of skill involved as well, since keeping up momentum requires a good amount of timing and precision, especially later on, when the game really starts to crank up the number and density of its enemies. But it's at about that time that you'll come into contact with Daemonic Runner's fatal flaw, which is that it simply ends far too quickly. The storepage talks about 1~2 hours of playtime, but that's probably pushing it, since a singular playthrough is unlikely to take more than ~45 minutes. And while there is some level of replayability due to randomized enemy placement, the overall amount of content is still nowhere near satisfactory, especially given the game's pricepoint. At least this means that you can run the whole thing through once or twice without leaving the refund window, so maybe give it a shot if the base idea appeals to you.
pure fun
The game is ok. It has a mixed feeling of Sonic with gameplay of classic Thief games. Although it was meant to be like Quake. This game is short, all you have to do is run and jump attack enemies with sword. You also get a shotgun which isnt helping much comparing to a sword where it gets stronger as you run faster. It can be difficult though. Aside from that, gameplay is decent for me.
Amazing gameplay, feels great to run very fast and impale enemies on your sword. Only about an hour long, too short to buy at full price. Some things are trash: FPS is capped at 60, FOV is capped at 69 (haha funny joke dev). How to modify FOV: 1) open file at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Daemonic Runner\core\ed_ini.txt 2) find the 11th line (#10#128,...) 3) change the number after "128," to a big number (my line looks like this: #10#128,110) 4) save & exit FPS is unfixable due to game physics being tied to it.
Well, I really like the concept and the graphics but the execution is a bit off. No music, movement's a bit wack, some things have weird collisions, story is non-existent and also is quite hard at certain places, especially if you try to clear each stage, but that might be a feature depending on who you ask. Overall, as the current WR holder, I'd recommend it, especially on a sale. (even though I got stuck at the tutorial and had to find a walkthrough, yes I'm that guy).
