Cyanide & Happiness - Freakpocalypse (Episode 1) is the first, last, and only episode of a 2D retro point and click adventure game kickstarted from the Cyanide & Happiness web comic franchise. This gets 10/10 for carrying the Cyanide & Happiness brand, look and feel, as you help out a mercilessly unfortunate schoolkid named Coop through a series of nearly surreal comedy situations. Yes, it does carry some Monkey Island vibes, and that's a good thing too. One of the things that most people probably didn't notice is just how much effort went into making almost everything in the game something you can look at/talk-to/touch, with voice acted lines for dozens of things in each of the dozens of rooms in the game. That's really exceptional. The characters are all fun and interesting, you'd have to be a bit of a jerk if you don't feel sorry for Coop. There's good storytelling here. The presentation unfortunately is about the same as a mobile app, and we're here on PC. In terms of technicals, while this looks ok for a 2D game... this might as well be an iPad game. But the killer, and this is where I think it's a crying shame, is this is a very short adventure, less than 2 hours (you could probably speedrun less than 1 hour). And of course being an entry in a dead genre, this didn't get enough momentum or critical reception for the Explosm guys to go ahead and make a Chapter 2. This is priced kinda crazy high for what might as well be a mobile or a browser game, and while I liked the content, I can't think of a lot of PC gamers I'd recommend this to, especially at the rather optimistic price for a 4 year old 2D point and clicker. As usual, Valve doesn't give us a "Maybe" option in reviews (because a million reviews that all say "Maybe" don't tell gamers anything). If they did, that's what I'd give this. But they don't, so I can't.
Episode 2 will be released when dinosaurs come back to life, for your information.
I got this game when it released back in 2021 and ever since then I have been waiting for episode two. The game itself was good, entertaining, and had potential but sadly episode two never came. As you can maybe imagine that was a total bummer. People who bought this game was promised a full series but instead got scammed with only one episode and nothing else except for a few insignificant updates. So is this game worth buying? NO!!! Not at all. It has been a little over 4 years since the game came out and there is still no significant progress or updates for any of the other episodes of this game. Honestly I completely regret buying this game. Both my money and the potential of this game was wasted.
Dead game, no update in over a year and on the discord keep stating an update is coming starting to sound like George R. R. Martin
Okay, I didn't want to have to do this but I've lost my patience not only waiting for episode 2 but with experiencing episode 1. This has to be one of the worst examples of a point and click game I've ever seen. FIrst off, it's irritating how for whatever reason, everyone in the whole school either tolerates Goob or hates his guts for no reason. I know it supposed to be satirical but this is too much, it may work in a short Cyanide & Happiness short, it doesn't work in a full game. It just gives me the thought "Am I going to be insulted this whole playthrough just for playing this game?". The other problem is the fact you can look, tough and talk to everything, even inanimate objects. It was funny at first, but after a while it gets annoyingly repetitive and the jokes never stick. And the worst part is, the game EXPECTS you to interact with everything as Goob never shuts up about having the urge to look, touch and talk to everything and everyone. I'm 14 hours in and I still haven't managed to get past the school part because I did what the game wanted. And finally, the cameos. I get it that it supposed to link this game to the show but it doesn't feel natural. All the cameos of different characters from the show just feels like they were just slapped in there without a care in the world. It doesn't feel like you're in the world of Cyanide & Happiness. The voice acting is fine. But why does the speaking character's icon next to the dialogue box have to move their lips. They never sync up so why do their mouths move? You just need to tell us who is talking, that's it! Okay, now the elephant in the room; episode 2. Episode 1 came out in March 2021, it is now April 2026 and we've been given NO updates. Complete radio silent. Oh, except for that one post made to remind that episode 2 is still in development... that was last year. And given the state Episode 1 is and I haven't seen any acknowledgement of any feedback, I'm really afraid these problems are doomed to repeat themselves. Explosm and whoever new dev is working on the next episode; do better.
被遗忘库中的游戏,直到现在还不更新,圈钱跑路了,我有三个字要说你知道是什么
saddd no episode 2
shame no full episode. Project would have been fine if nothing happened....but with these indie games and the indie animation. Things wont go as planned.
I remember being pretty excited for this game when it was released because I loved C&H. I didn't realize it was going to be episodic when I bought it, so after thoroughly enjoying the first act, I was a bit let down to find out that I'd have to wait on another part. I loved the game enough that I thought it was worth the wait, and I'm still waiting 4 years later! Thankfully there's been updates from the team so hopefully we'll see the second part sooner rather than later.
I love cyanide and happiness but this was a miss for me. the jokes were bleh I should've listened to the other reviews. i tried to play it and give it another try but its still a miss a week later
