These are just my initial impressions, but I've found the game to be charming as hell, with simple, effective graphics, tight platforming, fun music, and (as many have noted previously) a dash of Sonic thrown in for good measure.
Tags: Platformer - Metroidvania Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Xbox360 pad unresponsive. Gigantic levels that are hard to navigate. Blind jumps out of screen to next platform. Jump animation loose and imprecise. The plot makes no sense, it is a musical themed metroidvania featuring cats and a bunch of tryhard sprite characterization indie dudes, one with a shaved head and glasses, another one with a hood. The 8bit music seems like the only place where this has even a hint of talent but nothing worth trudging through this painful game. Progression gets locked behind score doors. Game told me to destroy green blocks but I could not see any counter raising anywhere to tell me I was raising my score. Conclusion: This is just bundle filler and library clutter. Good riddance and no regrets.

Excellent game. A true hidden gem. Don't look at the graphisms, I know it's bad, not the worst but still bad. But except that: Good gameplay, Good level design, awesome music, good idea, good length. You can't say that there is a story, but it doesn't really matter. If you are looking at a retro platformer, it's the game, it has everything: Level design allowing more than one path like Sonic: Check Redoing a level with new objectives like Mario 64: Check (Plus, a lot of objectives are hard but fast to finish) Secrets: not a lot, but there are there. Collectable and upgrades: Check. A bit of crafting: check The only con that I find are the graphics and some objectives that are a bit frustrating. Check the demo if you are hesitating. There is 33 level with 7 objectives each + 9 bosses.
This game is a nice little hidden gem. Plays with a HUB à la Super Mario 64. All levels have multiple objectives, you then unlock more levels based on your progression and there's plenty of collectables. Loved it.
Futter für Old School Jump n Run Fans.
A very solid game paying tribute to 16-bit Sega Genesis/Mega Drive platformers. What I like the most is how you can explore the main castle and complete various stage objectives in the same style as Super Mario 64 but in 2D. It is incredibly hard, though, so many quests will leave you raging. It's very worth it for the price.
Crystal Towers 2 XL is a retro 2D pixel platformer. An unusual twist in this game, very pro-consumer, is that the developers (deliberately or accidentally) did such a bad job developing it that it crashes on launch (with a helpful message to disable screen cap software, which I don't run), as an admission the developers have no idea what they're doing. The benefit of this crash means that gamers don't have to play their (presumably) awful game. Looking at the screenshots, since the game doesn't actually run, I can see it's retro pixel crap and should be avoided.
It's a side-scrolling collect-a-thon game, basically. It's all Sega-style jumping on baddies and springs, plus some stuff pulled out of Mario 64, like a castle hub world, and levels to be played over and over to get all the things and beat it in all the ways to get more of the things. Couple of bullpuke bosses, but it wouldn't be a nod to the 90's without them.
Needs more love. Its such a solid good game.
