Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Sep 14 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It's a decent, straightforward JRPG, remake of a flash game that was on Armor Games, then as a part of Crystal Story II's paid Steam release. Dungeon crawling, using basic attacks and skills to defeat mobs and a boss every five floors. The story is a bit dated and genre standard, but it has some subversive elements that I like. Mercenary Inc is a band of average adventurer misfits who are hired by the blond Hiro the Hero to defeat Rita the evil witch so that Hiro can take credit in exchange for a generous bounty. Hiro is unsurprisingly an incompetent glory hound and Rita doesn't even see the protagonists a anything notable right until they defeat her giant undead dragon at the end of the main story. The remaked skill system is more flash than substance, but it's novel enough.
I really hate what happened with the remake of this game. It is an entirely different experience than it once was. It feels soulless and it just doesn't click the same to me as it once did in the past. I wish Lanstrash should've just released this remake as a separate game of its own.

Played Crystal Story II to rate this game, the idea of remaking this game to a brand new engine is good. However, compare to CS2, there are some cons in this game:

The new skill point system seems good, but the list itself is too small. You have only 25 different type to assign, with maximum of 29 points to use. The skill tree system in CS2 seems much better than this, as there are many nodes in a tree. The only con of the skill tree in CS2 seems there are very few branches in a single tree, makes the various less.
The new disk system is good, but the extra stats given by the disk can make the normal equipment useless. Also, there is no way to upgrade an equipment like CS2, so the only way to get a better equipment is to grind a lot and hope they drop a better equipment. The disk forge system seems useless at all, as most the skills it given are useless, and the stat provided by the new disk are re-rolled, makes the stats in the old disks disappears.
This game lacks extra challenges, such as arena and Boss Rushes, minigames like match-3 and card battles, and endless dungeons.
Usually, I don't talk smack about games I like, but this one is an exception. This is a remake of a game I loved back in the Flash era. Sure, now it's made in Unity, so we have better map navigation, and the character portraits got an overhaul. That's where the good ends. As a JRPG, you have gear and skills. These allows to tweak the characters' stats and skills as you see fit, but in this case... - Weapons have no set stats. If you want them to have any, you need to loot them or reforge them. If they are of a quality of white, you have a default weapon. And no, the Evolblade saying it is a balanced weapon is not a statement, it's an artefact from the same item from Crystal Story 2, in which the Evoblade did raise all three stats equally. - Gears comes either as equipment, or skill discs. Thing is, skill discs comes with a skill and likely-related stats when you get them, meaning they already get one up on the normal equipment. - You can combine gear in the Alchemy shop. If you have good stats on a piece of gear you combine, they may not transfer over on the newly-made piece. Heck, you might get a worse piece of gear. This is also a problem when combining skill discs, but at least the skills being combined is a guaranteed result. - You have a skill grid. You gain one skill point per level up. With a max level of 30, that's 29 points you get to spend in the grid. Except, there are 25 skills in the grid, and 20 of them can be increased to 3 tiers. That's not so bad, but one character in particular gets the shaft because he is the only one who literally cannot raise his HP this way. Even if you raise the defensive stats, this character will still get shut down in the lower levels of the dungeon when enemy hits 4 random targets. Now this is mechanically a step-down from Crystal Story 2, but there are other changes that irks me: - The dialogues have changed. Usually for the better, but a lot of it has been cut. In the original, every time you clear a Stolen X quest, after talking with Koohli, you are then taken back to Smalltown to return the item and get treated to a conversation that did flesh out the characters. These bits have gone down the toilet. - Kaeli's bio has been nuked. More in-line with her character in Crystal Story 2? Sure. Still a blasphemy. - The status effects don't affect the enemies the same way they affect your party members. Stun in particular is useless against enemies, since their Stamina bar still fills, while yours doesn't when you get stunned. - Buffs doesn't work on a timer, but per action. As such, don't be surprised when your Attack buff gets removed after one use of Barrage (attack and stuns a random enemy 4 times). - Fishing returns from Crystal Story 2. I wouldn't complain about it if there was a key bind to replace having to click on the Reel button. - No Zombie Defence, which was in the original AND a fun minigame. - Quests yield no rewards past the boss' loot and the ability to visit the area you found them in, which... don't yield that great of rewards. In the original, finishing a quest also gave the party an extra skill point, which would have worked WONDERS here. If you want to play this game, by all means, do. It can be a good time for its price, if you don't know what you're missing on. In my end, I cannot recommend playing this game until it gets a serious overhaul and giving Reuben a HP Plus in his skill grid.
3/10 Here’s Why Honestly it’s not THE WORST rpg I’ve played if you can even really consider it that but it is ONE OF THE WORST. It wants to play like old school Final Fantasy and it does in graphics and that’s pretty much it it’s super repetitive and pretty grindy. The main story that gets you to the credits is fairly quick if only doing that it’s like 3 - 3 1/2hrs. But upon seeing the credits the post game is horrendous it’s just a go here go there and then a few super tanky bosses ending with the evil witch. The bosses leading up to here of course I had to max all my characters levels so I did that took two hours. And then I spent an hour just going in and outve a dungeon to get the best gear and spells and weapons I could to fight Rita the evil witch. At this point I spent about 4hrs grinding to get suited up for final boss which is longer than the original game to credits took. First time I fought her she whooped me second time she whooped me but in her third phase and all of this grinding was simply for the last achievement of beating Rita. Upon dying several times I reload (it kicks you to main menu every death) and when I reload I’m perpetually falling through the map.. even upon reinstall , verify files, even restarting my pc and doing a fresh install of the game and using backed up game files. I STILL FELL THROUGH THE FLOOR. So now this game will haunt me with one stupid achievement missing and I refuse to replay it. https://youtu.be/SAmvU_lb6UA?is=P2KswPa25CFtgt6z Here’s a little review video I did aswell
A quick and simple turn based RPG to kill a day or two with. If you're really strapped for cash, you can just buy Crystal Story 2 - it's both a better game and also has the original version of Crystal Story playable from it's title menu...and it's cheaper!
I really like this game! I played this and it's sequel when they were still on websites, I'm only a few hours in right now, but so far I'm enjoying the games classical turn based atmosphere. I prefer the second game over this one, but I appreciate the freedom of customization found in this game as well.

This is a remake of the old Crystal Story, and somehow the original is much better. The sequel, which is available on Steam too, is much better than both version of the original Crystal Story. You're much better off playing that one instead. If you really want to see the beginning of the saga, you're better off emulating the original, flash game then.
