amazing little flash game thats cheap and i grew up with. 100% recommend, the fighting is fun, story is intriguing and actually not that bad, a lot of customization and etc. all in all you should play it if your trying to decide off reviews.
I love this game so much! I grew up with it and it burrowed its way into my brain forever. Replaying it is still fun :) The class system starts to outstay its welcome at higher levels and you might find yourself locked into a build that doesn't work. But overall the game still holds up and is very charming. The Steam release has some new content as well. I love the characters so much, especially how they have a chance to talk and reply to each other in battle. They have so much personality despite being pretty simple character types. Also, I love the combat system! I wish more RPGs used visualized speed systems like this. It's very fun to plan around.
I played this game 10 years ago on ArmorGames and threw down my wallet first chance I got when I saw I had access to it on Steam. I invested so many hours into it back in the day and the wave of nostalgia that hit me when I booted it up again after all that time was intense. It's a fun turn-based game and the characters always made me laugh.
i played this i believe on newgrounds YEARS ago and i cannot describe how happy i was to find it on steam. i absolutely adored this game back in the day and (even independent of nostalgia) it still holds up as a great little traditional fantasy rpg. the story is a little stereotypical but it's executed well enough that it didn't bother me at all. i love the characters though i wish there were more interactions between them outside of story cutscenes. turn-by-turn gameplay usually starts to drag quickly for me but the levelling and upgrading system pretty much makes it so that you can get through almost the whole game without grinding at all, and you can get a huge variety of attacks so it never really got boring. minigames are nice fun breaks from the format of the regular levels (although merc defense keeps beating my ass but i think thats a skill issue lol) i really truly love this game and its one of the first ones i suggest when my friends ask for recommendations. 10/10 underrated gem
TL;DR: Game has issues with a lack of Quality-of-life features and end game grind, and if you're aiming to get 100% achievements; then avoid this game. I'm serious. (Read below under the 'Getting 100% Steam Achievements' header as to why.) ========================================================================
POSITIVES
[olist] [*] Characters fall into certain roles, but have some flexibility when fully maxed out and can multi-role pretty well. [*] Some of the minigames and side missions are pretty fun and provide useful rewards. [*] If you're just aiming to reach the end of the story, then you won't have much difficulty. [/olist]
NEGATIVES

I will talk about my issues regarding getting 100% Steam Achievements in the next header, so none of those issues will appear in this section.
[olist] [*] Since this was a Flash game, the graphics don't exactly hold up well. I'm talking about low quality sprites during the battle screen and how enemies only have one sprite, no variations. So they will slide across the screen when patrolling and don't have any animations when in battle. [*] Clutter: Once you max out your characters, you'll have so much clutter of Skills to cycle through in battle. The skills do get sorted into specific categories, but even then, some skills feel misplaced like the Poison skill isn't considered a Physical attack, a Magic skill, but a Nerf (Debuff) skill. Not to mention that if you want to search through all acquired skills uncategorized, you're looking at around twelve menus. [*] Skills: This one is absolutely infuriating. So the healer character I started off with CANNOT ACCESS THE STRONGER VARIANT OF THE BASIC FULL PARTY HEAL SPELL , they're stuck with the basic version. The other party members are also affected by not having skills that would greatly benefit them. You want to know why this is? When investing into stat points into their skill tree, the skills provided for them seems to be randomized (I genuinely hope this is the case, otherwise it's such a horrible decision). So my rogue and speedster party members had access to the stronger full party heal, but not my healer. [*] Money farming: I spent so much time just replaying the same side mission to grind for coins just to add a few levels to gear upgrades. It takes an absurd amount of coins to max out just one character's gear to beat the hardest bosses. There is no 'easy' method to get coins easily, just grinding away and selling loot which helps, but isn't enough to justify the costs needed for end game upgrades. [/olist]
Getting 100% Steam Achievements
[olist] [*] Snowboard Extreme is maddening to achieve. You need to memorize the static areas of the map and have fast reaction speed to get through the randomized zones. You are only allowed to lose five seconds worth of a mistake, which is either once or twice, any more and you will go over the time limit necessary to get this achievement. You will need to play near flawlessly to reach the sub-one minute and twenty second time needed. [*] Card Class GM: You either end up with opponents who hand you an easy win or you get paired with one whose cards hard-counter yours, and if the game decides that your element swap actually benefits the opponent, you're S.O.L. and without grinding away at the later zones to get specific cards (White Shell and Flame/Wind Samurai), you aren't going to reach 5 wins easily without RNG throwing you an easy win. [*] Doom Bringer: If you didn't accept the side-mission post-game to retrieve stolen ship parts and fought the boss, guess you're redoing this fight a second time and that sucks, why? Because this boss requires a guide to beat, and it's mindnumbingly boring. Refer to the issue of grinding coins from the above header, because that's what'll take the most time of your 100% achievement run outside of the card minigame. [*] Generic Quest: Requires a guide, you will never figure out how to achieve this normally with the amount of zones you won't visit outside of initially exploring them. [*] Number One Card! and Impossible Deck: There is no useful information about how to get these two because discussion on them is either vague and users don't provide anything helpful or had no replies. Had to look up a YouTube video on this minigame and copied the card layout there to actually advance progress to get these last two achievements. [/olist]
A remaster of something I used to always play in middle school! Elegantly done!! 10/10
