DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME... If you value having a social life, or really a life at all. There's a dark magic associated with this game, that makes days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and one day you'll wake up from reuniting the kingdoms of Charlemagne, or uniting Scandinavia, and wonder where all that time has gone. ... and its still just as fun as playing the new Crusader Kings 3, if you're wondering.
This is probably a fun game if you already know what you're doing, but as a new player it's been a frustrating experience. I've given this a go twice and both times it just hasn't impressed me. The tutorial wasn't very helpful, and the UI is insane with information scattered all over the screen, which left me feeling overwhelmed and fed up. The game didn't do a good job of explaining why I couldn't take actions or what requirements I was missing. I mostly felt lost and was spending more time searching for explanations than actually playing the game. The learning curve is super steep and the game does very little to ease you into its complex mechanics.

It is a great game. I enjoyed playing it a lot even without DLC. The idea is fun and its execution is done quite well. One of my favourite paradox games of all time. The fact that it's free now is the cherry on top.
CKII is the perfect embodiment of the phrase: 'If you live an interesting life and die an interesting death, you won't be remembered as just a footnote in history but an interesting footnote'. If you enjoy roleplaying or Medieval history in general, you will absolutely fall in love with this game. The main downside is that the vanilla game, like more than a few Paradox titles, is incredibly bland; playable, of course, but bland. Although the DLC is well worth the expense, in my opinion, I can appreciate that not everyone is willing to fork over exorbitant amounts of money, their soul and their pet cat to greedy Emperor Paradox. At least this game has the benefit of being discontinued.
Great Game sadly dlc is expensive but there are ways still one of most fun games mods are needed in my opinion though i get realllllly unlucky with claims

I would recommend Playing CK 3 before this as I find it is a bit more user friendly. That being said if you on the fence about rather to buy CK 3 or have already played CK 3 and want more of that. Then this is simply a must have experience. For many people, like myself, this was the entry point into Crusader King series. I will tell you now you will NOT find any other game like it. It is a true medieval ruler simulator. Some would wrongly compare it to a sid meiers game. A more closer summary would to be to call it a mix between game of thrones and Civilization, but even this grossly over simplify the game. Here, you will manage your domain, rather you are appeasing your liege, subjugating your vassals or conquering (or being conquered by) your neighbors. You will have to keep track of your budget, maintain cordial relationship with family, and battle your rivals. You control the destiny of history. You can relive the past exactly how it was or rewrite it as you see fit. It's your choice.
Great game if you have money for DLCs because most of the game is locked behind them!
