A retro-inspired 2D Action RPG set in the distant future. CrossCode combines 16-bit SNES-style graphics with butter-smooth physics, a fast-paced combat system, and engaging puzzle mechanics, served with a gripping sci-fi story.

great game but the puzzles make me want to rip off my balls and throw them at 45 degree-angled walls
I hate this game!

But I also love it.
Crosscode is an old retro-like game experience pushing to j2me game's traits, particularly heroes lore zero. It surprised me how an sci-fi pixelated game looked so alive. Random ''players'' walking around, funny monster that for some reason are holding miniguns or just a cyborg goat. Story, BGM, Fighting style or system, all of them are quite well developed, as well... puzzles. I got to like most characters that appeared and expressed themselves like a unique group, be it out of rivalry or friendship. Dodge, parry, elemental stats, an addicting yet simple combat system that worked really well Nonetheless, to do anything, you must do puzzles, puzzles and more puzzles! Good isn't it? They aren't really that hard(excluding some small numbers that made me feel the sadism of the dev behind it) But there are just a giant amount of them. Everywhere you go, anything you do. Side quests, hidden stuff, dungeons or bosses. more than 70% of my playtime were just puzzles probably(My save has actually ~45% of playtime, the remnant is just me alt tabbing after getting lazy/annoyed) Anyways, it is certainly a game that worthy of a try. Both the world setting and the story delivered something amazing that is hardly found on games. Downsides, would be the fact that the equipment are quite limited unless you grind(and at some point they just stop being that special when you look at the percentage buff of a lot of things that ones gives to you), some could have a better roguelike'' effects too, same to the skill tree that is quite basic despite having a lot of stuff in it. I also fought the last boss and part of DLC with 10, 20 behind enemies because of an item that locked exp gain and didn't notice at the time. o7 You could get quite lost after quitting the game for some time or just a mission that isn't really explaining where to go, there are many ''find xxxx'' Also, both alabaster dawn and crosscode doesn't work on emulators like gamehub, for some reason. And a strange fps lock to 45fps(with low game speed) sometimes if the game isn't the only window opened, like you're using battery saver. It is fixed by opening menu or moving to another area(not 100%)

Its been awhile since i played. But i recall the puzzles were pretty difficult and require a level of precision that controller users may struggle with. The story is fine but nothing that truly manage to grip me to stick around for more than the time i've spent on it already. Ended up dropping to 36h in. I have no real jarring negative recollection of this game, but since i dropped it, it's unfortunately a thumbsdown from me... and I usually never drop games that are at least 7/10 and above. So take that for what its worth.
GOOD GAME GOOD
