Cross Quest is a fun homage to Turn-Based RPGs with charming character moments and a distinctive 4-bit art style (no AI here, folks). I’d recommend this game easily to Dragon Boys that want to start a Quest for the Summer King to Slay the Chandelier Serpent. The Cross won’t Quest itself now, will it?
I LOVE STEVE CROSS The game took me about 5 hours to finish (I moved my save over from itch.io). Bad balancing in turn based games can make them feel like a slog but Cross quest felt perfect to me, It was never too hard or easy! It was so satisfying to beat challenging enemies and bosses and finding new strategies using Steve's techniques was really fun. The characters are so loveable, especially Steve. I love that lil' guy with my whole heart. The enemies have such cool designs and all the boss fights were super memorable. I love all the music references too: I need a Cross Quest reference playlist ASAP!! The game also touched on a lot of themes I didn't expect it to which was a really nice surprise (I won't spoil though!!.) You can feel the love and effort put into every aspect of this game, please give it a shot!!
Sounds like Slint!
A fun game with really charming music, art, and writing that had me hooked the whole way through! I love how often it likes to mess with you too, Cross Quest starts off simple but has plenty of twists and genuine surprises (both in exploration and in plot) to always keep things interesting. You should absolutely give it a try!
Sounds like slint! I hadn't really played any classic RPGs going into this, but it was a great spin on that style regardless. The art and music are excellent and the gameplay felt pretty well-balanced once I got the hang of it. The tone and humor are unique for a game like this and the NPCs were always fun to chat with - Steve has a charming way of interacting with his world, and the world has a charming way of responding to him in turn. By the end, I just wanted to see *more* - I managed to squeeze 7 hours out of it but it's realistically 5-6 hours for most. I'm excited to see what's next for Steve!
While other indie RPGs have been coming out, I believe this one best captures how old school classic Pokemon was like. It has a similar battle system, however, you really do need to strategize with how you go about fights, rather than blindly spamming one move. Use! Your! Items!!! The character designs, dialogue, to even the story, all have a charm, which makes you want to interact with everything and dive deeper the more you go on. This game isn't perfect, it's sometimes hard to tell which and what buildings are supposed to be, and the enemy spawn rate was overbearing in the later section, but this game is very forgiving, as you do not have to restart from the beginning if you are defeated. Thank you! The creator has a world they want to share with us, and it must be explored, so let's go on this quest together!
Played more hours on itch.io than i did on steam, but i wanted to post my review anyhow. Cross Quest is more than meets the eye. Its funny, its challenging (but not too hard), its rewarding, in general its satisfying to play. Cross Quest is a wonderful top down RPG and i would recommend it to any fans of the genre.
Cross Quest is a charming retro turn-based RPG that clearly had a lot of care put into it. The story is engaging and the gameplay feels polished, and you can tell the creator really cared about both. The Object Finder helps you locate hidden items worth money, and the Arena is a great way to earn money while adding extra challenge. A solid throwback RPG that respects your time and rewards exploration. Highly recommended for fans of classic RPGs.
Cross Quest is a super fun, retro-style RPG that feels like a mix of Legend of Zelda and Gargoyle’s Quest. The pixel art is charming, the battles are simple but satisfying, and exploring the world is full of little surprises. Like early Pokemon - kind of addicting. It’s pure nostalgia without feeling outdated—level up, fight monsters, and uncover secrets at your own pace. If you love old-school RPGs or just want a cute, fun adventure, this game is a must-try.
All 90s kids, rejoice! The nostalgia is real with this one, bringing me back to the days of old, growing up playing Pokemon or Zelda on my Gameboy. It feels so awesome to be brought back, but this time with a game that has its own unique worldbuilding that it feels familiar at the same time. Not to mention, I found myself laughing out loud during gameplay with the dialogue and little nuances embedded within. Very fun and highly recommend!
