It's been a while since I've played an engaging and beautiful look-at Hidden Objects game. Criminal Archive is a detective series, and I don't know why I started with their latest game, the 4th one in the series. The main story doesn't have any connections with the previous games; however, the characters you are playing along with are from the previous games. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3393943931 The game starts in the police department, where you'll learn about a new murder: the body of a judge has been found on the riverbank. This time, you are not needed as just a crime reporter; they want you to work with them as a consultant for the police department and investigate the death of the judge by tracing where the victim went before his death; there are multiple people to investigate and accuse as the game has three endings. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3394981528 I enjoyed the gameplay, as it plays differently than the usual HOG. At some point in the game, they'll introduce you to the stars system, where every answer you give or question you ask will let you earn stars, which will determine the outcome of the chapter. In each chapter, you can earn up to 12 stars.

Bad ending = Zero stars
Neutral ending = 4 stars
Good ending = 10 stars
The game is heavy on puzzles, and while most of the puzzles are unique and fun to solve, some are quite difficult and will take a few minutes to solve. There are eight hidden objects scenes, and all of them are visited twice; however, each time, they are played differently and mostly like puzzles, not the traditional list of names, and you try to find the item. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3394944328 There are three types of collectibles: tickets to furnish the boudoir, fashion magazines, and Barber tools. They were fun to spot in each visited scene. I loved the soundtracks so much; although they are repeatable and sometimes missing, they fit the atmosphere beautifully, matching the outstanding artwork of the game. Each scene looks prettier than the one before. The character's style is nice, but the animation is quite dated. The game has multiple cutscenes, and all of them are voiced. Pros: +Beautiful visuals and location design. +Good music. +Well drawn hidden objects scenes. +Beautiful and useful journal keeps track of the story. +Good voice-overs. +Variety of original puzzles. (48 in total, some of them are difficult) +Stars system, which will determine the outcome of each chapter (A total of three outcomes of each chapter and a bonus chapter, 12 in total) +Collectables (3 types) +Bonus chapter +In-game strategy guide. +Steam achievements. Cons: -Character animations are lacking. -You need to purchase a DLC or Deluxe edition to unlock more areas and choices [6 stars choice] to get extra information for the story. This is required in order to get the true ending but doesn't affect the achievements. [strike] Somehow, I couldn't get any of the six stars in any of the chapters; I don't know why, although I replied to it three times. I might have missed something,[/strike] (Turned out you need to purchase the DLC to get the six stars choice) but the whole game with the bonus chapter took me 7 hours to finish as I didn't skip any cutscenes or puzzles. It is important to play the bonus chapter as it will change your perspective and conclusion about what you did in the main game. I highly recommend this puzzle-heavy game to people who enjoy solving mysteries and puzzles.
В общем, Criminal Archives: Blade of Deceit Collector's Edition у меня оставила неоднозначное впечатление. This game locks the good ending behind DLC, meaning that when you buy this game, you are buying an incomplete game. If they wanted to do this proper, they would have included the good ending in the game itself, and increased the base price if they really felt the game was so worth it. Instead, they decided to go the route of playing tricks and mind games on their customers. Absolutely unreasonable, absolutely scummy practice. Don't bother buying this.
Adventure game, hidden objects, minigames, detective, noir, mystery. PLOT The people living in the city are shocked by a recent homicide: a renowned local judge Alexander Therpen was found dead on the bank of a river. An expert official consultant of the Police is called to investigate, his fame is known for having solved previous violent and inhuman crimes. The first investigations suggest the Barber located nearby, because the victim has a clean-shaven chin and a deep cut on the jugular compatible with a well-sharpened razor. But it is not so easy because there is no precise motive and also the time of death and the place of the crime are not well known. As everyone knows, a person who does this job is not always well-liked, sometimes they attract several enemies, so the list of suspects is large. As the detective investigates and finds several clues, the list of suspects narrows, but suddenly there is a twist: the main suspect is found dead. What to do then? To solve the case he finds himself searching in a web of deception, trickery and hidden motives. Even the people who should help do not trust to talk. Will he be able to discover the murderer and bring him to justice? GAMEPLAY Nice adventure looking for objects. Well done graphics and music suited to the theme. Puzzles and minigames with medium difficulty, fun and easy to complete. There are many characters to talk to, sometimes we can choose how to respond, depending on the choice we earn stars, this will influence the ending which changes depending on our choice. This edition is full of collectibles, they are indicated in a box on the left when they are present in the locations. Lots of extras, wallpapers, minigames, search for replayable items, videos and much more. It is possible to purchase a DLC to delve deeper into the story. There is a map for fast travel, a diary to consult, a button for "HINTs", and a complete guide to consult if you get stuck and don't know what to do. It is possible to choose the difficulty in the Easy or Hard puzzles I recommend it, it's an interesting and long adventure, a mystery-filled crime genre. Criminal Archives: City on Fire was EXCELLENT in many ways. Blade of Deceit isn't so good. Most of the objects don't make any sense in their context of use. I know some say they're just being creative, but some of the uses are ridiculous or really a stretch. It's not easy to know what to do next and many times I copped out with the hint button. Such a shame because I really appreciate real life based games such as police, detective, mystery etc without all that supernatural crap. But they really need to do better next time, especially since City on Fire was so good!
One of the choices I had to make would not allow me to choose the best answer, so I cannot access the full game. I paid for this game and cannot fully access the whole game apparently.
Bravo 9,5 / 10.
