Prof.Vaharrak's Curator Group - Almost 30 years of gaming experience at your service Let me start by saying COSMOS does one thing exceptionally well: controls. Solid af. It's an action platformer where your goal is to clear every level of enemies in as little time as possible, with a big focus on vertical movement and a myriad of obstacles to navigate around. Things start of simple enough, but you'll quickly find a variety of enemies and traps you'll need to adapt to in order to achieve your next medal. For this you shoot with your mouse in any direction, and move with your usual WASD + space combo, and you can double jump, wall-run and glide by shooting downwards, and it has been one of the most oddly satisfying platformer experiences I've had in recent times. Note that, since you're using two separate control methods at a time, you better have good coordination or get them brain hemispheres working in tandem son, I appreciate games that let me develop coordination and COSMOS sure falls under that category. I don't consider myself one for speedrunning platformers, but COSMOS features such smooth controls that I didn't mind finishing a few worlds just to make sure the game felt as comfortable during later levels, which it did much to my enjoyment, and I had a hard time putting it down after grasping the feel of the game. My only real criticism is the fact the music is meh, big time. It's the weakest aspect of the game. If you're concerned about the graphics, you don't need to, they are functional and trust me, they'll grow on you. If you like platforming, shooting stuff and speedrunning, COSMOS does a good job on all three departments. Recommended!
Not terrible, but the level design is so generic and bland that they may as well have been randomly generated rather than actually designed. I was bored after the 8th or so level when I realized it felt like I played the same level 8 times in a row. I'm assuming that's what the rest of the game is like. Also IMO the player movement is a tad too fast and hard to control.
Tis a quality game and it's a lot of fun to try to get the best medals on all the maps. The controls mixed with mostly speedrunnable levels makes for some solid platforming. 8.5/10 - Dolpenguin
A small and very simple game. Tbh, it's too simple for my taste so for me personally, it's a no. But i'll still give it a thumbs up purely because the game itself isnt of poor quality. The content that's in there is done well. So i feel that giving it a thumbs down would not do it justice. My constructive criticism would be that although the core mechanic is fun, there's not enough variety to keep it fun. So it felt stale after pretty much the first 10 levels. Don't let this discourage you from buying the game though! Just try it out for yourself. The game is pretty cheap so you'll quickly know if you've gotten the bang for your buck.
EDIT: Since posting my original review, the developer has gone in and addressed some of my issues. I originally did not recommend this game, but I have updated my review to reflect those changes.
Here's what you do:
You play through vertical scrolling stages, climbing, jumping, and shooting enemies. You can aim freely of your movement with either a mouse cursor or right stick on a controller. There are six world with up to 20 short levels in each (each world varies). There are no boss battles. One hit will kill you, restarting the stage. The goal is to get to the top of each level while taking out all the enemies (and surviving).
What I like:
+ Local co-op multiplayer through all the same levels as the single player. + Multiplayer arena battles to face off against your friends (no bots). + Medals are awarded at the end of each level based on how quickly the level was beaten. There are no medal requirements to simply beat the game. They are only there for achievements and leaderboards. + A different environment and new enemies and obstacles in each world. + When using a controller, you can move and climb walls withe the left stick, fire in any direction with the right stick, and jump with either A or the left trigger button (preferred so you don't have to take your thumb off the right stick). + The arena mode also lets you choose your weapon, from low-fire rate short-range guns to rapid fire lasers. This seems like a way to set a handicap and these weapons are nowhere found in the main game. The arena mode is endless one-on-one matches, but it tallies each player's wins in the corners of the screen.
What I don't like:
- When playing with a keyboard and mouse, the controls take some more getting used to: movement and jumping is all done with one hand on WASD and spacebar (to jump) while moving the cursor on the screen and holding down the mouse button to shoot. It takes a lot more coordination than I'm used to, so I recommend a controller. - Controllers do not work on menus. You have to navigate all menus using a mouse and even have to use a mouse to proceed from one level to the next.
Conclusion:
The game is short, it can be beaten in about 90 minutes. There is extra fun to be had if you have someone to play with locally by beating the game in co-op mode or fighting each other in the arena. The only other thing to do is try to get the fastest times in levels.
Want a more detailed look? Watch this:
https://youtu.be/2YNK5NROgxw
This is an entertaining and challenging game which i personally enjoy so thanks!!!!
上头,真的上头
The game is really fun, especially after a few levels when you get used to the controls and how the player can move around the map. I finished the cave stage and am now on the ice stages. really enjoying the game so far, i hope the music changes up throughout the different stages though, that would help keep it feeling fresh as you play through. also, though controllers are supported, its wayy harder to use a controller, since to aim you have to use right stick but to shoot i had o use the X button so i couldn't aim and shoot at the same time. but using key board and mouse felt pretty good.
