About
I set out to make a puzzle game but I kept adding more and more stuff I like until this popped out.
I'm not really a story or lore kinda guy, so there's none of that here. You're just a little round guy exploring a colourful world, solving 81 logic puzzles across 9 interconnected zones, collecting stuff, and unlocking new abilities as you go.
It's puzzle-first, but there's plenty to do between puzzles too. Navigate the entire world seamlessly with no loading screens - lots to explore and a few secrets to find if you're the curious type.
If you like:
Puzzles
Platforming
Collecting stuff
Getting upgrades
Finding Secrets
Then you might like this.
I hope you do, but if not, thanks for checking it out anyway!

(About halfway through, might edit once I complete everything, I assume my final playtime will be 3-4 hours, which is pretty good given the price) I vibe with this weird little game a lot. Puzzles are somewhat easy but there's some pretty solid mechanics here. Kind of baffled by the platforming bits, in a good way? They're (so far) basically mindless hallways full of easy to grab collectables. It's good that it's easy because if the platforming was challenging it'd be frustrating with how unwieldy the controls are. I really do like the flow between platforming and puzzles, alternating between the two activities keeps me from getting bored despite either element individually being kinda basic. But that's just how my brain works, I'm not sure it will appeal to other people in the same way. Given the tile based structure it really feels like the game should have a level editor of some sort, but I get that's easier said than done. [strike]Edit: Softlock on a late game mandatory point of progression that saves you inside the softlock. Can't really recommend the game in an unbeatable state. Will change review back to recommended once this is fixed.[/strike] Has been fixed :)
Tried this in the NextFest demo and thought "This was pretty fun! If it's like $5, I'll probs just buy it when it comes out tomorrow!" Now that I've played through, this is a super fun little sokoban/Microvania-lite hybrid game! This feels like one of those flash games I used to love growing up blended with tons of more modern design sensibilities in the best ways possible! Easy recommend from me! Also, lowkey, the soundtrack on its own is worth the price of admission :P

This game was great, the puzzles were challenging but not impossible, well worth the money for some good 2D fun. I was only disappointed that there wasn't a secret at the very beginning of the game, it sure looked like there would be one... Played on SteamOS (Deck and mini-pc), it's a Gamemaker game so it could probably run on any potato you've got
Really cool one shot puzzle game
Fantastic little game with great Metroid (but puzzle) vibes, would recommend
Scene design, gameplay design and OST so great, and ending's surprising! But I'm somewhat dizzy at the beginning for the high speed of the character.
Fun little puzzler. Relaxing, retro vibes. Really enjoyable music.
Core Descent is a puzzle game in a form of a simple metroidvania. There's a bit of platforming but nothing too hard, and you can't even die. No enemies, no combat. On the other hand, a lot of stuff to collect. Puzzles are nice, can be a little challenging from time to time but due to their nature a few minutes of trial and error is enough to solve anything if you're having trouble. Has some pretty good retro-styled tunes.
Objectively:
7.7/10
A fun puzzle game with good atmosphere and music. I'm currently trying to find my way to all of the items that are off of the main paths and still enjoying myself. At this point, the game is more than worth the price.
