Contagion isn't your average Zombie Shooter but instead takes a more realistic and different approach to the popular genre with unique characters, environments, weapons, items, and a built in system that makes every round completely unpredictable with resources, objectives, and paths ever changing.

Honestly not a fan of how slow and unforgiving the gameplay is, the only thing i like about this game are it's environments and maps, they are beyond beautiful for 2013 source engine. Also, the netcode in this game is so broken that you'll spend most of your time troubleshooting setting up a lobby for your friends to join than actually playing the game. Even if you want to play with the bots they are beyond stupid even on the highest difficulty, they always keep shooting at nothing, never follow you no matter how much you shout at them to do so, and blocking your damn way if you're unfortunate enough to find them stopped halfway through a door. Your only way of enjoying this is solo, but most of the time you'll have to enable god mode because of the amount of zombies there are, I've never completed an entire map due to how long they are. I really wish somebody could do a proper remaster/mega patch of this game due to the amount of issues there are.
Just play No More Room In Hell instead
In short: the game is great EXCEPT its lack of guiding. If you don't mind playing solo or having troubles with getting lost from teammates, then Contagion is great. Otherwise you might wanna think twice before buying. The problem is not the map being a maze and filled with puzzles, but NOT HAVING ANY GUIDING AND TEAMMATE LOCATING. If you are playing from the start-- either solo or with friends-- you would probably be fine, you can solve your way out of the puzzles even though you might get lost quite a bit. BUT, if you are joining a server with other strangers playing half way through? Then good luck to you, 'cuz there is no way you could know where you should go to complete objectives and where are your teammates. Unless some of the players start talking your way to them, which in a random server is unlikely to happen. Which means, if you don't have friends, then Contagion is pretty much a singleplayer to you. I mean you could try joining random servers, but a lot of the times you would just end up running around like a headless chicken, trying to figure out where the fucc is everyone and what the in heck am I suppose to do and go, and picking up random items in the mean time. Then someone somewhere on the map is already finishing up the final objective, soon you get a notification telling you that the game is about to be over, the game that you haven't been able to play because you were lost on the map all the time.
Game is absolute garbage. Its old unresponsive, reloads take too long, zombies are too fast and nigh unkillable save for a headshot with any weapon. Hitboxes dont meet expectations. bullets have weird spray patterns even when aiming down sites. Over ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ avoid like the plague, if its free suffer through it at your own peril.
At first I thought I would need to refund this game after a few minutes of gameplay. Surprisingly, it was very good (at least for me). The game offers many weapons to defend yourself, from guns to melees... but if you were to ask me, I would ditch melees for sure. The game itself might be janky, but I don't really think it affects my gameplay. It's fun, scary, and annoying if zombies were at the wrong spot at the wrong time. This game would be like what would happened if No More Room In Hell and Left 4 Dead 2 had a child. It's forgiving than NMRIH, but punishing than L4D2. Despite it being "co-op" yet having a dead server browser, you can still enjoy it Solo. Like L4D2's Director AI, the game itself has RNG mechanism, to make sure you never play the match over and over. For my likes - The game is singleplayer friendly - You can adjust difficulty - It offers a lot of guns - Has a roster of characters that are also fully voiced - It saves your progress if you pick Campaign - It's very light on your system, my CPU did all of the work. - The settings offer a lot of options to match your playstyle - The game supports workshop, which is a massive win. For my hates - Can be too confusing if you don't know the layout of the map, might get loss. - Melees are not worth it, guns are more superior - Animations can be a little weird, specifically the melee finishers - Framerate cap sometimes changes to uncap, VSync is necessary if you want stable performance and efficiency - Multiplayer is mostly dead, unless you play with a group of friends - Quest Items require a single slot of inventory just to be picked up and used - You can miss your shots quite a lot if you're not aiming properly, this is prominent with shotguns for some reason - You can't see the ammo type of your weapons, so there's a time you'd use a gun and realize that gun's ammo is connected to another gun. - Some attachments may not work on other guns, how come we can't put scopes on sniper rifles but we can put a sniper scope on the SCAR? - Where the hell are the medical kits? Who needs defibrillator in a Campaign especially when you're solo? - Bashing is delayed sometimes. Not to mention melee doesn't have bashing but instead the attacks itself are delayed sometimes. OVERALL: [8/10] It was a good and very underrated game. Glad I found it during the sale. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but for people who had played L4D2, NMRIH, or the alike, they might want to try this. It can be difficult at times but most of the time, the game is really forgiving with its abundant ammo resources... though not very forgiving when it comes to giving away medical equipment. ----AFTER 9 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY---- All I can say is... If you're gonna play solo, please please... do watch walkthroughs first. I started at Barlowe, the first chapter was fine, but the second one?! I had to restart many MANY times, the chapter is too damn long, it's too damn cramped and you're more likely to find DEFIBS instead of healing items... So yeah, this is the time where I had to strategize because running and gunning would not work especially in a cramped place like the Northwest Bank. The last chapter, Barlowe Square, when I was at the near end I was met with a locked door requiring a key... IT DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME I NEEDED THE KEY, so I had to restart, but it's all good since the map is larger than the cramped Bank or Metro, and there are soldiers assisting you. But I can't hate it, it's fun and has the charm of NMRIH and L4D2, it'll be cherished just like the Gold Standards
