I played this game when I was a kid and I thought I'd give it the old nostalgic go. The game is missing all the quality of life improvement we now take for granted. It crashes all the time, the AI is hit and miss, the save system is needlessly obtuse, and to top it all off it provides precious little explanation for the intricacies of its gameplay. It's still a surprisingly fun game for its age, with lots of flair and charm provided by the retro graphics, the immersive music and soundscape, a simplistic but solid tactical system, and the brilliant addition of the daily (weekly?) gazette with its witty and informative articles. Expect some frustration, but also lots of enjoyment.

Brings back a lot of good memories.

Great old school, city building and strategy game.

Game is from the 1990's and is still an epic game. Still has the save limit issue, sadly, especially since pc's have much more space than a cd back then. But definitely worth it then and now. Just think, no more dialup issues if one wants to play online with others. :D

Classic! hard to stop playing once started. Replay value is high and different with each game.

A classic with mechanics and quality of life scarcely found in modern titles.

I loved this game for a long time. I have some great memories of playing hotseat with a couple friends when I was younger. But I cannot recommend this game right now. Unless they figure out how to fix the crash during battles, this game is unplayable. The memory fix that users have recommended in the discussions no longer fixes the issue. You'll maybe get 50 turns into a game. After that, any battle will cause the game to crash. I really wish they would fix this...

Version jouable et fonctionnelle sous Windows 11, de ce vieux jeu. Que j'avais joué étant gamin (par contre, je pense que j'avais une version français... ) Heureusement que j'ai un anglais largement suffisant pour comprendre lol. Visuellement c'est de la 800x600. Je souviens qu'à l'époque, j'avais des problèmes pour sélectionner les unités en end game, le jeu ayant du mal a enregistrer le double click (lag). Mais, avec un pc gamer moderne, ça toune sans problème. Le gameplay se fait au tour par tour, les unités ayant des points de déplacement, on gère de petites colonies, leur placement en early game est très important ! Elles grandissent progressivement en level, et débloquent ainsi de nouvelles fonctionnalités, jusqu'à ce que vous décidez de votre indépendance, profitant de prix d'exportations/importations plus intéressants. Les combats sont réduits a de petits mini jeux, avec un peu de profondeur tactique : on a des bonus si on a plusieurs unités diffences, si on fait se déplacer la cavalerie on a un bonus de charge, si on attaque sous de multiples angles... Bref, c'est comme un jeu Plateau plateau ! Le volet diplomatie est limité par contre. Surtout sympa pour le côté nostalgie, toujours marrant d'avoir une flotte et d'écraser les colonies voisines, après avoir avalé les petites tribunes hostiles.
