About
Confederate Express is a hardcore mouse-only clicker puzzle that leaves no room for mercy. Set in a grim dystopian future, you’re trying to deliver a mysterious package. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. In this game, making it past level 3 feels like a victory. The difficulty curve is less of a curve and more of a sheer cliff, with each of the 50 levels designed to break your spirit and test your very will to continue.
Mouse-Only Mayhem: Forget multiple inputs—this game is all about precision, as every action is driven by nothing more than your mouse. One wrong click? You're back to square one. Get used to the grind—it’s the only way forward.
Experimental, Brutal Gameplay: Confederate Express is a niche experiment in extreme difficulty. It’s not designed to be accessible or easy. It’s designed to test whether you’re tough enough to survive. Spoiler: Most aren’t.
In a decaying, dystopian world, you play as a merciless exterminator on a mission to deliver a mysterious package. The path is riddled with impossible scenarios, where each level throws you into a blood-soaked battle against vicious enemies who use deadly tactics. Every encounter is a test of skill and survival, and failure is inevitable—but each death only brings you closer to uncovering the dark secrets of the world you’re trying to navigate.
Confederate Express boasts an unmistakable visual style - "aliasing" - powered by a proprietary rendering framework - False2D™ API. This technology allows for an unparalleled visual fidelity, transforming a collection of over 50,000 hand drawn animation frames into a spectacular flurry of visual feast.
Confederate Express is a hardcore, niche experience built for those who crave an insane challenge. It’s visceral, punishing, and relentless experience, pushing your patience, reflexes, and even your sanity to the limit.

Complete waste of time. I was one of the unlucky ones to have kickstarted this hot mess, and it is nothing CLOSE to what was advertized. There are NO RPG elements, NO story, NO sense of satisfaction playing this game. You use one mouse button to move, and the other to move and shoot. This would be poor even for an android or iOS game, which is sad to see because it had so much potential in the beginning. I'm sorry, but I would not recommend this at the current price ($11.49 CAN) and STILL would not recommend this game at $2. I feel slighted, and betrayed by the time and effort I have spent playing this "game".

I saw this kinda copy past review, where you just have to give a “✓ check” for the correct section, whether it being regarding on how many bugs etc there were.. You know, it seemed right, a half arsed review for a half arsed game. But then I remembered something, I am not writing a review for the game. But for YOU, the potential buyer, and you deserve more than a half arsed review to tell you why you should NOT buy this game, under ANY circumstances!
The reason non-gameplay wise
I know you have all heard some stuff about the drama that this dev has been involved with. As a kickstarter backer I will be biased, so if you want the full story, you can google it. This dev, spent 5 years in the dark, just to come back to kickstarter and tell us that this was build on a lie, that what he asked for “for the kickstarter to be successful” he knew that was too little, yet because he wanted to appeal to the crowd, he set the minimum accept lower than what he needed. And I am not kidding you, he even had the audacity to state that what we were to think of the game after it being created was irrelevant
We love to make games. Whether people like them or not is unrelated.
I took the liberty of immortalizing this quote on imgur So besides promising something that he knew he could not deliver, taking our money in the progress. He didn’t want to stop there, entering itch.io September the 7th, 2017 all of the kickstarter backers got a fine little email with the caption “A Personal message to our backers” Now I don’t have much else to say regarding Maksym Pashanin, but if you want a more general walk through of Maksym Pashanin’s morals look, take a look at this video Where Are They Now? - Maksym Pashanin. Although this video is a bit old now, it does go through some of his background.
The reason gameplay wise
Although not much is promised on the steam store, I will go through the different promises one by one, starting with:
GAMEPLAY
The game promises MOBA like controls, well unless attack move + move is the only way you can control your character in a MOBA game, then that is false. Especially concerning some enemies, those depicted in the gif right below this promise. They will dodge out of your bullets, and then fire one bullet themself unless the get hit. I can not say how long I tried to manually dodge while using the attack move to controle when firing, just like they did in the gif. Yet that would not work, the only way to deal with those mobs, is to attack move parallel to the mob, and just let the character shoot and walk by it self. Yes maybe my APM is not high enough, or I am not skilled enough to do that kind of maneuver fast enough, yet it is only the start of my problems with the gameplay. You cannot force attack none hostile mobs, I can accept that you can not attack or kill civilians especially because they don’t drop coins on death. But why are we limited to trying to walk so that the observer is in between a zombie and you, and then attack move to the zombie to attack them? There is little to no variation of the looks of the special mobs, although the zombies have 3-5 different looks, the other mobs don’t have this kind of variation. This seems like a designer gone lazy halfway through the design phase. There is basically no settings in game there is a:

Sound slider
Music slider
Computer Power slider (wtf?)
Screen resolution
Full screen
Some kind of lock
A clock
And an I
No explanation on what any one of those settings does. When exiting fullscreen, you cannot interact with the settings menu anymore. In general this is really lacking.
LORE
Huh? is there Lore in this game? The gameplay consists of you mindlessly killing everything in a scenario, and then walking to the exit. There is no indicator whatsoever, about any LORE. Although this is not really a complaint, I just don’t understand why the dev wrote on the steam store page that there was LORE, when there clearly is none. Besides that, this game does not really need a LORE. I mean, it is not like it would make the gameplay acceptable.
Apperance
Now credit where credit is due, the game does look gorgeous, no matter if it is that “False2D Application Interface” or just the designers. But as I said before, there needs more variety in the special mobs appearances!
Summary
I went into this game with a negative attitude towards kilobyte and the infamous Maksym Pashanina. My attitude has not changed one bit. This is the bare minimum for what could be called a game, and thus I would NOT recommend it. Not just based my bad experience with the kickstarter, but because this is not something I would waste 8€ on. tl;dr: I helped to fund the kickstarter, I am therefore biased. The gameplay is lacking, if you can say there is any. There is no LORE in the game, even though it is written on the storepage that there is. The only thing I can say in favor of the game is that it looks gorgeous. Not recommended!
I don't even know what this is, lol. One button for auto-move and one button for manual move. It doesn't have much of the things they said would be in the game, as far as I know. Look up the Kickstarter page for Confederate Express and then look up the Kickstarter page for their canned game Knuckle Club. This is one of the funniest scams in gaming. Also look up these guys and what they do. You'll either shake your head in disgust or laugh in disbelief.
I am a backer and first was glad that finally I received a key. Since I paid on kickstarter over 30$ I did not receive the product for free (so not marked as gift key). The one thing is, that the game is far from what was described on kickstarter. I know that projects can take a bad turn and that is part of the kickstarter system. But what I got was more like a slideshow than a playable game. It was like super-slow-motion. If reduced graphics to a bare minimum but to no avail. I checked the system requirements and they are a joke for a game like that. The minimum is above (!) the recommended setting for GTA 5. This is just bad. Avoid the game if you can.
5 years from kick-starting it, and in the interim the game has shed almost *all* of the promised features; No story, team, upgrades, choices, locales, or fun. To further lean the package down they've also made sure not to slow things down with any kind of game play (played to level 20, I understand that there are 50 in total). The pixels are nice, but this feels like a pre-alpha tech demo. The two button game play (coupled with the random paths your bullets will take) will ensure that you spend more time restarting the levels than actually playing them. Graphics - 7/10 Gameplay - (still looking for it but I'll leave the place holder of 1/10) Story - Absent (you'll find more on the kickstarter page than in this game) Promised features - 1/10 Zombies - Played out Dev's Squatting skills - 10/10 Buyer's remorse 10/10
Just want to preface this review with... DO NOT GIVE THIS PERSON MONEY. See my personal experience with him at the bottom of the page if you want to know why. I have been trying to find the time to put a few minutes into this game so I could write this review. It absolutely confirmed what I already knew... It's a huge steaming pile. Pro's: Nice art Easy to learn mechanics Cons: This is nothing like the game that was promised in the kickstarter Boring after 30 seconds So bad it isn't worth your time even if it was free Other: I still love the campaign for this game, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/829559023/confederate-express, Maksym did a great job with that. However this isn't that game. Not at all. History and some personal experience with the developer: The now infamous creator of this game "Maksym Pashanin" disappeared for years with tens of thosands of dollars of backers money. Several months ago I got an email in my inbox saying he was releasing it. I was quietly hopeful that this would be a comeback to go down in the annals of gaming history. It wasn't. Along with a (terrible) tech demo there was a link to dev forum on itch.io. (I notice this is now gone). Wow, citisism of the dev did *not* go down well. He defended against detractors with a narcissistic fervor, deleting negative threads and banning anyone who had anything critical to say. Before my own thread was deleted and I was banned - NOT abusive but I did reasonably question his integrity given he had disappeared for 3 years and was taking preorders again - He called his backers "kickstarter scum" amongst other things. In his defense, he later apologised and invited me back, but I wished him well and went on with my life. I didn't believe he was genuine but gave him the benefit of the doubt. Sad to see this clearly talented but misguided young man is still wringing as much money out of people as he can. Maksym I think it's time to bury confederate express, it's a stretch to call it a game and it's not what you promised 2300 people you would give them. Just leaving with the cash would have been better than this. Go back to the drawing board and release a real game (when it's actually finished) under another name or something. I loved your concept and kickstarter campaign for this game. Use your obvious talent for good and not taking advantage of of people who appreciate your talent :) I still wish you all the best in honest endeavors.
A result of a scam Kickstarter and not at all what was originally promised. Do NOT waste your time on this.
This game is quite a crap. The real game was this Confederate Express Kickstarter, and it was quite cool, but then creators decided to become crap themselves.
Тоже когда-то поддержал этот проект на Кикстартере. Обещали тактическую RPG, получили глючный двухкнопочный кликер. Не покупайте.
