I made a steam-powered latch today!
This game is crazy, it really wants you to build a steam based computer step by step and I am NOT smart enough for this.
It's no Zachtronics but for a small price it scratches the itch. Obtuse and clunky, from the UI to the instructions, and the only real help offered is "join the discord" which only works because the developer is there and quick to assist. I only got about halfway through the levels because of the lack of clarity and how many new concepts are crammed into each level and didn't want to keep asking for assistance on each stage so that is frustrating, but the concepts and puzzles are interesting nonetheless and I always respect educational style games.
A difficult and mentally complex puzzle game involving math through pressure and the effects caused by it, including logic gates that function on a "power level" sort of basis. Gets significantly more difficult as you progress, often requiring you to improve previous designs to progress. But it is worth playing if you're into difficult puzzle games.
I played through the entire campaign and really enjoyed exploring the concept of pressure-based computing and learning to master the mechanic. I tend to enjoy games that present a simple mechanic and explore it in increasing depth (e.g. The Witness), but the hardest part from a developer's perspective seems to be introducing new challenges at the right pace to keep exploration rewarding, yet giving the player a clear goal at each step. The level buildup of ComPressure does just that. At some points the learning curve was quite steep. There can be some confusion and - as others have written - a tolerance for frustration is required. But this increases the reward :) I was very surprised at how much can be done "natively" with the very basic/atomic components provided in the game. The game Turing Complete has a similar approach (the classic computer science task of building CPU components from scratch using NAND gates), while ComPressure uses transistor-like valve elements. This creates different challenges to those previously seen with NAND gates, giving the game a fresh feel with much to explore. Unlike e.g. Turing Complete, ComPressure sometimes requires you to refactor previously built (and tested) components. This could have been avoided by making the requirements for the components very difficult in the first place, but this might make initial progress too difficult. I found this to be well balanced, and being able to successfully refactor old components felt rewarding. The game's Discord server felt very welcoming to new players, and the experts there are happy to share their progress in further optimizing the builds.
Saying that Compressure is a hidden gem is an understatement. It is unlike any other puzzle game I have played. While it has many similarities to the Zachtronics games, There is one thing that sets Compressure apart. Compressure forces you to improve. It isn't merely a suggestion. Every level you complete becomes a component in future levels. At first it's pretty easy, but as you progress, it becomes apparent that your old designs simply aren't good enough to meet the strict time and accuracy requirements of the later levels. Just when you think you have the game figured out, the next level completely destroys you. Beating this game means continuously studying its mechanics and improving your designs. It is incredibly rewarding. It is also hard. Really hard. Sitting at around 1.6% of players who finish the game, it is one of the hardest puzzle games I have ever played, and I loved every second of it. All of this is saying nothing about the actual puzzle mechanics, which are deceptively deep. Everything in this game is made from only 3 components: pipes, valves, and inlets. From those, you construct more advanced components, one level at a time, all the way up to a simple computer capable of calculating the first few fibonacci numbers. Challenging enough, but where it gets insane, is when you realize that every circuit you make is inherently flawed. They will always be slightly inaccurate, or too slow to respond, or perform worse within certain pressure ranges. These flaws compound on each other at every level, which leads to some very interesting challenges. Compressure is definitely my favorite puzzle game of all time, and I think everyone who likes challenging puzzle games, or has an interest in computer engineering should give it a try.
A Zachtronics-type game with steam and analog(ish) computers Do you enjoy quasi-programming games like eg: TIS-100, KOHCTPYKTOP, Silicon Zeroes, or SpaceChem? Then you'll enjoy this one. The graphics and music work reasonably well with the steampunk aesthetic, though also sometimes feel retrocomputery at times. The UI *does* feel off in some way, but I'm not sure how to best describe it beyond probably fixable, and it seems worth learning its oddities.

I'm only about halfway through the game, but I absolutely love it. As others have said, it very much feels like early Zachtronics games like Konstructor (KOHXTPYKTOP) where a few simple rules lead to unbelievable complexity. There's a lot of breakthrough "Ohhh!" moments. Extremely enjoyable if you like that kind of stuff.
