Still functions pretty well! (2025) The only downside is that you need to remove the intro cut scene by either moving or deleting the 'movies' folder in the game's files.
It is not a simulation. (It says it is) It will not run on Win. 10 -11,. It is not worth the price. It isn't any good. U might get the idea i don't like this game. Well, you could be correct.

This is nice game, you have to delete intro in your files to playing it. If you don't delete it, game will crash! I remember this from my childhood and I have this on dvdrom as well.
Combat Wings is an old game, so old, you have to do a couple things to make it run on a modern system, and it's got weird controls (mouse and keyboard only, no DirectInput!) but the graphics were pretty impressive for its time (mid 2000s) but the missions were... weird. Patch 1) Delete or rename the movie in the MOVIES subdirectory. Else the game will crash upon start. Patch 2) If you have multiple monitors, run MouseJail (download separately) as the Devs did not anticipate rise of multiple monitors, and did not "lock" the controls into a single monitor. Once you've done that, you get an arcade flight game where you a part of US Navy's World War II campaign around Midway in April through June 1942, and you get to play as pilot or gunner in about 20 or so missions. The game was developed by City Interactive in Warsaw, and let's just say, their idea of "American" isn't quite... proper, and it's pretty clear their writing team was writing in Polish and translating to English later... There were a lot of cultural oopsies, like calling sailors "soldiers", as well as odd word choices. At least they hired a proper American voice actor, whose accent was... unintentionally funny, esp when things got exciting like "Kill all the Japanese planes!" "Kill those Japanese spy balloons!" and so on. The game is also strangely, quite hard. I was playing on EASY, and there were still a couple missions I had to replay once or twice. I can't imagine playing on medium or even hard. The UI was also a bit iffy. While you do get automatic reticules on all enemy contacts so you can aim and sort things, It doesn't separate ground and air targets clearly, so when there are a dozen air targets and you're over an enemy fleet of 6 or so ships, each with multiple sections to damage, the whole screen turns into a confusing mess. The game also took a bit of liberty with history to give you entertaining missions. Fighters were giving a couple aerial rockets which acted as rudimentary missiles (!?!) and B-17 bombers were given both torpedoes AND bombs. At least landings were extremely easy. Graphics can be gorgeous, as cockpit lighting does change depending on the angle of the sun. Japanese fighters and bombers break apart into pieces when killed (but a bit static looking) However, there appears to be no throttle indicator, nor are there gears and flaps and such. Those are all... "automatic". Just decelerate over the runway, and put yourself down "gently". Furthermore, many missions let you end in mid-air. The most egregious problem... No kill counter was kept. All in all, I think this game is worth $5, just don't expect a lot out of it. It's a bit of mindless fun.
