great game as with all the combat mission games are
every mission goes like this: Situation Weather is clear, dry, and extremely hot. The location is the city of Al Habibi, located somewhere outside of Damascus. Mission You're tasked with entering the city and seizing it. Keep your own losses as low as possible. Friendly Forces Artillery is unavailable due to civilians. There are no tanks available. You have a few Humvees and Strykers with limited ammunition (they can be destroyed by a single RPG hit within about 300 meters, and the maps are too small to keep them at a safe distance from the enemy). A platoon of infantry has been delayed due to data link problems and is due to arrive in 50 minutes. Enemy Forces Intelligence reports that every enemy unit has at least six RPG rounds. Intelligence also reports that the enemy has at least three AT-3 Sagger and four AT-4 Spigot missile teams positioned to engage your vehicles from long range, even under suppression. Expect the Syrians to throw everything they have at you. They also have artillery support (the mission begins with Syrian artillery bombarding your position, causing casualties and suppressing your units). Plan The plan is left to your discretion.
It might have a simple look with basic graphics, but its deep mechanics force you to think carefully and strategically. Every move your units make is vital and can change the entire course of the battlefield. It takes hours to truly understand and learn the game, so you have to be patient. In the end, when you achieve your first clean victory, the feeling is incredibly satisfying.
its a good game
UI is bad
edit: they resolved the issue and were good about responding to the community, however it took way to long for a fix. The game is fun, especially if you're looking for a more realistic slower paced wargame that's not tank spam. The problem with the game is how outdated it looks and sometimes feels. Grab on sale. *OG REVIEW* I was originally enjoying the game! however after yesterdays session my troops no longer spawn in on any mission. I've deleted mods, revalidated the files and even reinstalled to an entirely different disk. If the issue gets resolved than I will consider changing my review
I'm torn on the combat mission games. On the one hand they offer a wargaming experience unlike any other, on the other hand there hasn't really been any kind of innovation or solutions for age old problems and engine limitations. They just keep churning out pricey new content at very irregular intervals. I loved the games and still do but cannot for the life of me recommend them to new players unless they finally revamp their terrible engine.
As a long time player going back to SF1 days, this games longevity is wonderful to experience. Fantastic tactics title with amazing emergent gameplay across scenarios and campaigns. Love it!
Great game! Definitely enjoying the new DLC!
A bit of a learning curve and graphics, UI etc may not be up to todays standards but its still a fun, stressful game.
