Very very close to a not recommended, practically had to flip a coin. Here are the pros! 1. Graphics/level design. Outstanding! Was so immersed by the environmental quality of some of the missions, especially the arctic maps! Missile attacks and strafing runs are pure eye candy! 2. VO, some of the writing may be a bit tongue in cheek for the most part but a wonderful talent pool provides some solid voice work to make up for it! 3. Comfortable with the Hotas X although flight takes some getting used to if jumping from Air combat games like Project Wingman or Ace Combat. The thrill of navigating small canyons and caves is unmatched in Comanche. 4. Decent selection of missions with a high end difficulty which may be off putting to many but I enjoyed the trial and error of it. Now here are the cons 1. No free flight. IMO its almost mandatory in something as beautifully designed as this. Would have added hours upon hours of playtime. 2. Multiplayer servers which were taken offline way too quickly and never re enabled, it has been years and the least they could have done is remove the option from the main menu, as its now become intrusive. 3. Current price is decent but a tad too high for lack of any updates regarding servers, do wait for a major sale on this one. $9.99 is a better full price 14.99 at the most. 4. Missions are great but some including long range sniping feel cheap as many shots feel quite hit and miss regardless of how well your accuracy. That one sniper bomber mission had me close to biting chunks out of my arm due to the poor placement of hitboxes. 5. No Damn Free Flight. Yes I had to list this one twice. If not Multiplayer, at least they could have given us the option to zoomy zoom around the wonderful maps. The team did a wonderful job with them, having no free flight is just insane.
Game is dead Last update August 26, 2021
The term 'Don't buy at full price' applies to this a lot. For £17.99 you can buy a lot of good games and this isn't worth it at all. But on sale for £5 or less it provides a good bit of fun for 5 hours plus. The story is boring and a couple of the mechanics and missions are frustrating but overall it's worth a play if it looks good to you.
Absolute BS game. Do no trust screenshots/trailer it feels much worse on practice. There is not a single point in the game that good or enjoyable. The whole level of game is a weak prototype for a 2005-2010 game at best, but don't be confused with a good games of those times. No it's not even close! If you want better helicopter experience then you should play Apache Air Assault by Gaijin. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS.
The game has the right right stick controlling the pitch and roll of the comanche, while the the left stick controls the altitude and direction it faces. While you can change the bindings for these controls you can't choose to invert the horizontal controls, only the vertical controls (I don't want to look left while pushing the stick to the right). I don't understand how a 5 year old game is missing such a basic feature commonly found in flight games (or just video games in general).
Comanche is a modern reimagining of a classic helicopter combat franchise, developed by NUKKLEAR in collaboration with Ashborne Games and published by THQ Nordic. Rather than attempting to recreate the hardcore flight simulation roots of the original 1990s titles, this version of Comanche shifts its focus toward a more action-driven experience, blending arcade-style accessibility with selective elements of tactical flight combat. Set in a near-future world where advanced stealth helicopters are no longer exclusive to a single superpower, the game frames its conflicts around escalating global tensions and the widespread militarization of cutting-edge aerial technology. At the center of the experience is helicopter-based combat that emphasizes maneuverability, situational awareness, and target prioritization over strict realism. Players pilot a variety of advanced aircraft equipped with missiles, machine guns, drones, and countermeasures, engaging in missions that range from direct assault operations to more methodical objective-based encounters. The controls are designed to be adaptable, allowing players to tune the flight model toward either a more arcade-friendly feel or a slightly more grounded handling style. This flexibility makes the game approachable for newcomers while still offering enough nuance to reward players who invest time in mastering momentum, altitude control, and weapon timing. The single-player campaign provides a structured introduction to Comanche’s mechanics and world. Missions are presented as part of an ongoing conflict involving the Tellus Task Force, with briefings and voice-over narration giving context to objectives without overwhelming the player with dense lore. While the story is functional rather than deeply engaging, it serves its purpose as a framework for varied mission scenarios, including escort operations, base assaults, reconnaissance tasks, and large-scale aerial battles. The campaign’s pacing is uneven at times, with moments of intense action followed by more repetitive engagements, but it generally succeeds in showcasing the breadth of the game’s combat systems. Beyond the main campaign, Comanche offers additional challenge modes designed to test piloting skill and combat efficiency in more focused scenarios. These missions strip away narrative elements and concentrate purely on execution, encouraging players to refine their flying technique and weapon usage. For players who enjoy mastery-driven gameplay, these modes provide a satisfying way to engage with the mechanics without the constraints of story progression. However, the overall mission variety can feel limited over longer play sessions, as objectives and enemy behaviors begin to repeat. Multiplayer was positioned as a major component of Comanche’s long-term appeal, featuring team-based modes built around aerial combat objectives. In theory, these modes highlight the game’s strengths by emphasizing coordination, map control, and role specialization within teams. In practice, multiplayer activity has been inconsistent, with low player counts often making it difficult to experience these modes as intended. This lack of a sustained online population significantly diminishes the value of multiplayer-focused features and leaves the game feeling more like a primarily single-player experience despite its broader ambitions. Visually, Comanche delivers a competent and modern presentation powered by contemporary rendering technology. Helicopter models are detailed, cockpit views convey a convincing sense of scale, and environmental effects such as explosions, missile trails, and lighting contribute to the intensity of combat. Landscapes range from deserts and forests to urban environments, offering visual variety even if their layouts sometimes feel interchangeable. While the graphics are solid, the art direction tends toward realism without strong stylistic flair, which can make locations blend together over time. Sound design plays an important role in selling the sensation of flight and combat. The roar of engines, the lock-on tones of targeting systems, and the impact of weapons fire all contribute to immersion, particularly during high-speed engagements. Radio chatter and mission dialogue provide atmosphere, though they rarely leave a lasting impression. The audio presentation supports the action effectively but, like the narrative, remains functional rather than memorable. Community reception to Comanche has been mixed, reflecting its position between arcade action and simulation. Many players appreciate the thrill of helicopter combat and the accessibility of its controls, praising moments where the game captures the excitement of aerial warfare. Others criticize the repetitive mission structure, uneven balance, and underutilized multiplayer components, noting that the game’s ambitious scope is not fully realized. These differing perspectives have resulted in a divided response, with enjoyment often depending on how closely a player’s expectations align with the game’s design priorities. In the end, Comanche stands as a competent but imperfect attempt to revive a storied franchise for a modern audience. It succeeds in delivering moments of exhilarating aerial combat and offers an approachable entry point into helicopter-based action, but it struggles to sustain momentum through content variety and long-term engagement. For players with a specific interest in helicopter shooters or fans curious about a contemporary take on the Comanche name, it provides a worthwhile, if uneven, experience. Those seeking a deep simulation or a fully realized multiplayer ecosystem, however, may find its ambitions exceed its execution. Rating: 6/10
One really big downside to this game is the lack of save points. I play for 30 mins and fail the mission at the end and back to the start you go. Soooo frustrating and such a waste of time. Then I get all the way through the stupid thing and complete the objective in part 2 of the campaign "destroy the harbour reinforcements" and it does not advance. All I see is the yellow objective arrow hovering in the middle of the harbour indicating 5m and no sign of an enemy. I restarted a few times, played the object again and same dumb stuff happens. I watched some video walk throughs and it gets to where I got stuck and simply advances. A good thing I only wasted $7 on this thing. I'd rather have coffee for that money. Great graphics, fun flying with Xbox controller but the most frustrating game I've played in years. I will be uninstalling this very soon.
Bit short. But its okay.
★Rejugabilidad: No ★Stream: No ★Contenido: Campaña, Conquista (misiones secundarias), Online (no funciona).
