Collector's Cove

I’m not one to leave long reviews. But someone else talked about needing other instructions for the fabled fruit/fish and I have to agree. I hate googling instructions but on more then one occasion I had to google what something meant. They have a book to keep progress adding a few details on symbols they added would be greatly appreciated. However I throughly enjoyed this game and will probably play it through again some day when it feels new enough. I hope by them they added some more details. For anyone wondering I played this on a steam deck for the entire 50hrs I played it in its entirety.

Collector's Cove is a cozy farming game set on the ocean where you sail between islands, grow crops on your floating home, fish, gather resources, and fill out your Collector's Compendium as you work toward becoming a Named Collector. A big part of the game is managing your little farm boat while using it as a base to explore new islands and bring things back with you. Pros ✔️ YOU GET YOUR OWN PERSONAL NESSIE TO LIVE ON! - That alone is a selling point for me. ✔️ The island travel loop is done really well - Going from island to island actually felt worthwhile here. In a lot of games like this, islands can feel like forgettable places you stop at, loot, and leave. Here they felt more thought out. ✔️ The art direction is lovely - The whole thing is bright, warm, and easy to settle into. It has that soft cozy look without feeling too plain. Cons ❌ I ran into an issue with the tutorial - This one was partly on me because I got over ambitious, but it still slowed me down more than it should have. ❌ I wish we could customize the boat more earlier on - Since your floating home is such a big part of the game, I wanted more room to make it feel like mine sooner. ❌ It could use more character options - Games like this always hit better for me when I have more ways to make myself feel seen in them. Conclusion It is a really cute game. It has that nice Story of Seasons and Animal Crossing feel, but it still does enough of its own thing that it does not just feel like it is copying them. I also think if they keep building on it, it could lean even harder into that friendly little pirate adventurer feel, which I would love. I had a really nice time with it and it is one I would happily keep checking back in on. Score 8/10 Curated Compendiums - Cozy, cute, and easy to settle into.
