Cold Iron - Quick Draw Western Duels

Not much time in it yet, but holy macaroni it gets you pumped. Initial level is straight forward, seems like it may well be easy enough if you're fast enough on the bell. Then the buggers start moving around, only showing position just before they fire, or you have to figure out which one is your real target. I'm only as far as the guy you have to 'listen' for when he moves around in total darkness. It actually works but this was one situation I wasn't quite fast enough on yet. Love the quick draw dueling aspect, does need a little more straight forward one on one or even online one on one would be nice. And leaderboards, for times and such. Sweet game, great ideas, needs a touch more but is certainly enough as it is.

Cold Iron is an epic western dueling FPS that has wry humor, captivating production, and a steep difficulty curve. I love it. The duel mechanic is fun and fair. The places it goes are wild and unexpected. Cold Iron has great music, a pro voiceover, and just enough well done animated cutscenes to move things along. The VR app itself can be finnicky, but not to the point of preventing play.

Cool as hell, hard as hell. First few duels are good for friends and family to try some VR dueling, but after that things get more serious. More polished VR games like this, please! Oh and online leaderboards would be nice in an update :)

Totally unplayable with Vive Index. The position of the guns is completely unnatural, and there are no settings to fix it.

Il western è un genere che, dopo aver rischiato la scomparsa dalla seconda metà degli anni settanta, pare sia tornato in voga; specialmente al cinema. Nell’ultimo decennio infatti Tarantino, i Coen, Mangold e molti altri ci hanno ricordato la potenza sbrogliata da una catarsi che vive di attese, facendo riscoprire anche ai più giovani gli iconici topoi del genere che tutti amiamo. Il videogioco ha cavalcato solo in parte i periodi in cui il genere americano si è insinuato di forza nella cultura popolare, tuttavia oltre al meraviglioso Red Dead Redemption pochi altri sono riusciti a buttarci di forza all’interno di quell’immaginario fatto di duelli all’ultimo sangue e deserti sconfinati. Cold Iron è l’esordio VR di Catch and Release e racconta di una misteriosa pistola in grado di freddare chiunque ne intralci il cammino. Dopo la scomparsa di nostro padre erediteremo questo mistico oggetto ed andremo a cercar vendetta attraverso le più variegate ambientazioni. C’è subito da dire che nonostante il setup di base sia chiaramente quello del western, con scorci desertici in cui duellare tra cowboy, ben presto si andrà verso una direzione che amplierà generosamente l’immaginario, tra demoni delle foreste e grossi carri armati. La coerenza stilistica tuttavia regge per tutta la durata dell’avventura, vuoi per un racconto tenuto in piedi da una splendida voce fuori campo, vuoi per una direzione artistica minimale ma efficace o per un commento sonoro di grande eleganza. Nonostante passeremo dal combattere banditi in un saloon ad un occhio gigante al centro dell’universo il tutto non risulterà mai incoerente, facendo anzi della follia del racconto uno dei punti di forza del titolo. fun game, but gets repetitive fast

Received this game as a prize from the Helixx VR team. The narrator reminds me of the cowboy in the big lebowski, Amazing. Love the art sytle and the music score. The dueling part is a skill I am still working on.... Gotta be quick. I have yet to beat this, got further in the exhibition mode than the campaign but im working on that quick draw. I would recommend this for the true dueling fan.... Needs a multiplayer mode. I would love to duel my friends not just the clock and AI. Don't know how far. So far Im having fun and would like to see just what is in store with the puzzle aspect.
