In this pulse-pounding arcade style shoot 'em up, players control giant armored robots, loaded with hi-tech weaponry. Chose from two types of mechs: the PLG-90, armed with a high-tech laser rifle or the NúllPunktur with the Vibroblade!

3/10 far better games on steam that are exactly like this but with more depth and content
I spend long hours in game years before it arrived on steam. While almost all shmpus are time based games (up to 15 minutes per stages, no more), cloudphobia move this to next level. Story is simple: your mother-ship will be destroyed in 3 minutes. You have to speed up to defeat boss in that time. It may sounds hard, but it's not. Stages are around 4 minutes long, some sequences may be skipped at full speed but we have to watch out. Each enemy that leave screen - no matter in which direction, damages our mother-ship. If mother-ship is destroyed - game over. We have to mechas to choose from, five stages, so-called story and so on. Music is rather average. Key to beat game is memorize each stage, which is not that hard as it sounds. After few runs you'll be able to clear stage 2 in 20 seconds. I highly recommend this game specially to all shmups fans.
This is a great shmup with some rather unique mechanics. Needing to watch both your own health bar and that of the mothership, which takes damage from any enemies which you fail to kill before they leave the screen, forces players to take on an offensive playstyle. Every stage also has a time limit of three minutes, and you'll need to make use of the boost ability to finish before the timer reaches zero. Boosting comes with its own risks and rewards as using it constantly can lead to the screen flooding with groups of enemies, which can potentially lead to you or the mothership taking a lot of damage, but which can also be a great way to increase your score. The weapons you can choose between, a sword and a gun, also have wildly different playstyles with the gun being a traditional weapon for the genre while the sword requires more finesse to use at close range with strong single slashes for tough enemies and a weaker whirling attack for clearing smaller enemy swarms. There are also significant changes between the difficulty settings, including not only the number of bullets in enemy attacks, but also which enemies you fight and in which quantities as well as the placement (or lack thereof) of various environmental obstacles. If you're a fan of the shmup genre and want something a bit different from usual, you should definitely check out cloudphobia.
Really wanted to love this game. The dev is clearly a fan of Joy Division (every stage is named for one of their songs), so we were off to a great start. It’s quite atmospheric, pairing dramatic scenes from an anime space battle with an OST that is by turns epic and delicate. The Mothership and Boost mechanics are also quite interesting. In any other shmup, missing an enemy doesn’t generally matter that much; here, every enemy that escapes deals damage to your mothership, and once its shields are gone, it’s game over. There is also a 3-minute time limit to each stage, which can easily be exceeded if you’re moving at normal speed, so you need to Boost through as much of the stage as possible (this also helps with score, which is needed for shield recovery between stages). Lot of interesting mechanics at play here. Unfortunately, the main weapons just aren’t a lot of fun. You have either a laser with a straight-on shot—no angles whatsoever, nor any upgrades—or a sword that can be slashed a few times or spun when held. Both are so limited that they offer basically nothing in terms of strategy or improvisation—just move to the appropriate Y levels in the order they appear, and if you didn't, you’re screwed. You have limited missiles, but they are consumable and are only replenished between stages. Getting hit also gives you a considerable knock back stun, making recovery and repositioning more tedious than it should be imo. I wish I could overlook these issues, because the good stuff here is really good. But they’re so fundamental to the experience that you’ll never not feel them dragging the experience down.
Eh?!
After 13 years, this is still one of the most badass feeling shmups I've ever played. I had an old downloadable version before repurchasing on steam a while back. The graphical effects are well executed and felt ahead of their time when I first played it, especially for a 2D/3D rails shooter. The technical art direction has a unique timelessness that still holds up for me. It nails the intensity of piloting an ultra high-speed but dangerously light-on-armor mech, ripping through squadrons of enemies. Gameplay-wise, It has the same addictive arcade quality as the Time Crisis series. You have some manual control over the speed of the linear levels through a boost button. You can use it to ramp up the difficulty, but it also directly affects your score and in turn the shields you regenerate at the end of each level. I hadn't played any other shmups quite like this, and I enjoy the manual control even though I'm still on rails The game itself isn't that long if you can complete it (which I still haven't). The cool factor keeps me coming back periodically though. I appreciate that especially as someone that doesn't yet fully appreciate the danmaku genre in which most of what's going on at any given time is noise you have to filter out in order to pay attention to what's going to be near your 4 pixel hitbox in the next second or two. By contrast, many of the actual gameplay sections of levels feel like well-directed mech dogfights from anime. If you like mechs, shmups, or challenging and unique arcade shooters, this one is definitely worth a try, especially for the $5.99 price tag. I'd probably spend at least an order of magnitude more trying to beat this at an actual arcade over time.
Nice game 5/10
