Update to Review: The developers have shown true commitment to their customers and their own vision. The game has grown and now shines. It's not for everyone and the core concept might be alien to casual gamers but for those who are looking for something original and challenging will find warm & fuzzy feelings with Close Order. As an indie developer and a proponent of innovation in gaming I fully support this team. For $5 I think this is a great deal. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW: I am recommending to purchase the game only for those with patience and an interest in actually contributing to the development of a game. This game needs a lot of help from the community as the developer is capable but apparently inexperienced with game design. NOTED IMPROVEMENTS: tutorial is great now, the UI is improved and polished, the few bugs I encountered originally are all gone, the difficulty curve seems to have been smoothed out as well. Exceptional improvement IMHO. Well done Raconteur Games! There are core design decisions in place that are interesting and could prove to be really fun with a lot of polish and refinement. Missions are currently disjointed and transitions are abrupt and break the fourth wall. Your "minions"(fleet) disappear suddenly and without reason or even explosive effect in one mission. If you skipped the conversation, as many shooter fans do, it is confusing. I kept spending my amassed fortune replacing those ships only to have them suddenly dissapear again. 3 times I did this until broke and finally understood that this mission forces you to go alone. Unfortunately this is the sort of unrefined gameplay I was mentioning. An experienced developer would know to remove player's ability to spend on new ships and when they attempt to do so, place an explanatory message on screen. It takes 10 minutes to code but without user feedback and direction, it will never happen. The game is less than $5 and has tons of potential but don't buy it expecting others to fix it for you. It has a small user population and the forum is empty right now. Buy it and help out or stay clear until reviews at "final release".
Close Order is a space shooter arcade/sim, where beside yollo rampage shooting you also need to use a bit of tactics if you are to finish missions successfully. Why am I recommending this game?! -It's fun -Interesting concept -Very challenging -Fair price for what it has to offer Due specific genre and style of gameplay this game maybe isnt for everyone, but can surely provide every day 30 min of fun.
Nice start to what could be a great game. The simple physics and idea of build your own fleet and conquer works, albiet needs work. Would like to see more enemy/minion types. Also a lot of unfinished planets/levels. Need a more detailed weapon/damage system. Like it so far.
Game can't even properly resize its HUD to resolutions higher than 1080p. With a heavy heart I had to decline the opportunity to undertake the grim task of saving this particular gaming universe. Better luck next big bang.
You're the horde, everyone fear the horde. Generally speaking build your squadron and get to designated place on the map. Various missions where most of them contain this type of gameplay. You can buy more troops which fly around your ship in specific formation. Soundtrack is great but who cares when the gameplay is not. Enemy's ships are hard to hit with super slow projectiles. Controls are not the best and you can move only in four directions (kinda like a flat space). Levels are mostly empty with few asteroids floating around and some flying structures. To be honest I was expecting a lot more from this one, while checking the store idea seemed interesting enough to make be bought this one. Unfortunately I was mistaken.
A strange mix of space shooter with light strategy and elements of bullet hell. The player commands a spaceship that is actually the center of a small flotilla (you build specific drones in order to support your main ship) and must use those drones to get through the levels unscathed. Be warned though, it gets pretty tough quickly (and without warning) The devs listen to the community so that's a big plus in my book (the game used to have some really annoying difficulty spikes, but that's gone as of patch 1.1, for instance) I'd recommend checking it out on a sale.
An Arcade Space Shooter
https://youtu.be/OScm-y7xeew + Interesting story with some pretty nice narration over the cutscenes + Unique mechanics that allow you to have and control a large amount of ships that link and surround your main ship + Fast-paced fire fights with tons of enemies on the screen at once + Fun gameplay that allows quick effortless turns, and fast paced strafing - Near the beginning it says you can unlock new slots for ships by playing survival mode, however there is no indication about how or when you "level up" to get these new slots - There's a bug in the second mission that will stop you from completing the mission if you fly through to two of the stations at the same time. - Some of the levels feel very odd and out of place, for example the second mission all you do is chase down escape pods that don't fire back, the third mission there's these large ancient looking monuments of a bald guy who's not wearing pants... just floating in space... - Survival mode just isn't any fun considering you ahve to use up your "scrap" to stay alive, and it doesn't seem like you get rewarded anything for doing it... Overall it's a pretty fun shooter that has a fair share of problems, but has a unique mechanic that keeps the gameplay fresh and appealing.
This game reminds me of Chicken Invaders but is more complex and it have more mess and neregular movement. The graphics are nice but they can be upgraded. I recommend the game for the old times gamers and action lovers! :)
Disclaimer: I received a key from Black Shell Media to provide private feedback (not a steam review) about the game. Keep this in mind while reading my review.
My old review was harsh and rightfully so. The game was at a very poor state in development at the time. Although the game is still very early in development, my experience with the new update was much, MUCH less frustrating than my initial experience. The controls still feel weird, but now they're much more responsive. When I played the game the first time, it seemed like an impossibility to beat even the first level. Now I can beat the first level, no problem, as I imagine the developers intended. All in all, I'm still not crazy about the game. That being said, if you like what you see in gameplay videos, the game is actually playable now. The potential is starting to shine through!
Well. To be honest. It's a fun game. Is there room to improve? Yes In the end, Close Order is a success as a game. It's fun I r8 7/7. It's gr8 m8. Would bang again.
