Brutal. Relentless. Unforgiving. The mountain mocks your every move. You will fall. You will fail. You will wonder why you dared to climb at all.

About
Climbing is hard.
You’ll fall. You’ll swear. You’ll ask yourself why you even started.
But that’s the point.
The climb isn’t about winning, it’s about enduring. Every grip, every slip, every humiliating tumble back to the base is a test of your patience, precision, and persistence.
There’s no shortcut, no mercy, no hidden trick. Only you, two hands, and the cold face of an uncaring mountain.
Some will call it unfair. Others will call it beautiful.
Either way... the mountain doesn’t care.
Do you?

Climbing Is Hard is a challenging physics-based climbing game developed and published by FirstStep that builds its entire experience around precision, patience, and perseverance. Rather than filling its world with combat systems, lengthy narratives, or complicated progression mechanics, the game focuses on a straightforward but demanding objective: climb higher and overcome increasingly difficult obstacles. This minimalist approach allows the gameplay itself to take center stage, creating an experience that is easy to understand but difficult to master. The game's greatest strength lies in its movement system. Every jump, grab, and adjustment carries weight, forcing players to think carefully about their actions. Progress is earned through skill rather than upgrades, and mistakes can lead to significant setbacks. While this design can be frustrating at times, it also creates some of the most rewarding moments in the game. Reaching a difficult ledge after multiple failed attempts delivers a genuine sense of accomplishment, making each successful climb feel meaningful. The learning curve may be steep for newcomers, but players who enjoy skill-based challenges will appreciate the depth hidden beneath the game's simple premise. Level design is another area where Climbing Is Hard performs well. The environments are structured to encourage experimentation and route planning, allowing players to discover different ways to approach obstacles. Instead of forcing a single solution, the game often rewards creativity and careful observation. This sense of freedom makes exploration more engaging and prevents the climbing challenges from becoming repetitive. As players become more familiar with the mechanics, previously intimidating sections become opportunities to showcase improved technique and confidence. Visually, the game adopts a clean and functional presentation that prioritizes gameplay clarity. The environments are designed to make important surfaces and climbing opportunities easy to identify, which is essential in a game where precision matters. Although the graphics are relatively modest compared to larger productions, they effectively support the gameplay without distracting from it. The straightforward art style also contributes to the game's accessibility, ensuring players can focus on the challenge ahead rather than unnecessary visual clutter. The audio design follows a similar philosophy. Sound effects provide useful feedback during climbing and movement, helping reinforce the physical nature of each action. The soundtrack remains subtle, allowing tension and concentration to take precedence during difficult ascents. While the audio elements may not stand out as the most memorable aspect of the experience, they successfully complement the gameplay and contribute to the overall atmosphere. As an independent project, Climbing Is Hard has a relatively focused scope. Players looking for extensive story content, large worlds, or complex progression systems may find the experience somewhat limited. However, the game's appeal comes from its dedication to a single idea and its willingness to challenge players through pure gameplay. It understands its audience and delivers a concentrated experience built around mastering difficult mechanics and overcoming adversity through persistence. What ultimately makes Climbing Is Hard enjoyable is the constant feeling of improvement. The game encourages players to learn from failure, refine their techniques, and push a little further with each attempt. Every successful climb feels earned, creating a satisfying cycle of challenge and reward. While its unforgiving nature may not appeal to everyone, fans of physics-driven platformers and demanding skill-based games will likely find plenty to admire in its focused design and rewarding progression. Great game, it's challenging but it hooks you in. Great effects! Getting closer and closer to the summit feels so rewarding!
A promising "FirstStep" and a very chill freeform climbing game in the vein of White Knuckle or Peaks of Yore. Very simple but very satisfying.
