CleanFall is an inventive survival roguelike that blends exploration, crafting, base building, and tower defense into a surprisingly cohesive experience. Developed and published by Humanyoyo, the game places players in a dangerous underground world where survival depends not only on combat skills but also on creativity, planning, and resource management. Rather than following a straightforward progression system, it encourages experimentation, allowing players to forge their own path through a constantly changing environment filled with threats and opportunities. One of the game's most appealing features is its emphasis on freedom. Players are given a vast array of tools and construction options that allow them to shape the world around them. Resources gathered during expeditions can be transformed into weapons, defensive structures, machinery, and mobile platforms capable of handling increasingly dangerous situations. The satisfaction comes not from unlocking predetermined upgrades but from discovering effective designs and strategies through trial and error. This approach gives every play session a sense of individuality, as different players may tackle the same challenges in completely different ways. Exploration plays a major role in the overall experience. The underground environments are procedurally generated, ensuring that each run offers new terrain layouts, hidden resources, and unexpected encounters. Digging through the world becomes more than a means of transportation; it is a core gameplay mechanic that allows players to create shortcuts, establish defensive positions, and uncover valuable materials. The deeper players venture, the greater the rewards become, but so do the risks. This constant balance between greed and caution creates an engaging sense of tension throughout the adventure. Combat is built around more than simply fighting enemies directly. CleanFall places significant emphasis on preparation and engineering. Turrets, traps, automated defenses, and various crafted devices can be combined to create powerful defensive systems capable of dealing with large enemy waves. The day-and-night cycle further enhances this dynamic, as periods of exploration are often followed by intense survival scenarios that test the effectiveness of a player's preparations. Success frequently depends on how well players have utilized their resources and designed their defenses rather than on reflexes alone. The crafting and construction systems are among the game's strongest elements. Building mobile bases and customizable combat platforms adds a layer of strategic depth rarely seen in similar survival titles. Players can transform simple vehicles into heavily armed machines capable of traversing hazardous environments while providing protection against hostile creatures. This mechanic ties together exploration, resource gathering, and combat in a satisfying way, making progression feel meaningful and rewarding. Visually, the game adopts a distinctive hand-drawn style that complements its mysterious underground setting. The environments are filled with personality, and the various creatures inhabiting the depths contribute to an atmosphere that feels both adventurous and threatening. While the presentation may not compete with large-budget productions in terms of technical complexity, the artistic direction succeeds in creating a memorable identity and reinforces the game's sense of discovery. As an Early Access release, CleanFall still shows signs of ongoing development. Certain systems can feel overwhelming for newcomers, and some balance issues may become apparent as players experiment with different builds and playstyles. The depth that makes the game compelling can also create a steep learning curve, especially when dealing with advanced crafting mechanics and resource management. However, these shortcomings are largely offset by the game's ambition and the strong foundation already in place. What makes CleanFall stand out is its ability to combine several genres without losing focus. It successfully merges survival gameplay, roguelike progression, engineering creativity, and defensive strategy into a package that feels fresh and engaging. The game rewards curiosity and experimentation, encouraging players to constantly refine their designs and adapt to new challenges. Even when setbacks occur, the process of learning and improving remains enjoyable. For players who enjoy sandbox survival games with deep building systems and a strong emphasis on player creativity, CleanFall offers a rewarding and distinctive experience. Its combination of procedural exploration, customizable vehicles, defensive construction, and strategic resource management creates a gameplay loop that remains entertaining for long stretches. Although further refinement will undoubtedly improve the experience, the current version already demonstrates considerable potential and provides a solid foundation for future growth. Rating: 8/10
