This review was made for Elite Giveaways by Anna from Malkavian Madness
Clea is a stealth-based survivor horror game. You must survive the Chaos Servants that roam your mansion lest you give in to your evil, chaotic self. Besides the Chaos Servants, there are other monsters that stalk the hallways, like Chaos Spiders – tiny evil pellets that you must confront to avoid being eaten to death. Despite the game’s main mechanic being hide-and-seek, Clea features creative puzzles, a cozy atmosphere, and cute art design. There is a dark family history brooding in the background. You must unlock it by obtaining memory orbs and uncovering your past. In order to do so, you must outwit your enemies by using stealth tactics: listening to their footsteps, peeking under doors, looking ahead, and staying far away from them. As you do so, you collect keys that will allow you to escape the Whitlock Mansion, an old estate that has kept the protagonist locked from the outside world. This is not a difficult game. However, the ‘save spots’ here are limited, a mechanic reminiscent of the old classics like Resident Evil, and that really raises up the stakes. Clea is a game where the monsters can follow you even if you have left the level and/or chapter, so this adds another layer of tension to your stealth strategy. There are different levels of difficulty, but if you want a challenge, complete the game in ‘Dark Mode,’ and then attempt ‘Chaos Mode.’ I enjoy how developer VelvetiqueG is open to the community modding their game. Here is a summary of all the mods that have been made thus far. Using the original artwork, they create custom variations of the game design. I also enjoy how there are many unlockables for this game. Here is an example of an art concept we can unlock after completing the first chapter. In addition, Here is a small sample of the wallpaper artwork you can unlock for Clea.

PROS

2D Live Characters.
No Jumpscare. your skills alone determine her fate.
Full Voice.
Challenging stages.
Nice Art. I like it. and also I like Rewards.
Interesting soundtrack.

CONS

No Steam Cloud or Cloud Storage. Your progress will not save to up even you have to play on other device.
BUGS when you open the game and didn't appear anything.

ADDITIONAL NOTE
Clea, an beautiful and cute girl has a younger brother whom she loves so much named Edmord. Their parents are scientists (even though I don't know what scientists they are). Clea's family has many maid who is always ready to serve the Family. Clea has strange disease involving Clea's Chaos (although similar but she is not a Doppelganger) to haunt her mind. But don't worry, if you bring some red herbs and use it, Clea will be safe. In this game, you have to be able to find a way out to be able to survive from the house. There will be many challenges involved. There are many types of challenges on Main Menu to playing them. The game have Multiple Endings and Secret chapters, maybe it will be very difficult for you if you can finish them in less than 1 hour. The most important thing is this game doesn't have Jumpscare might not be complicated if played one. I suggest to you to play this game at night. Because this game has a horror genre and it will be very challenging if you play it at night and don't forget to use a headset with loud sound
Santuy dan Kalem voss, game ini seru banget

RECOMMEND ?
Yes. The game has no Jumpscare so it's safe for you even i'm very lazy for playing jumpscare one. Clea is a anime horror stealth game, you must hide from the bad peeps while collecting items and progressing through levels it can get really hard at times, you only have a limited number of saves which are represented by candles (candles are like the ink save in the old resident evil games) and the game isn't generous with the amount of candles you get, you have to look around in every room to get a good balance between saving and having candles, however the enemies makes the saving that much more punishing, since you'd mostly have to wait patiently for the bad guys to move and or lure them to different rooms, but doing so can take a lot of time, so having patience is key for succeeding in the game. So Clea is definitely a difficult game to get through, but the game does reward you different rewards based on the missions you complete in each level (missions like getting through a level without saving/without being seeing) and the rewards range from the amazing sketches and the complete versions of the artworks of the game to skins for your character, and you get this nice feeling after completing each level, so even though I spent a lot of time on levels I felt rewarded. This game is cool.
Curator page here--> DaRevieweD #126 <-- New review every Weekend

"Just When You Thought You’re in The CLEA~"
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2589277041 Here's The Thing: Tis the night of Clea Whitlock’s birthday. Celebrating alongside her are younger brother, Ed and their maid, Florine. Candle was just about blown too when a loud noise startled them and someone seems to have broken in their residence. With a lantern in hand, Clea ventures out to get to the bottom of it and finds that today will be unlike any other~
[+] PROS;
:) HIDE-AND-SIC! The end goal? Scout for keys, memorize symbol combinations to bypass the locked exit to the next area/chapter. If it sounds EZ- I’m just easing you in! You have to do all those cheeky actions while playing a game of tense 2D one-sided tag, where Clea has to evade and get past a slew of robed beings across six chapters. What keeps it from being the opposite of stale is that the further you go, enemies get faster and more varied! If you thought you could skip your merry way through- you’d be right but you would also miss out on snazzy collectibles by failing to adhere to the medal challenges. For instance, the conditions stipulate you shouldn’t run, hide, use a scented candle or flush a toilet for a specific section. But exploration is absolutely vital for there are must-have items such as potions, candles that you either use to ward off enemies or save progress. Then there are “side” objectives like notes that add to the worldbuilding, key fragments to unlock secret-colored rooms and even upgrades!! If you’re like Clea who thought “can’t I have my cake and eat it too!?” the good news is yes! Some might say, the true game starts after getting all 3 endings out of the way in 1-2 hours. Seeing as you can dive back in for a sugar high with “arcade” mode, competing for leaderboard standings. Perhaps, go wild with a haunted house style of “chaos” or “chaos+” difficulty where enemy arrangements and appearances are put in a blender with the setting being left at “torture”. Besides, you’re sure to feel like the belle of the ball when you conquer them and earn those many, MANY makeovers~ TIPS: 1) Enemy at the other side of the door? Wait until they open it and then do the same! 2) Use those potions whenever you can! Injuries are a handicap! :) CHAOS WHISPER~ Visually, it’s like stepping inside of a twisted dollhouse- the statement being truer with Clea’s snug ribbon hairband and pretty dresses! You’ll be green with envy until you realize it’s furnished humbly to the point of being barren with only bare necessities, so more of a playpen… for a rabbit. Audio cues are your most telling signal of where an enemy currently is or coming from. Whether they’re muffled behind walls, ceilings or trotting towards you! Meanwhile every step you take echoes and that of a weighty furniture being pushed sluggishly. And when you run, it turns into a drumming that coalesce with the heartbeat warning outside of your own to indicate whenever enemies are in the same room! It’s excellently enervating, nestled between the notes of despair and ominousness, as is its soundtrack. Which was almost entirely composed to revel in your pain, embellished by the piano accompaniment~ :) ESCAPE? O-KEY, DOOR KEY! I could care less for the mumbo jumbo bits involving chaos and Warmaiden but I must admit it can get rather dismal. Clea’s affliction can actually be treated as any hereditary, life-threatening disease. Where the maintaining, toiling for a cure is a strain on the caregivers which may result in unsavory means and secrets the children were blissfully unaware of. I thought it was poignant that, to arrive at the true end- you have to backtrack and “remember” where those uniquely carved doors were located without a map. Then get to-and-fro, hopefully in one piece… This going the extra mile also expounds on the symptoms and course of the curse. At the end of the day, it’s about the lengths family would go to for one of their own. And I always appreciate that~ :) BACK IN THE CLOSET… Is it “jumpscare free” as it advertises? You betcha, but don’t lose your marbles if you still get jitters when you see a door suddenly swing open because the audio fooled you into thinking the threat was further than they seemed! Or the demonic growls let out when they get a bead on you!? How about the way you can only see for very short distances ahead and behind you? Don’t even get me started on the peeking mechanic!! The most terrifying thing is the unceasing sense of dread and feeling of being turned against on. One moment a semi-happy, picture-perfect family with a beautiful brood. The next, a cracked frame with missing faces and anguish left stirring in the air. Last but not least, the cliffhanger of an ending. Will it pick up in Clea 2? I dunno!! Do I want to find out- yes but no~ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2589278160
[-] CONS;
:( CROAK-AND-DANGER The stealth gives Clea its individuality but it also loses credibility and singled out because of it. Sometimes you’re forced into dead ends with no hiding places, with the reaper already firmly reserving a spot for you. Other times, you can abuse the magic door portals and pass through enemies like a ghost. In a way that’s the beauty of it, but there’s also a steep curve to mastering this cat-and-mouse play~ :( WHITLOCK? MORE LIKE WIT-LOCK… I touched on the fact that structures were made to seem cold, captivity-like, because of the distant household affinities. But at the same time, I can’t excuse the design overall in which each building has needlessly long stretches of samey decorations and nothingness. Is that why so many maids are employed!? :( A BADTIME STORY~ Again, I like the minimal story conveyed and you having to earn the rest. But I can’t wiggle the screams in my face that it’s to mask there simply being not all that much else interesting to tell. Even the character dialogues are elementary with everyone exhibiting restraint. Like they know more, but just fight all instinct to not just be out with them. Not until the sequel that is…
BUGS:
x Clea’s mom randomly appears in one of the maid’s rooms facing the wall. Then teleports back to corridor. x Enemy bugs out if you enter a room at the same time as them. Takes like 5-7 seconds before it refreshes.
NITPICKS:
~ Not having the option to turn off the lantern is so triggering because it shines through closets! ~ The voice-acting is refined sounding but borders on average and mediocre.
"That’s When You Get ED!!"
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2589279506 Last Words? Stealth-ridden adventure that’s cute-as-a-button but also harbors a dark and chaotic test of skill as well as memory! Finished the story? Replay with the antes upped and score more fancy dresses~
9 / 10

A cake and best wishes to Invert Mouse for granting my wish for a key~

Don't forget to follow my curator DaRevieweD for more games!!
Clea is a game that I've been following since it was a mere concept art from the developer. At the time, I wasn't very interested in the project; mainly because the original art wasn't very beautiful (sorry XD). But then, all of a sudden, the character designer which worked with InvertMouse on his previous projects came back. And then... I saw it. The new version of that original concept art; and it looked fabolous. I was stunned; those eyes, that direct gaze at the player, almost emotionless and soulless, devoid of any life, made me think: "Wow. This... this is fantastic! Maybe it's for the best if I follow this project, it may turn into something very interesting." And man, was I right! Clea is not just a game, is not just a survival horror with BOO-JUMPYSCURE (sarcasm). Clea is a game made with PASSION and LOVE, and this can be noticed by playing through it. Every level has a different aestethic, ambience, puzzle to solve; and the enemies are, in the beginning, simple. But just to give the player the sensation that "huh, this is okay. I can make it." But then BOOM, past level 2 all changes! And that is where the trouble begins; in fact, my first death the first time I played was in level 3. Probably because of the fact that a certain character made me jump from my chair (and there are no scripted scares, remember) and lose control of the controls. Which, by the way, are, in the beginning, a little awkward (I played with my keyboard, but it is playable with a controller too, and controls can be changed in the options menu at your leisure) to use, but after a short amount of time you'll get used to it, believe me; another important thing to say is that they are responsive. Given the fact that Clea is a survival horror, responsive controls are really important, aren't they? Enemies in Clea ARE NOT STUPID. Make just a little sound, and they'll hunt you down almost immediately; there are some cases in which you'll end up cornered if you don't pay enough attention to your objects in the inventory or the enemies' routine, and your surroundings. And now, enters the most beautiful mechanic in Clea: hearing. All the game is based around hearing the footsteps of the enemies, trying to understand all the time the distance and the area in which they are. If you get spotted, you can hide, run away, or... use other methods, which I won't talk about, because it would be a spoiler. And there are various types of enemies; some common, some... let's say special. Especially at higher difficulty levels, these last ones will cause real trouble to you; you'll end up swearing, trust me. Since I don't want to go on forever writing (even if I'd like to, I love Clea), I will talk just a little about graphics and sound. I mean, aestethically the game is really good, and the sound design is obviously really good; even though when there are maybe multiple enemies nearby, judging enemies' distance can become a bit of a... chaos. He-he. There are secrets and easter eggs scattered here and there, all for you to uncover. Puzzles are well done, they're simple but effective. And I like this. There are multiple levels of difficulty, and they are: Light, Dark, Chaos. Chaos is locked at the beginning, and Light is your Normal difficulty setting. While Dark is Hard. And Chaos is... uhm... let's see, have you ever played the original God of War? Okay, now replace the word God with something like... let's see, Clea is a young girl, so, maybe... Maiden? Maiden of War; yeah, that sounds nice, doesn't it? Chaos is like God difficulty in the original God of War; you'll have little time to breath between an action and the other. Trust me. There are multiple endings, and they all are interesting and well put into the story; they're never strange or out of place. Hell, there's one which would probably be what a real person would do, it he/she was in Clea's shoes. The only bit of disappointment is that there isn't an ending which I hoped for; I even asked the developer after beating 100% Clea, and he confirmed that there isn't such an ending. Unfortunately. I'm sad :( But I'm happy at the same time, because I got a glimpse of that possible ending in a secret scene which I unlocked by pure, sheer luck. I'm not joking, it was just a matter of luck XD Sorry if this was too long, but I usually don't write reviews on games, and so I wanted this to fell special. Hope you liked it; see you around, and I hope you'll play Clea as I did \^o^ You can post a comment if you want to ask me something, by the way :) I'll be playing Clea now, there are one or two things I'd like to see again :D
Target Audience: Those who like Tension Summary: Horror is in a weird place right now for me in general in both games and movies. It's easy to look at things like Five Night's at Freddy's and some of the main stream horror titles, and realize how the jump scare has taken over the genre. You know what, that horror, it can work. FNAF is a great design in many cases. But for me, it's not a game that will get under my skin. Sure, it may make me jump, but it won't bury itself and make me tense up for periods of time. No, it's games like Clea that will make me do that. A slow but methodical psuedo stealth and puzzle game, Clea is about avoiding the horrors within the Whitlock Manasion and trying to escape the deadly monster and chaos servants with your brother in toe. You'll do that by ducking into cabinets and attempt to listen to the footsteps of servants coming at you, and let me tell you, this game has some of the best information sound design for a horror game, especially at the indie level. Learning of how close and how fast a servant is approaching is easy to understand from the game's audio, but it also expects you to figure it out on your own and to be frank, it does a great job of doing that. It's a game that keeps the pace in terms of spooks, and frankly it's a game that will actually make you creeped out without being gross. A great target for a sale. Overlooked Games Section: https://youtu.be/4jSwgqmsSmg?t=784 Lists: Positives:

Sound Design gives all the information that you need, and is one of the best directional sound systems I've seen at an indie game level.
Tension is the name of the game here: and Clea captures it.

The weird “spooky” effects legit caught me off guard and made me wonder for a good time, getting me killed once.
Colorful presentation that puts emphasis on what you need to focus on.
Captures the atmosphere of the spooky game.
Negatives:

It can be frustrating with the first sections of gameplay not knowing exactly what is going on, and not being taught directly on how to play. It's not the type of game that you can be impatient with.
Story could use a little more oompf in the first section of the game.
It won't wow you compared to other horror games, but it's not what it's trying to do
If you want more reviews/information regarding games I've reviewed, visit my curator. Honestly this game is just amazing. Not only does it keep you on edge, it keeps you wanting to play further to uncover all kinds of secrets. Probably one of my new favourites that I'll keep coming back to. Highly recommended for people who love games with a good story, or just want a general scare.
An awesome game with great voice acting, art and gameplay! Clea combines horror with stealth and puzzle gameplay. It doesn't rely on cheap, loud jump scares to terrify you. I don't play a lot of horror games but I was able to really enjoy this one. This game also allows you to customise Clea's appearance and costume which is a really neat feature if you like customisation in games. You can also unlock different dresses for Clea by completing different challenges. This game is certainly worth the price. I have played this game more often than $40 USD games.
