At first glance, it looks like a simple dungeon crawler. But as you progress, the systems and options to customize your builds opens up with surprising complexity; revealing a sprawling game of strategy and build optimization. If cute dungeon crawling with good music sounds good, then maybe give this game a try. However if optimizing and looking for the "perfect' build for your characters, along with managing stat growth seems tedious - then maybe not for you. It is a niche dungeon crawler - but for the ones this game appeals to, it is a wonderful game. edit: Mapgeon's and Rangeon music does get repetitive - I read somewhere there is a way to fix this, but currently I haven't found it.
I absolutely love the Cladun games because you get to pixel art all your characters and equipment to make the character of your dreams. The games give you so much freedom to create everything and so many ways to break the game using the systems provided when it comes to leveling and stats. They can be a bit intimidating at first and you'd wonder what you're looking at, but if you are a min-maxer this game is for you. The plot isn't really too important in these games, it's all about the dungeon runs and getting better equipment and finding crazy combos in the gear to make something genuinely overpowered. As for my views on this entry... Was so hyped to have flying characters because of the trailer. Fly over traps! Fly over negative terrains! Then I got hit by a projectile and comboed across the room while flying because while flying you get knocked back like you're jumping. 10 out of 10 experience would fly again... It's not hugely different from the old games, if you liked those, you'd enjoy this one. There are a lot of fun new gimmicks to play around with in the magic circles that were not in x2. So same classes, same gameplay loop, same everything but executed just a little bit more smoothly this time around. I highly recommend it for people who enjoyed the previous games and want more. If you are new to the series though, I don't know if you could justify the price. You could acquire a taste for them playing Cladun x2 or Sengoku which are on sale right now for a couple of dollars. Then make your decision later. It's one of those games that you play a little bit of each day to make numbers go bigger and bigger. Sometimes you get so into it, you can lose entire days.
Like Cladun X2, but with new magic circles, mobs, and rangeon mechanics.
.
This was a great play. If you don't mind the nonexistant story and just enjoy good ol' dungeon crawling, looting and optimizing surprisingly intricate build systems, this is for you. The ability to completely draw your own characters, maps and compose your own music is also a huge bonus.
I adore Cladun, and X3 continues in the series’ signature brand of niche greatness.
As Of the writing of this review. And coming from someone who played and didn't really enjoy This is sengoku[the previous entry] I'm pleased to find this game improves on mostly everything X2 and sengoku had to offer. If you enjoyed the previous entries. You'll likely enjoy this one. Alot of QOL fixes. For one, autosave and cloud backup. Theres alot i could say. But i'll just leave it here for now.
Solid!
