This is a game that doesn't know what it wants to be. While it's not the worst game I have ever played, it's just so "Bleh" in it's delivery, that I lose all interest 10 minutes into the game. They say they are leaving Early Access in June. No way in hell it will, and if it does, it will be a half-assed attempt at a game... and for almost $30.00 CAD, this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Gameplay Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NJiat9hEHA Pros - Hand-drawn cutscene (Comic Strip style) are neat - Control layout is easy enough Cons - Graphically, weak - Vehicle handling is god awful - Story & writing is subpar/ doesn't make any sense - Game has no identity
Urgh I was hoping this would be a cool little Police game that I am badly lacking in life but it’s not, it’s a weird cross between a police/racing game and simulation/arcade. The opening "mission" takes place on a race track to test your driving skills (not sure why), you than get to do various missions across the city as a police officer. This game is terrible and I know it’s in early access but at this price and they say it will only be in EA for a short time but this needs so MUCH work to turn it into a game worth buying also mission design is bland , for the first several missions you are a delivery driver, one mission suddenly had player models and a race around the race track in police vans (why) its just all over the place Pros - Hand drawn cut scenes - A police game (Kind of) - The cars have OK models Cons - Bad Graphics with many pop in issues and slowdown - Poor handling model - Terrible AI - Cars randomly stop, won't move out of way, drive into you, slam breaks on - Horrible characters with long boring cut scenes and bad dialogue - Nobody is driving the cars, no peds - Destructible scenery is strange, can’t crash through fences etc. - No GPS type directions telling you where to go - Map is terrible! - Unfinished parts like cutscenes - The text flashes across the screen and you cant read it outside of cutscenes DON'T BUY If you wanna check out my first 20 minutes, check it out below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxIYXWFegDM
Follow our curator page: IndieGems if you like and want to see more reviews like this one.
City Patrol: Police is a strange take on driving simulation and racing that doesn't really do either justice. The game is set in a set city map with a lot of open space that nice pretty nice. The game has fairly good flowing traffic and does play fairly smoothly, but the lackluster missions, story, writing, voice-acting, and general gameplay really doesn't justify its price tag. There's also not a whole lot to do overall, and it starts to feel like a chore slogging through the campaign levels after a little bit. You still need to play through those to unlock the race tracks and a few cars available in the game. There is an open map game mode where the different campaign tasks are availble plus a few other things, you can drive around and fulfill these tasks, but the flow gets cut off by the fact that the game thinks you are in a mission and tells you good job when the thing is done, and goes back to the main menu. The idea is good, the execution is so so to poor. Plus there is only single-player mode. You race against time, your old scores, or against AI and more AI. Not that they are easy or anything, and there are multiple difficulty levels you can choose when starting a race. In addition, you can turn on and off traffic for a lot of the races, which is nice. Though if one wanted to play a driving simulator on real road with other cars and maybe make a few harsh decisions, there are those dedicated driving simulators that are a lot better, not to mention cheaper. If you pay attention to the other cars, trucks, busses, and whatever else driving around, there's not a single driver in sight. So not only are you driving around in a city devoid of people on the streets, the other vehicles are also being operated by ghosts. You are supposed to have a partner riding shotgun, and he makes some comments usually when you complete missions, but if you change the views and look into your car, you will see that the driver is the only person in the car. At first the hand-drawn cartoony artwork might seem nice and a good contrast against the more realistic rendered environments, these get old after a while, because the same pictures are used again, again, and yet again, and then some more. The writing is not really all that fitting for a police squad and the dialogue need some reworking. The missions are even less exciting for a police-oriented game, though I understand that police officers are not going to work expecting a high-speed chase or otherwise thrilling to the same degree. Through thrilling or not, there's hardly any danger in this game as well. The worst thing you can do is total your car or smash someone else's vehicle. Believe me when I say this takes total dedication. It took me 8 whole minutes of trying various things to smash my car. Why did I want to do this? Because there is an achievement trophy connected to this task. This involved me driving the car off a cliff at least 50 times to accomplish.
Pricing
Too high base price of $24.99 USD. It's just not really all that fun.
Positives
+Different perspectives available, 2 different 3rd person, 2 different first person +Smooth driving +Different game modes
Negatives
-Need I say more?
Conclusion
City Patrol: Police looks interesting and plays fairly smoothly, otherwise, the game falls a bit flat. The price is too high and I cannot justify people spending time with this title.
I received the product for free. I did not receive any compensation to write this review. Crash Time didn't die for this... I'm not going to sit here, and claim the Crash Time was a masterpiece of a series because while the physics were quite good, the series was pretty mediocre when it came to it's stories, and career modes. However, City Patrol: Police somehow transcends this, being even worse in every single way possible. The main map is taken from Crash Time 4: The Syndicate. For some reason, they decided to remove ALL of the foliage and trees, leaving the map extremely empty. Plus, the story missions only take place on the Autobahn. The city portion is only there for patrols. So, we are left doing story missions on a very barren Autobahn map, while the interesting City map goes almost completely unused. For vehicles, they are directly from Crash Time 4: The Syndicate, and Crash Time 5: Undercover. They for some reason downgraded the damage significantly. The cars deform in a spiky mess, and none of the parts fall off anymore. Collisions also don't feel right as well, as cars feel weirdly heavy, and can't be pushed around as much. How can you take the best part of Crash Time, and screw it all up?!?! Now, the story. Oh boy, it sucks. It somehow has even cringier voice acting than Crash Time, and has the worst 'comic style' cutscenes EVER. There was no effort put into this story. I literally spent like 5 hours 'speeding running' the game while I livestreamed it to the Burnout Discord, and let me just say, it was painful. Supposedly, this development team bought the assets from Synetic, the developers of the Crash Time series. However just recently I found out another publisher, UniqueGames Publishing GmbH, is also claiming that they too also own all of Synetic's assets. Take it as you will, but it atleast reminded me that I still hadn't made a review for this 'game'. There is also a cool feature where after you play the game once, it kills itself, and you can not play again. Thankfully it has fixed itself but at one point it just refused to open for me. City Patrol: Police is an awful game. Its a sad example of what happens when a studio tries to make a spiritual successor when they understand NOTHING on what made Crash Time good. Avoid this game like the plague, and just buy Crash Time 2 & 3 on Steam for the same price as this piece of ♥♥♥♥.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
This game has stolen the vast majority of its assets from the game Crash Time 4: The Syndicate, also known as Alarm Fur Cobra 11: Das Syndikat within Germany. The game's assets have been stolen and repurposed in this game while also removing any trace of the cobra name. It's really disgusting that the people behind City Patrol: Police stole someone elses hard work and are profitting from it, even if Crash Time's developers are no longer around. If you are looking at this game and thinking it looks fun, just go and find Crash Time 4 on the net, or buy the DVD from eBay like I did (The German Alarm Fur Cobra version has a full English version within, and the installer is in English too)
Macht weiter so Caipirinha Games!

Neutral: - graphics. Well, it's not really bad. Just average. - physics, could be not a bad physics for 5 dollars game but this one costs 25. - sound and voice acting. About the same level as everything else - digestible. - menu looks very cheap and meh. Cons: - boring campaign. You're playing for a cop but half of your missions consists of actions that has absolutely nothing with police working. - in free roam you can catch a violators but it's made so casual so I decided better to leave this mode. - bumping physics are silly. - awful GPS navigation and road design. I failed missions several times because got lost. There're no turns on the roads, so you have to drive half of a town to find a right way. If you accidentally got in the grass, you'll probably need to restart your mission. Price: As I said before, 5 dollars should be a maximal price tag for this product.
