About
CiniCross is a dark fantasy roguelite built around nonogram puzzles (also known as Griddlers).
Descend into a cursed dungeon where every puzzle solved brings you closer to powerful enemies, and greater rewards.
The deeper you go into the dungeon, the more complex the puzzles become.
Solve procedurally generated nonograms of various grid sizes from 5x5 to 20x20. Risk grows with depth, but so do the rewards.
Each floor offers multiple paths, all leading to a deadly boss.
Every boss has a unique power that forces you to adapt your strategy and rethink how you approach nonograms. Along the way, discover shops, campfires, and other locations to aid your journey.

Collect powerful artifacts and items that change how you play. Automatically fill columns, increase rewards, slow down time, and more.
Combine their effects to create devastating synergies during your run.
Every mistake, every wasted second comes at a cost.
Death is inevitable, but each run is a new opportunity. Start over, gather new treasures, refine your strategy, and manage your time carefully to go further than before.

I love this game, but hate the gameplay after you save and exit. When I save and exit, I expect my game to keep the powerups and timer as it was after I left. When I save and exit, it keeps my power ups, but the time saved does not carry over and it resets it instead. When continuing from a high floor after saving and quitting, you will run out of time, which leads to losing health and wasting your power ups. if the intention of this game was to beat it in one 'sitting' then you shouldnt have the ability to keep your power ups or even save. Just end the run because you will constantly lose your saved game.
Started out fun but the timer is enough to cause stress. The boss who kept removing tile solutions were just annoying.
A lot of fun, if you like Picross-style puzzles. I thought I was pretty good at them and getting kind of bored of clones, but the additional mechanics in this add whole new levels to the gameplay. It felt a bit like starting all over, in a good way.
Will recommend because there aren't that many enjoyable games with nonograms. However, the game felt heavily skewed towards rng rather over nonogram solving skills. Some of the classes are a lot harder than others, felt aimless and time consuming at the end. Finished the whole game regardless.
For now I can't recommend because you will have a mix of frustration and addiction. The game needs quite a lot of polishing in terms of QoL, UX, bugs for the Steam Deck and balancing. the game will get better but wait another semester or more. the main issue is that you cannot save during a run. So you have to fully clear a dozen of grids before being allowed to save your progression at the end of a level (similar to a chapter in Binding of Isaac). So the next issue is a follow up to that lack of saving option: you are more incline to play on your Steam Deck since you can stop the game and resume at any time. But the user experience and inputs for the Steam Deck are awful and come with some bugs which can ruin a run (overlapping item and unusable slot). Second issue, similar to the saving one: when you launch a run, you cannot change anything in the options. you need to exit and restart a run if you want to change the music volume of instance. If your display has an issue, and you need to change the resolution, you shall restart. About the UI/UX, when actually gaming on a grid you can’t pause to check your inventory: icons are displayed but if you want to refresh your memory about what an item does and so what is triggering its power, you have to wait until the end of your grid… or mouse over the item and loose those precious seconds. Perfect segway to the next issue: difficulty due to the timer. The game can ask you to fulfil huge grids and the game is designed so that when you need to fulfil such grids, you have many passive items which will be triggered and auto complete 2/3 of the grid in the end. But you also can have them earlier in your run, so with way less item: that’s a huge waste of time and very likely an end of run even before you play the grid. The game has a pacifist option which disable entirely the death by the timer. And then the game shift from too hard to very easy. and so many other issues: no restart button, loosing a run redirects you on the main page and not on the “Launch run” page, when loosing you can’t skip the animation… generally speaking it feels like the game had to released at a certain day, but lot’s of Quality related issues were not resolved… but then I saw that a developer said in February that a proper Save system will be implemented and here we are more than 4 months after without it. So the game will get better but wait another semester or more.
I was enjoying the game but the lastes changes ruined it. I already had problems with infinite mode as a thing that exists and it eels the the exp mostlly comes from there I hope they make more changes to fix the game
Hubris is a noun that means "an extreme arrogance or unwarranted self-confidence". In fiction, hubris is often the hallmark of a tragic hero whose sordid tale is one of strength and glory, with pride coming before a fall. It could also be a villainous trait, for one whose successes in the early acts lead to an inattentive state wherein he is hoisted on his own petard in the finale. Hubris takes many forms. Consumers of fiction often point to hubris as an enjoyable theme to see, if not its mechanism of action, the results of, when critiquing literature. Outside of fiction one might have hubris, or be hubristic, if they believe something about themselves, such as "I can solve the nonogram puzzles in CiniCross without using any of the Roguelike elements which the game provides me", or "I am able to solve the level 5 puzzle on the first floor of the dungeon in under three minutes", that is provably untrue. They might have reason to believe or evidence to suggest that their confidence is warranted, such as "I solved every puzzle in Mario's Picross for the Game Boy and Mario's Super Picross for the Super Famicom", or perhaps "I've done hundreds of puzzles in 2025 Picross Game Of The Year, Squeakcross: Home Squeak Home". As with the heroes and villains that engaged in hubris in classical and renaissance fiction, a nonogram aficionado or enthusiast who chooses to play a nonogram-themed roguelike dungeon-crawling puzzle game like CiniCross may place gravely mistaken faith in his capabilities and be subjected to firm embarrassment leading to an ironic fate, usually resulting in his death. on an unrelated note using the 25 block fill item on floor 1 isn't a good idea
I suck at nonograms, i usually take 6 minutes to do a 10x10, but this game made me love them! it also doesn't hold back as you are pressured by time to do them. The game has a tutorial that does a decent job at explaining the basics of nonograms, but if you wanna do 10x10 or 15x15 nonograms, which the game will throw at you eventually by difficulty 2+, you will eventually have to look for outside materials for tips on how to do them fast. i just wish there was a practice mode with no time pressure and disabled achievements, but regardless you can always practice on https://www.puzzle-nonograms.com/ to get better timings. As a roguelike this game is pretty good as well, slay the spire structure dungeons, items either make you get more: Time,Hp, or solve blocks easier. But dont be deceived, this game requires more of your skill than luck when doing these. If you suck at nonograms, i recommend unlocking the soldier class as he is the most forgiving class (most hp more mistakes and his legendary sword solves 1/4 of the nonograms by itself)
