I assumed anything this ♥♥♥♥♥♥-looking must have been made by a single person, and I wanted to support indie devs. Turns out Kemco farted it out and abandoned it. There are vague indications that someone involved in developing it cared about its quality, but they're pretty well buried under mediocre combat and tone-deaf writing.

This is one of the better Kemco RPGs. The fantasy military setting is cool, and the game's systems work well enough. I enjoyed the ability to choose different jobs for the characters. The game was never hard, but it wasn't as brainlessly easy as some Kemco RPGs are. However, this game has a REALLY high random encounter rate. Even back in the day, most RPGs didn't have this many random encounters. Thankfully, the combat system is sort of fun. The story is fine, and the story scenes are mercifully short.
Always loved this game, still a great play!
I bought this on mobile and finish it as it quickly became one of my few favorite Kemco titles, its not that deep and great if you compare it to known RPG back in the SNES era but this RPG is still solid for an indie title. What I love about it are the characters, the gameplay sucks but still enjoyable just that the random encounter is too high not to mention the side story dungeons are hateful. On to Topic: Chrome Wolf is about a story of warfare, Humans and Unicornians live in harmony with a declaration but was never met and so started a civil war due to discrimination and slavery, story starts with Kruz a soldier along with his friends then comes the first mission where they saw a slaughter of a village leaving him questioning if it was right or wrong. What I like about Chrome wolf is that characters aren't OP since they use logic, it shows quickly from the start of the game, you refuse to listen the order to kill a villager? Then off with your head for insubordination. It also doesn't shy with dark themes about the war from slavery, experiments and responsibilities. MC is that dense straight proper guy but in fact he is quite likeable due to the colorful cast of members he has on his unit, from Olga the girl who's fiance he killed who hates his guts, to Gardel the playboy who has a dark past yet a big bro, Williot the cheerful private who always think positive, Noelle the genius girl, Graham the rival childhood friend, Major Bartz the father figure, Prince Yuri the innocent Pacifist. Unlike other Kemco title, at least character development doesn't feel forced here and the characters are really likeable and not just random characters
who you kill, probably why the ending felt even more impactful since they had no choice left even though they all wanted to live yet feels really like live soldiers just wanting to return back alive.
Favorite moments?
Probably the ending part, was surprised when I first played it that this kind of ending exist for a Kemco title, this was the only ending and there was no happy, bad or true ending, everyone can't be happy. I was really and deeply moved seeing the last part seeing everyone die one after the other but in the end manage to fulfill their final duty especially Gardel's last stand along with Graham's death. On another note, I usually hate Olga's character the most since I hate FMC who hurt MC just for plot but the story doesn't really portray it as harmful in fact each time she spite the MC everyone scolds her which should be right which then mellows into adult professionalism later down the line which led to the ending, at least the childhood friends reunited I guess.
Main Key-points : -Good game for a short time. -Your main urge to play is the story not the gameplay for this title. -Gameplay has a loop (Auto attack as such for grinding.) -This port can go full screen but not fully stretch. -Controller supported. -Tank battles are fun and the customization it has so don't neglect since its mandatory in certain story. -If you started to hate the game, hate the gameplay since it doesn't do much but auto battles using normal hitting. Last note : I finish it within 24hrs (11 hours of game time), goes to show how short it is and its not even a straight play, had to do five sessions for it. Get it on sale and try it if your curious, it might make you feel angry, empty or happy.
Very nice game to kill some time and story was actually good for what it was, highly recommend it.
