While many games open with breathtaking cinematics, ChromaGun 2 takes a far more subtle approach. At its core, it is a puzzle game that gradually introduces platforming elements, dispatching worker bots to chase you and keep you on your toes. The mechanics rely heavily on subtractive colour theory, which typically applies to physical media like paint, ink and dye. The game utilises the traditional primary colours of red, yellow and blue. Because like colours attract, you must quickly memorise how to mix these primary shades to manipulate the environment. Alongside the painting mechanic, you can jump short distances, drop from significant heights and sprint to stay out of harm's way. Success requires a blend of logic, spatial reasoning, sequential problem-solving and the tactical use of your surroundings to evade threats. Aesthetically, the initial level design is starkly grey. This design choice can be jarring at first, given the modern trend of captivating players with instantly vibrant environments. However, it makes perfect sense for a game where colour itself is the primary tool. You are responsible for bringing vibrancy to the world, and this stark contrast provides excellent visual clarity once you begin painting the rooms. Navigating this 3D puzzle maze requires a strong sense of spatial awareness. Fortunately, strategically placed windows allow you to peer into adjacent rooms, aiding both your problem-solving and overall orientation. The audio design is a standout feature. The upbeat soundtrack is immensely enjoyable, providing the momentum needed to completely relax into the gameplay. It is mixed a little quietly by default, so it is highly recommended to increase the volume in the settings. Once you sync with the beat, you quickly find your rhythm, breaking down the barrier between player and game until time seemingly stands still. Complementing the music is the excellent, natural sound design. The game features impressive spatial audio on the PlayStation 5. You can clearly hear the clatter of office equipment and the distinct sound of doors opening, which is incredibly useful for detecting threats approaching from behind. Once you master the mechanics, the gameplay loop becomes highly compelling. ChromaGun 2 is available on both Steam and PlayStation 5. Having played on both platforms, I can confirm it runs flawlessly and looks identical on each. The interface is remarkably simple, requiring only about ten inputs. I personally prefer the console experience, as a controller feels much better suited to the traversal sequences. The level design remains consistently refreshing, with changing biomes offering welcome visual variety. Furthermore, the difficulty curve is balanced exceptionally well, ensuring you rarely find yourself completely stuck. I highly recommend ChromaGun 2. It is precisely the kind of game you will want to replay for the sheer nostalgia and the satisfying realisation of your own acquired skill.
Incredibly annoying game show host type character is constantly talking to you in a very annoying voice, and trying and failing to be funny. The humor is very try-hard and doesn't land for me at all, and it's much worse than if it wasn't there to begin with.
Strongly recommend this to any fans of Portal and Portal-likes! Puzzles were really creative, nothing ever felt like it was too overly complex to solve, and the game stuck with it's core mechanics throughout while keeping them feeling fresh. This is a massive improvement over the original ChromaGun! Honestly one of my top games of 2026 so far!
Nope
Yeah actually pretty good! The portal comparison is inevitable, and while I would never say this is *as* clean or *as* novel, it still is a pretty dang well made, interesting and, at times, a fairly challenging puzzle game. Definitely worth your time if you like the puzzle platformer genre
It's very very good. Puzzles are clever and fun. Production values are top notch. This game comes pretty close to capturing Portal 2 vibes. It even introduces a type of co-op mechanism where you get to direct a NPC companion to help you solve puzzles. There is some platforming but nothing too tricky that requires great dexterity or sense of timing. The majority of the challenge comes from just figuring where to go / what to do. I think it is less challenging than Portal 2 when it comes to dexterity or platforming. There were a couple of places where I got stuck for a long time (more than an hour each I am embarrassed to say) on main puzzles that I eventually gave up on and watched the video walkthrough for, and then couldn't believe how I didn't think of that. The game is also quite long, and I didn't even go for all the optional secrets. There are unfortunately a few small bugs - namely robots can get stuck in door frames which requires restarting a level. Fortunately, after a forced restart, getting back to where you were doesn't take as long as the first time because you know how to solve the puzzles.
Considerably improved sequel to Chromagun, with just a sprinkle of new mechanics and a new facelift from the original game. The game claims at the beginning that this game isn't meant to test your reflexes, and with very few exceptions, that holds true. At least it doesn't feel as egregious as how it felt in the first game. Apart from that, some of the puzzles were a delight to solve, whilst some really did get me scratching my head. An all round comfortable difficulty. There were at least one or two instances of me softlocking myself to the point where I had to restart the level, but nothing too bad for the regular player, I would say. The story, following right after the first game, centers around the team-up and subsequent conflict between Richard and Mildred, and it was a fun dynamic to witness, similar to the likes of Wheatly and Glad0s from Portal 2. I was led on through previews to believe the multiverse aspect of this game would play a much larger role as opposed to being mostly situated within the final chapter, but I understand that's probably not what the developers intended entirely seeing where the focus of the story went. Sound direction is good and the game generally held out with good performance on my machine. Not too many complaints here. Even though this game runs on Unreal Engine, I don't think it should be too demanding. If you liked the first Chromagun for its colour-based puzzle mechanics, you'll find something to like here as well. It's a generally well-rounded puzzle game, try it if you like, but I do recommend it.
What a AMAZING game! The caracters were funny and so many different levels Wauw! Some levels were pretty hard thinking but i loved it. The music is great and I loved the superliminal and the stanley parable reference. WELL DONE!
