Was buying to play with a friend but cannot invite him (although we both have the game) Otherwise game looks pleasant.
Nothing royal in it. Just some chess riddles without explanation or teachings and a coin-based payment system to get hints. Atleast teach some openings, jargon, techniques...
Chess Royal is a digital adaptation of the classic strategy board game developed by Inlogic Software and published by Silesia Games. Rather than reinventing chess with dramatic new mechanics, the game focuses on delivering a clean and accessible digital version of the centuries-old game that can be enjoyed by both newcomers and experienced players. Its design philosophy centers on simplicity, ease of use, and offering a handful of helpful features that allow players to practice, learn, and enjoy chess without needing the complexity often found in more competitive chess software. At its foundation, Chess Royal preserves the traditional rules that define chess as one of the most respected strategy games in history. Players control the familiar set of pieces—king, queen, rooks, bishops, knights, and pawns—each with their unique movement patterns and strategic value. The ultimate goal remains unchanged: to trap the opponent’s king in a position where it cannot escape capture, achieving checkmate. Because the game relies on the authentic rules of chess, the depth of gameplay comes entirely from the player’s decisions, long-term planning, and ability to predict an opponent’s strategy several moves in advance. One of the most important aspects of Chess Royal is its adjustable artificial intelligence system. The game includes multiple AI difficulty levels designed to accommodate players with different levels of experience. Beginners can face less challenging opponents that allow them to learn the movement of pieces and basic tactics at a comfortable pace. More advanced players can raise the difficulty to face opponents capable of executing more complex strategies. This scalability helps make the game suitable both as a learning environment for new players and as a training platform for those who already understand the fundamentals of chess. The single-player experience benefits from this flexible difficulty structure because it allows players to gradually improve their skills. As players become more confident with openings, mid-game strategies, and endgame techniques, they can challenge stronger AI opponents that require deeper planning and more careful positioning. This steady progression helps replicate the feeling of improving over time, which is an essential part of chess mastery. In addition to the AI matches, Chess Royal includes a local multiplayer mode that allows two players to compete against each other on the same device. This feature recreates the traditional experience of sitting across a physical chessboard with an opponent. For friends or family members who enjoy board games together, this mode provides a simple and enjoyable way to share the game without requiring multiple devices or internet connectivity. The ability to quickly start a local match adds to the game’s accessibility and reinforces the social aspect that has always been part of chess culture. Another valuable component of the game is its puzzle system. Chess Royal includes a collection of tactical puzzles designed to train players in recognizing common strategic patterns. These puzzles often present specific board positions where the player must find the correct sequence of moves to achieve checkmate or gain a decisive advantage. Solving these challenges requires careful analysis and encourages players to think critically about positioning, piece coordination, and tactical opportunities. The inclusion of daily puzzles further expands the training aspect of the game. Each day introduces a new challenge that players can attempt to solve, offering fresh situations that test different strategic ideas. This system encourages regular play and gives players a reason to return frequently to practice their skills. For those who enjoy improving their understanding of chess tactics, these puzzles provide an engaging way to develop pattern recognition and problem-solving abilities. Visually, Chess Royal adopts a minimalist design approach that prioritizes clarity and functionality. The chessboard and pieces are rendered in a straightforward style that makes them easy to distinguish during gameplay. Animations remain subtle and smooth, ensuring that moves are clearly visible without unnecessary distractions. While the game does not include elaborate graphical themes or dramatic visual effects, the simplicity of the presentation helps maintain focus on the strategic elements of the game. The interface design also contributes to the game’s accessibility. Menus are organized logically, making it easy to start a match, adjust difficulty levels, or access puzzle modes without navigating complicated systems. This user-friendly approach ensures that players can jump into the game quickly, which is particularly important for those who want to enjoy short matches or quick training sessions. Sound design in Chess Royal is intentionally understated. Gentle background music accompanies the gameplay, creating a calm and focused atmosphere that fits the thoughtful nature of chess. Sound effects for moving pieces and capturing opponents provide subtle feedback that enhances the experience without becoming intrusive. The audio presentation complements the strategic tone of the game rather than attempting to dominate it. Despite its solid execution, Chess Royal does have some limitations when compared to more advanced chess platforms. The game focuses primarily on providing a straightforward chess experience, which means it lacks some of the deeper features found in professional chess software. Competitive online multiplayer systems, advanced analysis tools, and detailed performance statistics are not major components of the game. The visual customization options are also relatively limited. While the board and pieces are functional and clear, players who enjoy highly detailed 3D boards or customizable themes may find the presentation somewhat basic. However, the simplicity of the visuals also ensures that the gameplay remains easy to read and accessible on a variety of devices. Where Chess Royal truly succeeds is in offering a dependable and easy-to-use platform for enjoying the timeless game of chess. It captures the essence of the classic board game while providing helpful tools for learning and practice. The adjustable AI opponents, puzzle challenges, and local multiplayer mode combine to create a well-rounded experience that can serve both casual players and those looking to improve their skills. Ultimately, Chess Royal functions as a reliable digital chess companion rather than a revolutionary reinterpretation of the game. Its straightforward design, accessible features, and emphasis on traditional gameplay make it a welcoming entry point for newcomers while still offering enough challenge to keep experienced players engaged. For anyone looking for a clean and uncomplicated way to play chess on a computer, Chess Royal delivers a satisfying version of one of the greatest strategy games ever created. Rating: 8/10
[EDIT: After finishing the game, I realized it's impossible to platinum the trophy because one of the achievements is malfunctioning.] Well... I think this game can be worthwhile for passing the time and get some archievements, but there are many things that could be fixed, and which are not executed as well as in other chess platforms. The game has 10 bot levels. Levels 1 to 8 are easy for an intermediate player. I had around a 1450 rating on chessdotcom with a peak rating of 1670 and I had no difficulty with the level 1 to 7 bots. With a real challenge in the level 8 bot. And I struggled a lot in the level 9 bot. So I believe that the bots 1-9 in this game can be good for beginners or players with up to a 1700/1800 rating. Level 10 bot, however, ist REALLY HARD. Maybe really almost a master level. I find it impossible to beat, for me, without use the hints and the option to undo moves. The game offers 1000 puzzles. Which is a considerable number. And it is undoubtedly motivating to practice puzzles to get the archievements. But there are some problems with these puzzles. To give an example: Puzzle 80 (fen = 1rbq1r2/p2pbp1k/p1p2p1p/3PpN2/4P3/PPN5/2P2PPP/R2Q1RK1 w - - 0 1) has three different solutions for checkmate in 3. However, the game only allows one of the three solutions. And I imagine there are other puzzles with problems. I paid R$ 2.09 (0.38 USD) and I think it's okay to get achievements in a relaxing way and pass the time with something I enjoy. But in fact, although there isn't much chess here on Steam, there are several free platforms with quite advanced options, which means that the games here end up being only for niche players who want to platinum the game.
Best Chess game here in Steam. No doubt it was freaking awesome!! Worth the money I spent. 10/10 for me
