This seems to be some kind of "rogue lite" game? You have a safe function (even Quicksafe) but when you load it you still start from the beginning of the level having to do everything again. Right in one of the very first missions - think it was the next one after getting your base: I always take my sweet time to search everything for hidden documents or other secrets. But it seemed that after a few minutes the game spawned in a very strong special enemy stalking me the whole time (beaming right into my back). If you like this kind of ♥♥♥♥: be happy! This has a nice atmosphere and mystery elements but I want an ocean of clear water between me and any game that will not save progress in a level or let me explore to my hearts content.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I waited for multiple years after release to get this game on a steep discount on Fanatical before trying it as I'd heard mixed things. The game has a tremendous amount of effort and polish to it - the game looks very good and performance is broadly really good as well, but the core gameplay and game feel just doesn't feel complete. If I could sum this game up in a sentence, imagine if you took the Memory Den level in Fallout 4 and interspersed it with inventory micromanagement and occasionally a far cry 3 outpost raid. Although a bit meanspirited, I do think that it adequately sums up the experience. I think that the game suffers from dev-tunnel vision, where they kept building and building and building upon a premise or vision but never stopped and looked back to see if it made sense or if it was fun. The core game itself is simple. You want to go do a big heist to find your dead wife (yes, it is a dead wife game) but to do that you need to do a bunch of busywork missions that are randomly generated, build a base which restricts progress, then recruit other people to help get more resources to expand your base. The issue is, that this is just not fun. The game clearly takes inspiration from STALKER and METRO, but doesn't seem to learn any of the lessons from them. The metro games are pseudo open world but it keeps you moving on to progress a very strong story, and Stalker is truly open world interspersed with objectives that you eventually get around to doing because exploring the zone is so compelling. In both series, gunplay and exploration are seriously good. Unfortunately, Chernobylite falls down very early on with movement and combat that just never feels right, it's like uncanny valley. I think it has to do with the depth of the crouch, sway distance and the speed at which you hit them with no momentum, it's like if you took the original DOS DOOM and added a button that instantly halved your viewmodel height or instantly shoved you two feet to the left or right with no concern for feel. The exploration doesn't really exist, there are no real areas of interest in maps beyond "hey that's a real thing in Chernobyl, hey that's the radioactive digger bucket from Chernobyl". The maps serve as set dressing for you to run around, hit M2 with your scanner and run around picking up highlighted objects, then stare at the Skyrim Compass at the top of the map to wander in a straight line to the next point of interest. The game is just... boring. There's nothing really going for it, nothing that makes me feel strongly any type of way. You do your first mission and that's just how everything feels. I think the game clearly lacked some form of direction. The game should be composed the complete other way around, spending 90% of your time out in missions and only 10% back at base, but at that point you could just play STALKER GAMMA and have the exact same experience but with higher weapon diversity, more interesting enemies and mechanics, and a dynamic world that is able to give that sublime sense of horror that Chernobylite is clearly going for. Don't get me wrong, I like open ended atmospheric games with horror elements, and I've played a dozen of them and look back on them fondly. Playing Chernobylite felt like your brain fogging over when the last hour of your workday felt like it was stretching out to infinity. Keep going, keep trying to see if things will click, but it felt like I was doing chores hoping for the game to become fun. Overall I wouldn't pick this game up at all. Even on a super deep sale on Fanatical where I got this game for the equivelant of £3, I still somehow feel like I have wasted my money. I would just get METRO Exodus.
Story is a bit weak. AI Sucks(really bad) even on insane difficulty it's easy. Some Missions are really repetitive. Voice acting is nice except one side/teammate character. There are some positives but it gets stale very quickly. Had to push myself to even finish the game. Overall middle of the road game that needed issues fixed but make sure and purchase the sequel. I'm sure they won't make the same mistakes.
This game is simple, fun, and you're able to jump in and out. However, if you run the game with too high of modern equipment, the game will freeze if you alt-tab.
