Cheese Moon

This is one of my new favorite games ever. After completing the game, I have more to note below. I'll give a quick pros and cons list, starting with the cons. Cons: - There were 2 or 3 levels (out of 100) in the game that were significantly more difficult than the rest, and they were not boss levels. I'd say 3 hours of my 7.6 were spent on one very hard level, but it was all very possible with some determination. - There is not a huge range in how you can make up your team since certain worlds require you to use certain rabbits and there is a heavy need for defence rabbits. You can grind a bit to over-level rabbits, but grinding can be a bit tedious with skipping story segments and some randomized level features very late in the game. Pros: - I love this game!!!! That's not a pro, but it's just so so good! It's cute, full of adorable and fun characters (my favorite is PB), and it's overall well balanced. So much charm. Everyone needs to play Cheese Moon!! - Characters! There is a wide range of rabbits (about 2 per world) you meet throughout the game. Somehow, with the short amount of dialogue, everyone feels solidly fleshed out, interesting, and unique. Their simple character designs are charming and fit their personalities/stories as well. - Art! If you love pixel art or even just mildly appreciate it, Cheese Moon has some of the most beautiful I've seen. The pink/purple/yellow/green-teal color scheme keeps things consistent throughout the game while adding a unique and adorable feeling to everything it touches. The pixel are is fantastically shaded, creating depth to every enemy, world map, menu, and more! - Gameplay! The gameplay consists of creating a team of 5 rabbits based around their individual skills. You consider how they work together and how much you enjoy using their skills. There is a solid balance between defense and offensive rabbits, as well as some other interesting skills. You can set the team to go through the level on auto, half, or fully manual. Auto spawns the rabbits and sets of their skills for you, but it allows you less control over timing of skills. Half spawns the rabbits for you, but has you use the skills at your own pace. Manual has you spawning the rabbits and setting off their skills yourself. You can level up your rabbits to increase their damage and how many can spawn at one time. You get money for leveling them up at the end of a level, whether you successfully clear it or not. Overall simple, fun, and well balanced. - Balance! You get a large amount of cash when you fail a level, so you can use that cash to upgrade your rabbits. This means you get quite a bit of cash over time without having to grind a lot. As levels go on, you get larger sums of cash to make up for the larger amount it takes to level characters. This means that characters you get later in the game can be brought up to speed level-wise without replaying levels for cash. Progression feels natural and rewarding, with few difficult challenges in the road. - Story and Pacing! This story is great for those who have short attention spans (me (and probably not you if you read all this)). It is sprinkled throughout levels without ever being too long. There is a lot of simple animation and humor to keep the story bits fresh. The game almost tricks you into loving its characters and world because of how smoothly the story is woven into the gameplay. The story is nothing crazy, but I personally thought it was cute and fit the rest of the game pleasantly! TLDR: Cons - One or two difficulty spikes, team variability. Pros - Great characters, art, and gameplay, well balanced mechanics, and a well paced story.
