CHAQS is an instructive CTF (Capture The Flag) game that performs the basic functions of an operating system. While it meets your expectations from an operating system to a certain extent with the applications it contains, CHAQS progresses in the direction of more challenges in terms of gameplay.

If you like Hacknet or Exapunks but want something with a little more oomph this is the thing
On the fence..... I am seeing mixed reviews about this game and understanding more and more of what this actually is starting to look like, I am getting into IT and wanted something that could almost be a playground with the dopamine release of a game through a verified company such as STEAM. However, the more I continue to dive into the command line some of the commands are not recognizable and scratch my head not knowing why some of these commands that are used today are not reflecting what should be in here. Keep in mind I am wanting to sharpen the edge from this, while enjoying a playground POV. I think its just something that is just questioning if I should keep it or not and honestly I'm just going to return this due to the mix emotions I have on this, and not want to waste time on something that is going to potentially teach/frustrate me on the wrong things that are used in todays age of what is actually used.
It's a great game, I hope they keep updating it and releasing new content. I recommend it for people who want to start with CTF and Ethical Hacking.
I'm giving the game a nod, yep it's getting a recommendation. This is from a small dev. team that worked hard to produce a really good hacking/programming type game. it's solid and it works. It's too good and lacks to many reviews to have any bad PR. However! I don't recommend it for new comers to the genre. I'm a green horn to these types myself, and I think the difficulty curve is just plain to high to be enjoyable as "a game" especially for those in a similar situation. So Que the march of insufferable fanatics that will say "STFU Switch and git gud!" yeah I know, I get it. All I can say to that is your princess is in another castle. The entry level challenges here are pretty basic and ramp up accordingly, but without a starter tutorial beyond the entry level challenges, I found it more frustrating then enjoyable. I can appreciate the "learn by doing" mentality but I've found a few of the challenges particularly painful - not because of the ask but, because it's wording left me out in left field. There are a few challenges early on I could complete easily enough on any Linux system, but because of the game's environment and available commands in the terminal it left me scratching my head, trying to figure out how does the dev want me to finish the challenge rather then just finishing the challenge. I could overlook this if there was a bit more "starter guidance" some kind of tutorial that says "hey when your asked for "XYZ" this is what we are looking for..." but without that, the game is more of a capture the flag sand box sim then actual game. This issue compounds because there is no walk through or guides for it. I can understand how that might ruin the challenge for some, but for myself having a reference to be like oh ah-ha! would really be appreciated. (Maybe an in game "hint" feature? idk.) Now, this could be chalked up to my " I'm here to learn, not be tested" approach to these types of games, as to why my experience didn't measure up. But, at the end of the day I felt that the challenges I struggled through to accomplish didn't leaving me feeling rewarded as much as frustrated owing to the way they were presented. That's just my two cents. euros, or whatever... I'm putting this one back on shelf for now, until my personal skill level is more of a match. Hopefully this long winded series of run on ranting sentences helped some of you make a decision as to buy or not.
This game is quite nice. Esp for the 1$ price that it was. The only thing that could improve. Being able to resize notepad box window. Run more than one terminal. Otherwise def worth.
Very good and fun game, nice developers and likeminded coummity. 10/10
