Great Game, i love it very much, it combines many good aspect from my favorite games and delivered it in a unique space theme three kingdom=esque conquest game
Love this game. It's old-timey, and there are some clunky things, but that really just adds to the charm. - Kle.
My completion run of reviews for the indie Chaos games continues, in almost sort of a backwards fashion to how I played them. Now with CG1 & CG2 the latter is essentially a polished version of the game as a direct follow-up, taking the experience gained in development and putting out something further refined. That's not to say 1 was bad, just that 2 was a natural improvement over time. It is also interesting seeing the development of the plot between the two games with some characters/factions falling to the chaos or changing station between the two (would be quite exciting to see how things would further develop in a potential CG3) Looking forward to Chaos Front.
This game has just the right amount of stuff going on for me to have a good time. The larger scale strategy stuff isn't all that involved. You have a few things you need to manage to get your resources, there are some technology that you can research and there's also a very simple diplomacy layer. Other reviews have mentioned that enemy AI during the fleet battles is 'cheating' in that exactly knows where you are, however this also means that it's fairly predictable, and thus exploitable. It also helps that you can re-start battles, in case they go wrong. However, you cannot save during a battle, and every now and then, you're in situation where things just aren't working and everything just takes a long time. At least if you're like me and don't like loosing half your fleet in three turns, just because you made slight mistake. Also the game itself kind of unravels towards the end, as you get more and more resources and at some point there isn't really all that much to do, but spin the clock, until that last faction is finally okay with you just taking their planets. So yeah, Chaos Galaxy is a bit of a rough one, but I still have a good time with it, because it is just simple enough to keep my brain going, each fleet admiral has a nice character bio that gives them a specific context for the larger setting, and sometimes all you want is a space opera game where you can be part in a weird imperial succession struggle.
Straightforward 4x game with excellent tactical fights and great random events/storyline. Not a lot of micromanagement. Many different factions that shape how your game will play out and the overall story. Highly recommended!
For what feels to be a fairly low budget english-adapted game, there are a lot of great elements. The space combat can be challenging, with a lot of units/abilities to work with. Definitely recommend using the autofight option more, as the fights can be repetitive after a while if you are looking to win. Be prepared to take your time if you want to win, or play smarter than I did. There are a few UI quirks, but you get your tactics, turn-based monies worth
