About
Cataclysm: The Last Generation is a single-player turn-based post-apocalyptic survival game. Based on the all-time classic Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, The Last Generation tells the story of a world where the dead walk, alien horrors stalk the land, and the fabric of reality as we know it has come undone. Despite all this, a few unlucky souls yet survive, and whether the last generation of humanity is destined to die off, or to become something fit to survive in this brave new world is up to you.
TLG's primary aim is to preserve Cataclysm's depth and respect for plausibility while refining what it has always done best as a game, foregrounding character progression and immersive life sim elements in a world that will put your survival skills to the test. Dig through the wreckage of shadowy government conspiracies to uncover the truth about the Cataclysm, form your own band of survivors, and adapt to the myriad threats by expanding your arsenal, installing military-grade bionics, or mutating into your own kind of monster.

So many things to do. So many things to learn. Where does one begin to understand how royally screwed I am when I open the door to my death.
an incredible fork of an incredible game
I have 100s of hours outside of steam in both Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead and this fork The Last Generation. Both can be played for free and all forks of Cataclysm have great things to offer and should be supported! Cataclysm (Dark days ahead) is one of the most iconic turn-based survival ASCII games in the same way Dwarf Fortress is for colony simulators. If you are new to Cataclysm in general, skip down below for a synopsis. This fork, The Last Generation, is a focus on gritty survival, tough combat and common sense game play. You FEEL like you're in an apocalypse; there's little food, brutal monsters and a punishing world. You will die, and you will come back for more. Yet, it feels balanced and fair. The odds are stacked up against you, but you can almost always understand why you died, what you did wrong. It was almost always a choice you made, a risk you took, that failed, as opposed to just bad luck. Cataclysm in general, has one of the best crafting systems ever developed. The combat system is interesting and in depth. The turn based system makes has you biting your nails during times of danger, hoping you have time to dash away or escape that grab. I vibe with this fork because it feels a little more grounded and gritty (how grounded can a game about zombies and extra-dimensional horrors really be?) but there's others to try out as well! For Cataclysm newbies: Cata is set in the near future (basically modern day with some fringe cybernetics and robots that exist in world). The world has gone to absolute ♥♥♥♥. The dead rise, everyone lost their minds but only a few recovered, animals and insects are mutating and dimensional portals opened brining in horrors beyond comprehension. Typically, you're just a dude, trying to survive. Good luck!

A good Oregon-like
I'm really glad this fork exists. Basegame DDA went in a direction I didn't care for thematically, and the alternative popular fork seemed like too far of a backswing. I tend to agree (or at least see the logic) with the Dev's reasoning for making changes to systems and they communicate with the playerbase well.
This game is crazy and very in-depht, the developer of this fork (Worm Girl) works on it constantly, if you're looking for a kinda realistic survival experience this is brutal!
Every single character I've made has died before the first day Only recently have I had a character survive up to day 2
I've been playing Cataclysm for well over a decade and definitely have thousands of hours in it pre-Steam release. I haven't been a big fan of where DDA was going, so I stopped playing a couple years ago. Found out about this, did some research, decided to buy it. It was very worth it and I'm happy to be supporting a smaller dev.
Difficult and satisfying
good fork, decided to support the dev even if some of their actions are disagreeable
