Yes! P.S. The people complaining about stalemates don't know how to play chess. The rules are free on chess.com
Game is peak but why the hell the UI look like a crappy mobile game. Big giant ugly ass buttons just look awful. I want to enjoy the chess but have two giant distractions to my top left. Would like to see that all reworked but otherwise cool game. Only downside is I wanna play as the strays during campagin. I care for a feral colony and wanna represent my rough livin pookies not the posh kitties. Also multiplayer filters are way too restrictive it's gonna be a tiny playerbase just give us the option to play against anyone
Awesome little game made with care. Had a blast playing! I don't know very complex moves or plays but managed to win a couple of matches. The animations are very funny and the fast forward click button let's you blitz through when you want to try out something that involves a lot of moves. Overall the presentation is fun and charming. Would love to play it on the go. Hopefully a switch port is on the way.
Less than an hour into this game I have 2 takeaways: 1. Wow what a fun twist on chess especially if you like cats 2. The MMR in this game seems very off, its rather my Chess.com MMR is really low or the CPU skill is way off as I beat one bot in 3 moves at 500 MMR, and beat the 1000 MMR bot in less than 5 min, which is just surprising for me as I'm 1110 MMR. Overall fun game, get it on sale to save a few bucks.
As someone who's always felt intimidated by chess, I find this to be so much fun! It's beginner friendly for people who have never played or have been afraid to play chess. The campaign is very fun and the online pvp is pretty good so far.
Cat Chess, developed by Capricia Labs and published by Capricia Productions, is built around a premise that is impossible to misunderstand: take one of the oldest and most respected strategy games in history and populate its board with cats. While that idea could have easily resulted in a forgettable novelty title, the game instead commits fully to its theme, presenting a digital chess experience that is equal parts tactical competition and feline entertainment. It doesn't attempt to alter the fundamental rules that have defined chess for centuries, choosing instead to enhance the experience with expressive visuals, playful animations, and a welcoming atmosphere that broadens its appeal beyond traditional board game enthusiasts. The game's biggest strength is its presentation. Every piece has been transformed into a cat-inspired counterpart, giving the battlefield a lively personality that immediately distinguishes it from standard chess simulators. The developers lean into the inherent humor of the concept, creating a world where strategic clashes are accompanied by charming feline antics. The environments are colorful and inviting, and the overall aesthetic feels tailored for players who appreciate cozy, family-friendly experiences. By wrapping classic gameplay in such an accessible package, Cat Chess succeeds in making an intimidating strategy game feel considerably less daunting for newcomers while still retaining enough authenticity to satisfy experienced players. According to its descriptions, Cat Chess supports both solo and multiplayer experiences, including local play options that encourage social interaction. This makes it particularly well-suited for households looking for a casual game night alternative. The inclusion of Steam Achievements and Family Sharing support demonstrates an understanding of the platform's ecosystem and adds extra value to the package. Rather than focusing on extensive progression systems or layered mechanics, the game keeps its priorities simple: provide a polished and enjoyable way to play chess while celebrating everyone's favorite internet animal. That straightforward approach works in its favor, as it avoids unnecessary complications and delivers exactly what its title promises. There is also something refreshing about the game's confidence in its concept. Many indie titles attempt to blend multiple genres or introduce increasingly complex mechanics to stand out in a crowded marketplace. Cat Chess takes the opposite approach by embracing simplicity. It recognizes that chess itself has already endured for hundreds of years because of its strategic brilliance. The developers wisely refrain from fixing what was never broken, instead concentrating their efforts on creating a memorable visual identity. As a result, each match feels familiar from a gameplay perspective while remaining distinctive thanks to the game's lighthearted tone. Of course, the game's appeal is closely tied to an appreciation for chess. Players seeking narrative content, unlockable campaigns, or extensive rule variations may find the experience somewhat limited. Cat Chess is unapologetically a digital adaptation of traditional chess, and its longevity will largely depend on a player's enjoyment of the core game. However, for those who already appreciate chess—or have been searching for a more approachable way to learn it—the title offers an enjoyable entry point. Its whimsical presentation helps remove some of the seriousness often associated with competitive chess, making it easier to pick up for players of all ages. In many ways, Cat Chess serves as a reminder that a good idea does not always need to be complicated. Combining cats with chess may sound like a joke at first, but the execution demonstrates genuine care and enthusiasm for both subjects. Capricia Labs has created a title that embraces its identity wholeheartedly, resulting in a product that is charming, accessible, and easy to recommend to its target audience. It may not redefine digital board games, but it succeeds in offering a delightful alternative to more conventional chess adaptations. Rating: 8/10
