Great short horror game, yet really well done. with good not-to-hard puzzles
The game touches on Filipino folklore, which is a criminally underused genre of horror - my mom was actually surprised to hear that someone actually made a game about the Tikbalang. The game itself is short and quick - it definitely has its "indie game jank," but it also has charm and heart. The puzzles aren't too challenging and the story is easy to follow and has some intrigue. As someone who isn't as connected to their Filipino roots as they'd want to be, this gives me something to look into. For $5, it's definitely worth the hour or so I played to finish it! Well done!

As a dad gamer and streamer, I’ve played a lot of horror games but Casa Caballero definitely took me for a rollercoaster ride! The atmosphere, the sound design, and those sudden jump scares? Man, they hit hard. It’s so intense that my wife literally slapped me out of shock during one of the scariest moments, that’s how immersive it gets! I really liked how the story slowly unfolds and keeps you guessing about what’s real and what’s not. The visuals and eerie details make it feel like you’re actually trapped in that haunted house. If I had one small dislike, it’s that a few areas could use smoother transitions or checkpoints but honestly, that just adds to the tension. Would I recommend it? Absolutely! If you’re into horror games that test your nerves and give you that adrenaline rush, Casa Caballero is a must-try. Just a warning, play with the lights off, but maybe not too close to your spouse. Good vibes only, fellow gamers!
Language: The audio and signage is in Tagalog The subtitles and all the documents are in English (if that's a setting I can't find it) Recommendations: I'd personally play it on easy because dying just resets you to the end of the battle and there isn't much reason to do that. Also don't worry about leaving items in rooms, you can only set stuff down somewhere if it's meant to be there (or isn't but because you missed a hint). Gameplay: I didn't keep exact count but there are about 3 puzzles. They're all pretty standard, not hard to miss, pretty linear. In the fights you basically run around until you're far enough away and shoot, nothing complicated, but the aiming is needlessly hard. I personally didn't enjoy them. Without giving anything away, I think the chicken level is something special. I personally haven't seen that kind of fight in a game. I'd love to see this implemented in a more complicated game. Aesthetics and Story: The assets are really nice, and if your computer can't handle them there are lots of toggle settings that I'm sure would help. The game is short so I wouldn't expect tones of world building but there's a decent amount of context and world building in the documents you find. The building assets were very purposefully chosen and placed. I didn't feel like I was just anywhere, I felt in a place, in a time. I think there's a little symbolic atmospheric choices that add some nice hidden context, (maybe not to people who know their mythology, but to me who only saw the page long book). Rating: It'd say it's A for effort game wise, but I don't play a lot of short-form indie horror. My only major complaints are that walking's too slow (but I hate slow walks and runs with a passion), and the inventory system is a little annoying, though not clunky enough to be game ruining.
Game was amazing had a lot of fun playing it!
Jogo muito loko!!!!! Façam mais :)
MABUHAY! Adored how charming this game was especially how it paid homage to Philippine mythology and it reminded me a lot of the newer Resident Evil games! Ganda ng atmosphere and it really captured the anxiety of always being watched. However it's not a perfect game and some bugs were present during my brief playthrough... PROS: - The atmosphere was nicely done - I appreciated the voice acting (could've had more in my opinion!) - The references to Filipino culture are on point - Short and sweet. I felt like if it was any longer it would have negatively impacted the player experience. CONS: - Overall felt a bit janky because of the enemy A.I. Most of the enemies got stuck on the environment during confrontations lol - Some animations could've been smoother - Too many chase scenes and underwhelming confrontations Overall, a step in the right direction. I'd love to see what you guys have to offer! :)
It's fine. Game is too dark though.
Very cool, short horror game. Having lived in the Philippines its great seeing more horror games coming out from the region. I was able to play it on the steam deck with some fiddling and a bit of stuttering, but I understand that it's hard for indie devs to test their games on every possible machine. Anyway, I recommend this game!
Awesome game! Bought it and had my friend play 3/4 of it for me while I watch. Hahaha. Graphics was really good but I think the devs could've made a more realistic plot. Like I think it's a major plot hole that the main guy would explore this haunted place alone and without a friend behind. But anyway, it was a good scare. Worth the price! We were halfway through the game before we even found out that there was a flashlight in the controls. All the while we thought my screen was just really dark, and I even thought that I probably missed the item (flashlight) somewhere and had to retrace every step back from the start.
