TLDR: + Good and pretty map, good car collection, great modification, detailed tuning, run pretty good on integrated graphics. - AI generated image and voice, unlicensed cars, frustratingly terrible AI racers, Drifty understeer handling without tuning your cars. It has a lot of potential, but i have a mix feeling about it, i hope they change it in the future. Long review: Positive: The map It feels like a mix between LA and Japan, pretty small, but packed with a really beautiful looking places with a really diverse area to drive through. It have so many touge with a lot of hairpins, a mountain road with curvy road everywhere, a looping highway crossing the whole map, a huge and colorful city with neon light on most building, a pretty long beachside road, and a speedway, but that come with DLC with half the game price. There's some collectible all over the map that you can find as you explored it. You can even increase the traffic setting to high to make the city more lively, just beware of the traffic jam that could happen since there's no working stoplight. There's a lot of gas station all over the map where you can fill your gas and changes your tires. also with the tuning shop to increase performance of your car and styling shop if you want to modify the car. Gameplay There's various club that you can join with 4 main race that you can do like sprint, circuit, Drift, and Gymkhana. You would need different vehicles for different clubs as they would race on different area like highway, city, or mountain. There's also leaderboard that reset every day where you can compete with other people. Also a minigame to deliver package or cars. Beside that, the freeroam feels really fun just driving around with high density traffic, avoiding it left and right on the highway like playing no hesi, or just drifting around the touge or racing through it like in Initial D. Cars Collection There's a lot of cars around 138 models resembling a real life car, but all of the pretty much are unlicensed that could be a negative point for most people, but i don't really mind it. Modification You can customize all of your car with aggressive body kit and spoiler that you can just mix and match, its just there's some parts that's locked to specific body kit to be changed. You can even modify the interior of the car like steering wheel, handbrake, shifter, and car seats. The livery maker is pretty good, but the control seems unnecessarily complicated. And i hate that when i make livery on the back of the car or on side of the car, it could also appear on the opposite side even though i don't mirror it. The quality of livery also drop when you scale it down making it appear pixelated. The livery maker also would lag your game if you tried to edit livery when there's already like 50 of layer of it on lower device. Tuning Beside upgrading your engine parts and suspension, you can also tune them to your liking. but its pretty detailed and might be overwhelming for beginner since you need to tune it correctly to make your racing enjoyable because the cars feels really like to slide. i just hope you can live tune them at the track like in the CarX Drift so we don't have to get in and out of the shop. Negative: AI Generated image and voice Every character on the game and their voice is generated with AI, its pretty obvious at the first glance. For most people, this would be a deal breaker and make the game feels really cheap. Unlicensed Cars Every cars in the game are unlicensed. Even though the car itself resemble the real life one, their emblem are absent on the car itself and the name of the car is just 3-4 letter abbreviation of the real cars. I just use livery on it to make the emblem on the car. Music is pretty meh, i just turn it off and use spotify. But it seems you can use custom music by putting an mp3 file in the game files. Difficulty ♥♥♥♥ the opponent AI, those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cheater, grifter, and rammer. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ head keep ramming into my cars as i tried to turn, and they have a lot of grip and weight to their cars. I hate them with passion that even playing dirty would be a fair play. it'd be no problem on the earlier games, but you'll feel it the most on the touge clubs, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ really bring a C3 class RX7 into C2 club race i had to lower my difficulty setting to easy. And the drift game mode is just impossible on hard difficulty, maybe its just my skill issue. Handling I have a love hate relationship with the handling, on one hand it feels really good to drift in this game, but i feels like the developer make the game with drift racing in mind rather than grip racing for this game. the car will always understeer or drifting around, there's no in between. I don't know if i just tune it wrong or drive it wrong or its the car itself that's wrong. Maybe some people already have a good tune for it to works, but the game would be pretty unplayable for people who doesn't want to touch the tuning part. Performance on PC Every time you drive through a new area or road, the game would freeze for a micro second before running again. and the first loading seems to take pretty long, maybe its just my device. At least it could run on my integrated Graphics Card on 768p resolution and got 45 fps average, playable enough for me. Playing on keyboard feels really bad, the game is unplayable with assist off, but the assist always steering me straight to guard rails. You'll experience it a lot when driving on touge.
