i have been in this game since before it was available on steam, and i have tried talking to the dev and giving him advice, but here we are. the overall gameplay is flawed, and based on draws, the winning player can either spam defenders, and never have core parts of their ship attacked, OR can spam boarding party, not letting the other player even develop a board state. there is very few opportunities for comebacks, and it's all based on draw. statlines are also completely out of whack. for example, Marine is a 1 mana 1/2. For the same mana cost, you can summon a 1 mana 1/1 that draws a card. this means cycling & card advantage is extremely easy to get, and if you get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on draw? you can not do ANYTHING until you draw turrets. all you can do is deny your opponent boardstate. what's that, you hit the max hand of 7? then you have soft locked the game the game looks absolutely atrocious, with what looks to be very very unfinished maps & uis, as well as cards having art ripped from game dev websites. any "original" art is just traced over by the dev. before patch 1.4.4(?), Marine was stolen art from Starship Troopers. this is NOT something that can be excused as "early access". what he's doing might not be illegal, but it's none of his own original work, essentially asset flipping. the search tool in the collection has never worked consistently. 33% of the time is a solid number i can give for the amount of times it actually works. Type "turret" in the search bar and only 1 card pops up despite there being NUMEROUS turrets. Also, cards have inconsistent use of their text boxes. Some cards use their text to describe that they do, or their effects, while others for some reason have random flavour text or "Card art by X". there is no consistency in this. Card unlocking has been one of the worst RNG systems since it was added before steam launch. You click a button, you get a card. Already have it? take a measly amount of energy in return. Play numerous games to work up to 100 Energy solely to get a dupe that refunds you 20-90 energy. And playing numerous games is an issue bcuz theres 1-4 active players at a time. Screw card unlocking though, as you can copy and paste deck files into your Captivus saves folder in order just take a deck, as there is no check to see if you actually own the cards. On August 26th 2017, the dev told me that the next major milestone is making an in-game tutorial. The game launched on October 3rd with no tutorial, besides a little "TUTORIAL" button in the top right of the main menu that you can click to open a web page that tries its best to tell you how to play. I don't think most new players even notice this button. There is a card called Armory in the game, which gives all units +1 attack while its in play. On August 8th, 2017, I reported that this card was not stacking its buff with other copies of Armory. He said to me, "It doesn't stack because of the way I programmed it, I can fix that." On August 19th, 2017, I again mentioned that Armory wasn't fixed, he made no mention of any changes. On August 21st, 2017, he then tells me that "no, armory shouldn't stack". I can only assume this was because he couldn't figure out how to fix it, and doubled down on its current function. On August 12th 2017, he told me "Early Access will go live on Christmas Day", and on September 23rd 2017 he changed it to October 3rd, and you can see the state it came out in. This is the result of rushing a product for the sake of... i dunno, really. Despite all these flaws, he desperately wants to get a competitive pre-season running & a tournament scene. And even after all of the things I mentioned here, the thing he's working on right now? Adding a singleplayer campaign. Note: pepsi boys comment was initially marked as "Abusive" for being the only negative review on here. I had to convince him to undo this.

holy HECK not only is the game already unbalanced as ♥♥♥♥ (epic turrets and defenders boys) but the UI is probably the worst thing ive ever ♥♥♥♥♥♥ seen what can attack what, where can i place these, why cant i attack this? who knows, certainly not me this game is clearly still in the prototype phase, wait about a year for him to flesh it out because currently, the game has no clear way to play it unless someone sits down and explains it to you, and right now unless you are friends with the dev (like the other reviewer looking @ his profile) you wont have any idea whats going on, nor will you want to learn.
Captivus, I liked it enough but at the moment it is very rough. It seems unique enough to stand on its own, if it gets continued development. If you are into card games I would say keep an eye on this one, to see how it turns out.

For a first title and Early Access, Captivus is worth the download. Pros -Great Depth in multiplayer -Unique Cards and Card Interactions -interact on your opponents turn with instant speed cards -Active Dev who has pushed close to 60 patches Cons -Poor Voice acting -Card art can look silly sometimes -Multiplayer matched hard to find, but that should change with more people playing

I've never really been on for card games, but I check this out. It's promising. Definately early access, but that's what early access is for - iterate on play, improve the experience, etc. If you can remember that going in, and like card games, you'll enjoy it.
