Plays great on deck, but controllers feel clunky and sometimes unresponsive, hope that improves soon. Nice atmosphere and design. Can recommend
Pruebalo y saca tus conclusiones.
Hey everyone here is my review for Candle Knight played only on my Steam Deck. Code provided by Publisher, Developer Dracma Studios @DracmaStudios Full review and fan art can be found on my blog www.garylodgegamesreview.game.blog Also have a 3 minute video on my YouTube Instagram TikTok all under grimreapersage PROS Story is fun and interesting. Enemies all have own attacks to learn to avoid and all have own look to them. Weapons and items all have own look to them and easy to understand as not to complex just straight upgrades. Ignis system is cool and unique as more you fight higher it goes meaning more damage you do but way more damage also taken cool risk reward system. Challenging game that doesn't hold your hand. Art style is pretty and very detailed. Puzzles in paintings is a cool system and is a fun different way to solve puzzles. World is fun and full of secrets to find and explore. CONS Combat feels clunky, slow to attack. Can be frustrating as easy to die in couple hits or from traps in the world. OVERALL SUMMARY I GIVE THIS GAME A SCORE OF 8/10 Overall has a cool story, puzzles are cool as solving them by jumping into paintings is different and fun and the Ignis system where you take more damage but do more damage is a interesting risk and reward system also has cool enemies and weapons, items. However combat feels clunky and slow to attack and can be frustrating as very easy to die from enemies and and attacks. SHORT PROS * Story is fun and interesting. * Enemies all have own attacks, look. * Weapons, items all have own look and easy to understand. * Ignis system is cool, unique as different levels that offer more damage but weaker. * Challenging game doesn't hold your hand. * Art style is cool and detailed. * Puzzles in paintings is different and fun is nice way to solve puzzles. * World is fun to explore find secrets. SHORT CONS * Combat feels clunky, slow to attack. * Can be frustrating as easy to die.
lindo jogo vale a pena jogar

A very strenuous recommendation. There's some effort put into this one, but it falls short in a number of ways. Sound effects are hit-and-miss on when they play, or what volume they play at. It looks very nice with the visuals it's aiming to offer, but suffers from the dissonance of a 3D world where you're locked to a 2D plane. Numerous times I found a gate that, were I not locked to a 2D plane, the li'l candle knight could just step around the gate to bypass it entirely. Some other regions weren't so bad for this, but it popped up often enough that I found it jarring. The opportunity to have multiple planes to travel across or different set-ups for traversal was very rarely used, the camera usually panning off in one direction to give a static field but that tended to be the most of what would happen. Music was not unpleasant - didn't blow my socks off but didn't make me reach for the mute key. The combat... is interesting. There's something there, the spark of something interesting, but it doesn't feel like it was well-implemented? Maintaining a sustained offensive fills up a Flame Gauge, and this allows you to move faster. It also increases your Attack at the cost of your Defence. If one chose to do so, they could basically hammer on an enemy and kill it in a second, but as a counterpoint, that same enemy could then chew your HP up in an instant with an uninterruptible multi-swing combo. You have a shield, but this is best used for projectiles - I found it rarely useful for handling melee strikes, as there was just as good a chance of the enemy just blasting past the shield without regard for what you wanted to happen. But then as you progress through the game, you gain abilities that use that Flame Gauge! One is there purely to burn off fuel - it's ostensibly meant to let you move slower, which might be useful in some case but it's only your character that moves slower. Then there's a fireball shot that gives some effective range if you can wrangle it, and an AoE burst that burns up a lot of fuel for a lot of damage, along with a forced-dive attack. These are effective for the final boss, both for maintaining your defensive capabilities, and to actually hit the stupid sod as it preps a bevy of bullets and lasers with which to pester you. The stakes for combat are also all over the place - there's the usual "corpse retrieval" thing that seems to be a thing with games of this genre, but you don't actually appear to lose anything? No money lost, no recovery vials? You get HP recovery on collecting it? It seems like a strange addition, all told. Movement is a weird one. Everything feels like it moves too fast on the vertical axis. You jump very quickly, fall very quickly, and coupled with the way the camera shuffles around, it can be difficult to keep a pin on where you are, unless you're being oh-so careful with your movement. There's no real sense of weight to movement, no acceleration or start-stop when you move. There's slower movement with the analogue stick (as this is your ONLY means of controlling the li'l spark), attacking in mid-air halts your falling until the swing is done, and the addition of a dash can help with horizontal motion, but compared to a number of games in this genre, you rarely want to be aerial in this game. The downsides outweigh the benefits too often. Finally, there's the story. I believe there was some on offer, but more in the sense of "bits and pieces of narrative with no real cohesive thread". The items you collect that appear in your inventory tell snippets of something, but it's a lot of what I would call "lore" than "story". History without real meaning as it doesn't really tie into anything in the present narrative. From what little turns up in the intro, you play the titular Candle Knight, and set out to fight the Moon. There's hints of something greater going on, but even with everything I could find, there's just nothing to really draw it all together. As such, whatever pathos the ending was meant to deliver just fell flat. This is not a long game - a few hours at the most, maybe a bit more if you scour for that 100% clear. Worth getting on a sale or in a bundle, A nice idea of a game protagonist buried under a flawed execution of the concept.
Joguei por pouco tempo, mas não foi o que esperava. Apesar do belíssimo gráfico de fundo, pelo tempo jogado, houve pouca ação.
Great first impression... and then nothing really progresses anymore. Additionally it's technically very unoptimized. The devs lost motivation pretty early.
