The multiplayer balance, dated graphics, and grenade-heavy campaign difficulty hold it back slightly. Despite those problems, it remains one of the darkest, most memorable, and most important Call of Duty games ever released.

Gra, wydana w 2008 roku przez Activision i stworzona przez Treyarch, przenosi graczy na fronty II wojny światowej – zarówno na Pacyfik, jak i do Europy Wschodniej. Największym atutem gry jest jej mroczny i brutalny klimat. Twórcy nie unikają przedstawiania okrucieństw wojny, dzięki czemu kampania fabularna jest bardziej realistyczna i emocjonująca niż w wielu innych strzelankach. Misje są zróżnicowane i pozwalają wcielić się zarówno w amerykańskiego żołnierza walczącego z siłami japońskimi, jak i radzieckiego żołnierza uczestniczącego w ofensywie przeciwko Niemcom. Rozgrywka jest dynamiczna i satysfakcjonująca. Broń została dobrze odwzorowana, a walki są intensywne. Gra oferuje także tryb współpracy oraz wieloosobowy, który przez długi czas cieszył się dużą popularnością. Dodatkowym atutem jest debiut kultowego trybu Zombie, który z czasem stał się jednym z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych elementów serii. Pod względem graficznym gra była bardzo imponująca w momencie premiery. Choć dziś widać upływ czasu, modele postaci, efekty eksplozji i udźwiękowienie nadal potrafią zrobić dobre wrażenie, pomimo tego, że ta gra ma już prawie 20 lat na karku. Ścieżka dźwiękowa skutecznie buduje napięcie i podkreśla dramatyzm wydarzeń. DLa mnie, mimo upływu tylu lat, jest to nadal najlepsza część serii Call of Duty, brutalna, bez niepotrzebnej cenzury po niemieckiej stronie, mająca mega mroczny klimat, w której lądując na Peleliu czujesz się niczym w Szeregowcu Ryanie, wychylisz się o milimetr zza zasłony i czeka Cie GAME OVER.
I like the game. I originally played it on the Xbox 360, but to be honest it has issues on PC. For some reason, it crashes a lot when you are playing campaign. Especially after cut scenes. it is fun, but just be aware that this is a video game that is approaching 20 years as of this review.
