About

Meike is the daughter of the noble von Essen family. Once one of the wealthiest families in Germany, the von Essen name has since been tarnished after a string of bad business decisions led them to financial ruin.
Desperate to be restored to their former wealth and glory, Meike’s parents try to marry their only daughter off to the self-made businessman Walter Gerhardt. Meike possesses no fond feelings towards Walter – she hardly knows the man – but her mother is determined to make the match work, and Meike can see no way out of her impending engagement.
Meike’s future as a wife to the cold, careless Walter seems set in stone – until the carriage bearing her and her family through the forest, to Walter’s home in Augsburg, is set upon by bandits.
Meike’s parents are killed, though Meike is able to escape alongside her faithful maid, Henrieke. The pair dash through the woods, searching for sanctuary – and in so doing they find an eerie, tumbledown castle hidden among the trees.
This castle, as Meike soon discovers, belongs to a young woman called Magdalena. Short of stature, with flowing fair hair, Magdalena looks like a sweet, innocent thing, but there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Magdalena is, in fact, a vampire – and now she has Meike in her clutches, it seems unlikely that Meike will ever be able to escape.

the sapphic yearning is immense
No Responsibility Review,
What follows is what I wrote as a review a year ago and I still stand by it. I almost got to the end and just abandoned it because i didnt personally like where it was going and what it was doing there at the end. One year later and one more hour left those feelings didnt change, The ending almost got me to avoid a negative review but it feels like the author just teases you for what you want to know. Either way, I read my review from almost a year ago and here it was written but never posted, the last hour did not change my mind. - Unfortunately, only the part you are here for would something I would qualify as good. The rest is filled with repetitive dialouge and questionable plot directions What you are here for could almost as well be served by looking at the provided pictures and engaging your imagination. The real problem I have is with the aformentioned repetitive dialouge. Not an example but here is how certain phrases would be repeated. "You are doing this" "Yes, because i did that" . "You did that" "Yes, because I am doing this". Variations that just repeat it almost verbatum. It stands out because as soon as it starts heating up between them it's like the writer suddenly started caring about their craft. 10/10. The problems I have with the story are mostly personal and the directions it chose to go in were not those that I would have prefered. One negative review said it was slow. What I would say to that is not much happens. More could have been on the page so to say. Some areas feel thin and not as fleshed out as they could have been. If you are here from the demo and has the beginning has not since been revised. I can say that it at least is the weakpoint in that regard of being slow. Another , and this just makes me laugth. Says it's "just a story" "no choices to make" "just reading" witch ironically they must not have done as it so clearly states that this is a kinetic story. If that was only what was written I might be compasionate but it then goes on to describe that it means that there are no choices to make. Perhaps they were led astray by the brilliant other steam users that tagged this story with "choose your own adventure" and "dating sim" tags. Fortunately those tags seem to have gotten removed. You do get a cute yuri vampire, pretty big plus. But as I said before, your imagination might serve you better if that's just what you are looking for.
Vampire fiction tends to evoke dark, grim narratives that suit the shadowy blood-drinkers they revolve around. Cage of Roses is no exception, at least in comparison to what I know of the developer's other work (for me, this is just Blackberry Honey), though it's not the kind of story that explores the depravity most vampires exhibit in horror settings. There's just enough bloodiness to paint the roses red, while not too much to detract from the budding romance between Mieke and Magdelena. The core narrative between the two women is charming enough, though I'm not sure I can say the same for the side characters. Too much time is spent away from the main women on subplots and characters that could really stand to have been pared down. I got this story for the yuri, and the subplots largely distract from that, which feels odd since the potential was still there with Henny and the other maid she befriends. That, and this wasn't a problem in Blackberry Honey, which had a supporting cast of several other sapphic relationships that kept the good lesbian soul alive even when the main couple faced their tribulations. Beyond that I felt distracted at times by the word choices, though not so much that it feels like more of a nitpick on my part. Overall, this proved a nice read with some good moments of heart and some dramatic twists that surprised me. I came in expecting (and hoping for) something darker, more on the horror end of things, though I can't say I regret the read. However, I do wish the side characters took up less of the writing. It would have been nice to have more scenes with Mieke and Magdelena leading up to the conclusion.
Loved it sooo much, thank you for creating this story ♥
Magdelena's exposition dumps (edit: plural) at the beginning of the game are one of the worst writing crimes I've read this year
Good story and great art
I really, really enjoyed this one. It has all the hallmarks of what I look for in a vampire romance: She's mysterious, well-dressed, gay, and lives in a big dilapidated manor. You get a good sense for how dangerous she can be, yet she still feels gentle towards the Meike. The characters have great depth, so even in Meike's situation you also have a hard time seeing Magdalena as a monster. There's a lot of great yearning between them and the payoff once their circumstances are changed is indescribably fulfilling and further characterizes everyone involved super well. This is going in the top of all the visual novels / kinetic novels I've ever played, I cannot recommend it enough!
the art is really gorjus like it is so castlevania / ayami kojima thing, and personally i'm a person who's like i think it is worth it solely buying for the art. i have said this to like multiple games. tho i read some reviews here saying the writing is lacking and i truly agree... it is saur lacking..... it also feels like therapy speaks sometimes.... like i know magdalena feels guilty but does it really have to be told to us the audiences constantly? i think the audience is not a fool? from the get go it is clear that these vampires are more on the kinder side. and that magdalena and meike like each other enough without explicit dialogue to initiate things by they own accord. i also feel some scenes are truly not necessary, like the henny scene with the maids and all. it was the one that make me hesitate to buy it until discount. i do enjoy the characters tho, i like meike/magdalena type of character. but honestly like i wish the writing is better because it would have really be banger if writing is good + gorjus art like that. i give it a recommend but perhaps on discount, and also if you really really like the art. if you're here for the writing, it is better to get other VNs.
