Chris Darril's Bye Sweet Carole by Chris Darril is another Chris Darril's attempt to make Chris Darril a brand name by putting Chris Darril in all the title cards and credits so you never forget this game is made by Chris Darril. However, what Chris Darril forgot with Remothered and with this game here, Chris Darril's Bye Sweet Carole by Chris Darril, is that you have to also design interesting gameplay in addition to putting Chris Darril everywhere. The gameplay, like Remothered is extremely shallow, surface level, clunky and to be blunt, boring. For Chris Darril, Gameplay always seems to be an afterthought to his visuals and stories. However, Chris Darril's stories by Chris Darril also tend to be extremely uninteresting. The animation is nice, but that is about the only positive I have come across so far. I didn't check, but I don't think the animation is by Chris Darril. Is it Chris Darril? Perhaps if Chris Darril wants to keep making games he should first make sure he creates interesting games worth playing before stamping Chris Darril all over them. I can't deny it's a really beautiful game. The art is so gorgeous and hand drawn, but that's where it ends for me. It feels like the game was not built with actual gameplay in mind. This experience is frustrating. The controls are so clunky, and the story was a bit empty. Which is truly unfortunate as I felt it had great potential. The game was sold as beautiful horror but it falls very short. Sadly I couldn't even finish it because of my frustrations in playing this title.
If you played anything of the "point and click" genre, without, you know, the point and clicking part, then you know what you're getting into with this game. I'd also like to note it's not as slow as some of those games in this genre. It's a very short game. I feel like i have to mention this right away since there seems to be a strange expectation in a lot of the negative reviews. Some of them had me incensed, like they expected a spiritual successor to bloodborne out of this game. I don't think it's worth $25 though. I got it 50% off which I think is fine. - The game is well done and presents itself well enough. The final chapters were definitely the stronger point of the story which I thought was nice. It's not difficult, puzzles and all. Clearing the achievements will most definitely be difficult if you want to complain about the game being too easy though I guess. - The controls are fine. There is a solid input and there is no lag I've experienced. It's very easy to make human error and die though, which makes a full survival run of this game very challenging and frustrating I'm sure. I guess if save scumming works there's that I guess. Overall I thought the game was done pretty well. Cutscenes do get grainy but I find it adds to the charm of an old school cartoon aesthetic personally. When it comes to the negative aspects of the game I think it's more about the art style and less of how the game functions. Controls are solid but admittedly when I noticed the neck discoloration for every character model.. and repeated eye blinking.. It's probably just me but I was irritated. Art style and preference is going to be different for everyone I suppose. I'd suggest looking at a video or something before getting this game if you're on the fence.
Let me keep this short: this game is beautiful and absolutely captures the Disney vibe. The art style is gorgeous, the music is fantastic, and the story is surprisingly solid. Unfortunately, the gameplay is a huge downside. It's honestly some of the worst gameplay I've experienced. For most of the game, you'll just be searching for items and using them in specific locations. Occasionally, you'll have to hide from stalkers, but once you understand their mechanics, they become incredibly easy to deal with and stop being interesting. The only gameplay sections I genuinely enjoyed were the occasional puzzles with Baesie. Overall, I can't really recommend this game. The presentation, music, and story are great, but the gameplay drags the entire experience down. I'd only suggest picking it up if you don't mind spending a lot of time on repetitive item-hunting and don't care much about gameplay.
The art is incredible, but I didnt like the controls and the polish of the game, indeed is a low cost game but wasn't I expecting
Don't get me wrong, this game is really beautiful but I feel that, for me, the ending fights felt very lackluster and not very enjoyable. I wish there was a bit more mechanics you had to do during it. The gameplay also felt a bit frustrating when I experienced some glitches, such as buttons not working and having to reload a checkpoint, or random scene glitches. Overall, I give this game a 5.5/10. I mean if you like old games or Disney, give this game a try when it's on sale.
Beautiful animation and it did have such a potential but ends up falling short. Controls are horrific, really clunky and frustrating. Gameplay gets boring and repetitive really quick and the story ain't interesting either. The Disney 2d style and animation shortcuts with Disney references are great, but that's about it. Also I am annoyed at how much Chris Darryl seems to want to make a name out of it, literally the only part of this game that isn't a bummer is the animation and he didn't do that part. Dude gives very strong' 'Joey Drew' vibes (from bendy and the ink machine.
