Good old classic.
Stará klasika, návrat do dětství. Původní dungeon jak má být ;-)
Brány Skeldalu is a classic fantasy role-playing game developed by Napoleon Games and published by Jindřich Skeldal that brings an old-school dungeon-crawling experience back into the spotlight for modern players. Originally released in the late 1990s and later reintroduced to a broader audience, the game represents a style of RPG design that values patience, exploration, and thoughtful progression over convenience and accessibility. Rather than adapting itself entirely to contemporary trends, it embraces traditional mechanics and creates an adventure that feels firmly rooted in the era of classic computer role-playing games. Set within the mystical land of Rovenland, the story centers around an approaching catastrophe connected to dangerous magical forces threatening the stability of the world. Five powerful mages attempt to open a forbidden gateway tied to mysterious dimensions and destructive power beyond human control. To prevent disaster, heroes are summoned to travel across dangerous territories, uncover hidden truths, and eventually confront the growing darkness before irreversible destruction consumes everything. The narrative structure follows familiar fantasy foundations while building atmosphere through exploration and discovery. Ancient ruins, forgotten locations, dangerous wilderness regions, and magical structures become central pieces of the adventure. Rather than delivering information constantly through cutscenes or lengthy exposition, Brány Skeldalu encourages players to experience the world directly through progression and exploration. One of the game's defining qualities is its commitment to classic dungeon-crawling mechanics. Exploration takes place through a grid-based movement system that emphasizes observation and methodical advancement. Every hallway, chamber, and hidden passage matters. Progress often depends less on speed and more on awareness. Players must pay attention to environmental details, search carefully for secrets, and learn how different systems interact. The dungeon design consistently reinforces that slower pacing. Dangerous encounters, environmental puzzles, and hidden traps encourage careful thinking rather than reckless movement. Exploration becomes rewarding because curiosity frequently leads toward useful discoveries or important progression opportunities. The game rarely provides excessive guidance, placing responsibility directly on players to learn, adapt, and overcome challenges independently. Party management introduces another important layer of depth. Players build and guide a group of adventurers whose strengths and weaknesses significantly influence combat performance and long-term survivability. Creating a balanced party becomes essential because success depends on far more than simply increasing numbers and equipment quality. Different roles complement one another, encouraging players to think carefully about how their team functions together. Combat embraces a turn-based structure that supports the game's slower and more tactical identity. Battles reward preparation and planning rather than pure aggression. Resource management matters during encounters. Ability selection influences outcomes significantly. Magic becomes particularly important, offering both offensive options and utility functions that support exploration and survival throughout the journey. Spell systems help strengthen strategic flexibility considerably. Players gain access to magical tools that influence combat while also expanding possibilities beyond direct confrontation. Certain situations reward creativity and experimentation rather than relying entirely on brute force. The balance between physical combat and magical utility contributes heavily to the overall depth of progression. World design remains one of Brány Skeldalu's strongest achievements. Rovenland feels ancient and mysterious in ways that strengthen immersion naturally. Frozen landscapes, volcanic environments, forgotten ruins, and dangerous underground locations provide environmental variety while maintaining a strong fantasy atmosphere. The world consistently encourages exploration by making discovery itself feel rewarding. Puzzle design also deserves recognition because challenges remain integrated naturally into progression rather than existing purely as obstacles. Solving environmental problems frequently requires observation and experimentation. The game trusts players to think critically and discover solutions independently rather than constantly providing direct answers. Visually, Brány Skeldalu proudly reflects its origins. The presentation embraces classic RPG design philosophy rather than modern graphical standards. Players familiar with older computer role-playing games will likely appreciate the nostalgic atmosphere, while newer audiences may require time to adjust to its more traditional presentation style. However, the visual identity contributes heavily toward preserving the game's distinctive personality. Difficulty becomes an important part of the overall experience. Brány Skeldalu does not aggressively simplify its systems or remove challenge for convenience. Progress often requires patience and persistence. Mistakes carry consequences. Learning mechanics gradually becomes part of the satisfaction rather than an obstacle to bypass. Players seeking highly streamlined progression or heavily guided experiences may initially find its structure demanding. However, those who appreciate classic role-playing games and methodical dungeon exploration will likely discover significant depth beneath its traditional systems. Napoleon Games delivers an experience that succeeds because it remains confident in its identity. Brány Skeldalu does not attempt to imitate modern design trends. Instead, it preserves a style of RPG adventure built around exploration, challenge, and discovery. The result is a fantasy journey that rewards patience while offering a meaningful look at an earlier generation of role-playing game design. Rating: 7/10
back to the childhood :-) Amazing dungeon crawler. As the game is hand painted, it is still very enjoyable and nice even today.
Bon jeu de RPG à l'ancienne !
Very fun blobber (turn based, grid based), with an interesting gimmick of being able to split the party into 2 or more blobs to solve puzzles and strategically win fights. Recommended if you're looking for a classic crawler. Quite a few challenging puzzles too, but you can get some help from the steam guides. I explored every nook and cranny in 30 hours.
Old school classic issometric dungeon crawl with great story and fun play -yes old and some clunky mechanic and basicly only 3ways to set up party but still funn
круто как и фильмы чешские, за лвл земного мага ваще 10
My childhood classic. Can't give thumbs down on this one. The game doesn't really hold your hand or tell you what to do except for clues that you can collect by reading clues in the world and text carefully. I spent way too many of my childhood computer time on this one, and it's one of the first games I ever finished. Fun thing is after all these years I still remember the exact paths in Caredbar to get from one merchant to the next. When creating characters, you can drag the golden ball on the screen to favour some stats over others. Save often and don't overwrite. Be sure to use the "True Sight" and "Automapping" combo to find hidden paths. Characters can hold two weapons at once, giving them two swings and effectively doubling their actions. Don't spend stat points until you trained your characters to have 30 at the trainers in town (You can easily clear Orc Caves without spending stats and save up). You can train "Basic training" for 20 in all skills except magic and then specialize train at the combat trainer up to 30. Make sure to separate your group in difficult situations (you can also do this outside of combat to solve puzzles by ctrl clicking the characters).
