Bomber 3

This old game is wonderful, read the instructions on how to play and its a great experience - alot of nice little details in there. Sure its old graphics, but they look great and the audio is amazing. Quite a challenge too - you really have to pay attention to get the bombing run right and also manage the effects of damage like fuel leaks from flak etc my only wonder is whether it is all running a bit too fast as the opportunity to actually fire the guns on enemy fights flashes by very quickly

I never thought I'd get to play this game again, as I had the original back in the day. Great to be able to run it on modern machines. It's still as good today as it was back then. This got me into the B17 series later on when they were released. I know some people don't like the look and feel of this game, but this is what we had back then, and the gameplay still holds up now. Good job Microprose!

I feel like this modern port has some little bugs and other weird glitches the original I played when I was young did not, but overall... Yeah, this is Bomber 3! Now my girlfriend can finally experience for herself the reason I always say 'Flak ahead, pilot' when something is about to go wrong X'D And THAT... is *priceless*. UPDATE, 9/12/24: After spending more time with it, I can say quite conclusively that this is NOT the game it was on Mac back in the day. Microprose (or at least this modern version of the company) did... a rather slipshod job porting it, quite honestly - Sound problems galore, I couldn't plot my own route to a target once I reached the rank of Major (could REALLY use that!), kills don't get counted to the right gunners (if at all), and even more issues I can't remember off the top of my head. This game is a cherished childhood memory, and although just having access to this game again in SOME form is welcome, I admit, the bugs *they introduced* when they ported it to more modern machines are not, nor is the apparent complete lack of interest by Microprose in fixing any more of the outstanding bugs. I guess one patch is all we get... *shrug* I guess the bottom line is that this is another game that's at least worth it on sale, but... just don't expect a bunch. Don't even expect something that truly lives up to the game it was literally ported DIRECTLY from, apparently -_- You had a great foundation, Microprose, but concerning your 'follow-through', all I have left to say is: 'You blew it, Skipper.'

Want to love this, but it's a mess. I played the original back in the day, so learning the controls and everything wasn't a problem for me, but there's little in the way of instructions and it's not particularly intuitive if you don't already know what you're doing. The issue is that a lot of stuff just doesn't work. There are broken audio files (gunners repeat their incoming fighter reports on a loop until you jump screens, bombing audio hangs frequently, bearings from the command pilot don't come through all the way), bugs with functions (fighter kills seem hit or miss and don't track on your log book, damage doesn't accumulate consistently, especially from enemy fighters, gunners sometimes auto-fire when you jump to their position), and -- most significantly -- when you hit 25 missions, you just start over with a new crew and blank log book. Fun for nostalgia, but the issues make playthrough (and especially replay) pretty rough.

Just for nostalgia

I recommend Bomber III, It's actually a good game and as described on Steam, you know what to expect knowing that it was realised in 1989. I like its missions that don't take a lot of time and the rewards you can get in the game. I advise you to read the manual well to really enjoy the game. I only play the game on Steam Deck and it runs properly.

I loved this game when it came out and I still love it. I wish we could get M4 and Battle of Britain too, I miss Deadly Games and Rene Vidmer.

This is a unique game from the early 1990's. Apparently it was originally a Macintosh program, built with hypercard. Pretty incredible that the creators did what they did with such a simple application. This is not a flight simulator. This is not B-17 Flying Fortress, this is not B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty Eighth, this is also not The Mighty Eighth: Redux. This is simply an almost 40-year-old-game repackaged and made to work on modern systems. The graphics are from 1990 (and look pretty good, considering). The game is twitchy and sometimes the sounds glitch. It's still fun. Enjoy it for what it is. Or, don't. Nobody is forcing you to buy it with your hard-earned money. There is a small write-up on how to operate the controls and make the airplane behave. It plays a little like an RPG. Create a character, go on a mission, bomb your target and try to make it home. Then you do it 24 more times. Someone complained they didn't get a cookie for completing their tour. Well... consider that realism, I guess. Bomber 3 is fun little piece of nostalgia. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it, as long as you read the instructions. Great for history buffs, war gamers, and flight-sim enthusiasts (even if it really isn't a flight sim.)
